200,000-215,000 taken and how many mature deer pics are posted here? Hmmm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Where the data is lacking is density. Hunter density and deer density relative to the state land, or even private for that matter. As for the length of season; If over 60% of the overall harvest is the first weekend of gun in the SZ with 85 percent is in the first 10 days; why is it 3+ weeks long? Who is not a meat hunter? So sick of that rhetoric. If you don't like venison or have a designation for it you're a POS w killing tendencies. You lack self control- not protein. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's more like the cruise ship you described with the DEC selling all the passengers on board that they are lucky enough to see their new up close and personally designed water interaction attraction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you guys worry at all about bumping the bucks that haven't dropped to a new bedding location? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Having a number of gsp s and a gwp, as well as a bunch of other pointer work; Im in some disagreement. Some dogs have drive and instinct far beyond others. My last gsp male was teaching himself better than I could. I would say they tend to be needier dogs though. Each has its own personality and you should definitely factor in all the nonhunting time and your hunting desires in depth before ever looking at one. Hunt behind the parents as well. Had a 19ft deep v sylvan and hunted Ontario primary. Some bays and some lake- long line dekes. Tons of fun. Tons of work and chit will go wrong- bank on it. The crazier it is to be out there; the better the hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My guess is anyone who is posting the question the on killing great bucks in Ohio public on the HuntingNY forum is going to struggle with relationship of expectations versus reality anywhere/everywhere Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

The plan was made to be and simply say "we gave you a chance"- so here comes the ML in 18. Look at the youth season, the antlerless only you mentioned, crossbows.... whether you like these or not doesn't matter. The DEC said here you go- deal with it. Most hunters in ny know nothing more than NYON tells them... and the state prays on that. The initiative has never changed- minimize deer-human negative interactions. Traffic being the foremost leader. This correlates to the most private land and highest traffic volume upstate having the excess number of does. They lie- and most take their medicine and get back in line for the next serving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No respect for the animal is needed, not enough effort and selfcontrol for a good shot, hitting every organ is far more effective than 1 or 2, ass shooting is God's gift to prayers, anything is fine with a rest and little bucks and poor shots are legal so no opinions are allowed beyond the taunting poster..... what a think tank! This deserves an entire chapter in HNY forums book and a sticky. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gun season anywhere is full of gun hunters and if you think Ohio is going to be much different than here it's likely going to break your heart. Unless you want to pack way the f back in on huge ground- you'll just see your neighbors and piles of corn all over down there. Impatience will lead to drives in the first hour. Brush up on your Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish bartering skills as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What is one good reason we need full inclusion beyond your own selfish motives? Why should crossbows be an option if you're physically capable of using a bow? Would you be as adamant if it was a one buck rule? So how do you feel about more crossbow but at the cost of less gun season? Why is anyone who loves archery automatically part of NYB or an elitist? Why should she determine when you can use a weapon like a crossbow? Typical fist pumping close mindedness of a HuntingNY thread - so why not throw it back? Bottom line is this place is filled with salty dogs who can't stand anything that could benefit their likelihood to kill deer easily after 40 years of doing it their way slip through their fingers. You've only thought about yourselves the whole journey- give it a rest and exit stage right. Let someone else have a chance They earned to do it their way and better. Is is legal to tag a dead deer and let it rot as well but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. A genuine apology to anyone who has physical restraint that would not allow the use of a vertical bow but would a crossbow. As for the remainder- yup; lazy. Elitist? Nope. Try archery, then bow hunting and then deal with the tribes of NY gun hunters that want more time trashing the woods. You'll get it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Minox are another that use Schott glass (German co that make Swavo, etc). Sightron has some great Japanese glass. Lots of options and cult followings...but go model specific reviews versus brands actually. Cameralandny, opticsplanet and Natchez all have great scope deals. Good luck. Spend more on the glass than the gun and you'll never regret it Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If any one had he unfortunate pleasure of hearing MrHurst our lead big game biologist speak down to us at a deer meeting last yr you may have noted his protection of coyote statements (aka excuses). They're fawn killing machines with a national average taking 50% of the fawn crop. Everything has a good side and yotes do please the DEC for their attrition imposed- but they're masters of dropping enough offspring to maximize carrying capacity and are savage efficient game killers. They're also a bizatch to kill. The fact we can't really hunt or trap them 3/4s of the year (factoring in deer season considerations and trapping ending earlier than any other state....mind you many don't even have seasons on them)- they have a given advantage. Few good vids on YouTube. Stick to the eastern ones. Like any hunting- more prep and hunting the right spots and conditions is how to make it look easy. Attention to detail is key. If mature deer aren't your thing- coyotes won't be either Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

280 is a great round and wish I never sold my m77 (in 280) to a friend. Very popular elk round out west. As to ammo cost, availability and barrel heat- it is a hunting rifle and unless you shoot often over the summer; such concern doesn't carry water. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Deers shot during gun season:fields or hardwoods
gjs4 replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Deer Hunting
101 Deer bed in thick Deer feed on greens when it's warm and grains when it's cold and browse/mast as they pass it Deer get killed in field by tv folks, gun hunters and lucky or smart bowhunters. Scout more- wonder less. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Couldn't imagine what we would have as a state (re: bucks) if everyone passed them at 1&2 ...... Let alone knowing 5 is about topped out rack wise. Congrats and good luck Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
