  1. it's not but i've used both. one piece up and over. then a second piece goes around the tag ends but only halfway around the barrel. they sell barrel cots but i feel tape works just as well and it's cheaper. haven't noticed any different with POI or accuracy from my TC ProHunter
  2. i thought about doing this with the things i'm involved in. likely could work under one of our QDMA branch officers that's an instructor for Warren county or a couple other friends that are instructors for Rensselaer county. I've "helped" during classes before multiple times. the biggest complaint i hear from ALL of them is that by the time you get the mandatory safety content and position statements from the state in there's very little time to introduce more material, discussion, or elaborate on anything.
  3. in that case i'm sure jason would prefer that you only hunt in their immediate area. if you can keep one of them in your coat for the recovery even better.
  4. i disagree those little tick hoover vacs can do what they do. you won't see me befriending them like a disney character any time soon but yea.
  5. that might be something to try. i know winter rye cover crop gets hammered in it's early stages. as long as it doesn't crowd out the beans. now that we have no cows on the farm red clover could be an option. lost a lot to bloat when seeded a pasture down with it.
  6. at my old house i owned a creek bottom of several acres that funneled right into a 10+ acre corn field on the neighbors. had cams watching that sanctuary plot right in the middle of it all. it deer literally walked through it head up until real late in the season. then it was standing room only until it was gone with nothing left just after the season. that was antler king honey hole.
  7. never made it outside the office without having a desire to drive away real fast and keep going. never hunted 4J this year so two 4J DMPs up for grabs to go with TF's tags.
  8. hard for me to say because i haven't tried them both together like Bob and Brian. Planting them separately I feel like soybeans would be preferred. i would think it might lessen the browsing pressure though. @Culvercreek hunt club and @moog5050 did one get more pressure than the other when you planted both together? what happened?
  9. i should've done this i planted about an acre i got germination and plants starting to grow but deer nipped them off to stubs. as you said no leaves, no chance.
  10. i'm not screwing it up i think there's a spinning reel for that same line. my FIL swears by both the rod and reel.
  11. i don't think it does. the process just has to start over again. what would concern me is if the temps in his shed got higher than 38 degrees. even if it's not all bad bacteria can form on the outside of the meat. i assume it's dry so i wouldn't rinse it or anything to reintroduce moisture.
  12. if my schedule was free i'd go but it's most definitely not. to be open and honest i've only talked to DEC and others about it but haven't hunted it. if you hunt smart you can use the pressure to your advantage. i and others i know have done it countless times on public land. pressure like opening day chaos can make movement and hunting killer if done right. most don't get any deer but i know one hunter took 10 deer during the special season. bow only wouldn't deter me at all. if anything that helps reduce pressure in a spot with adjacent gun pressure. it's close to the same here in 4J Albany. there's just not an extended season. why not extend your season?
  13. society in today's world just makes you shake your head and want to wake up from a bad dream. things like this give hope. you're doing it right. way to go Sam!
  14. marketing and to keep people from switching. it looks like a perk to keep a policy. ...my assumption anyway.
  15. I saw that one and the 15200 altitude that is stripped with almost nothing for scales. Like both in orange. Also like gripping machine into spine up toward tip. When gutting I put my index finger goes there to zip open intestinal cavity without hitting stomach or anything else. Also when reaching up to cut free trachea, esophagus, lungs, and heart. Have better sense of where the knife tip is in proximity to your other hand grabbing the stuff. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. took a look at the jawbone from Steve's doe last posted. she was not going down hill, but definitely beyond mature. seemed to be 8.5+ yrs old.
  17. cool set of shots. only gotten single bucks chasing. never more than one chasing in photos.
  18. season never ends here. got to compile and log all the data for deer taken on our qdm co-op. send in dmap harvest report to DEC. Scout public land for next year. take down some stands to look over. etc. etc. i'm not sure if my season started yet or isn't over. definitely didn't hunt most as much of it as i'd like. lol
  19. you can't be old then. my parent's called it the day after thanksgiving and went down to florida vacation home. it's tough for them flying back for the holidays. they're hoping the snow out this way stops what it's doing.
  20. same here i'll keep you in mind if i see one. Prohunter barrels and accessories seem to be kicking around less and less.
  21. i've done the way Nomad suggested with wrap and rope. cut the angle right so the antlers tip forward off the plaque base. i just used bought pre-wrapped foam that goes over it like a cap. less time consuming then making a wood base to go under the skull cap. one was even a textured rubber. hide wrapped wood and skull cap is the way to go though. less delicate and easier to clean.
  22. if you can plug something in and walk away then have it. i can't so i just use a large desiccant cansister and a plug-in to recharge Remington desiccant one. The canister you have to put in the oven and is a pain but don't do that maybe once a year. the plugin to recharge one keeps up in my 24 gun safe just fine.
  23. Took some pictures just now. Sandable putty, screws, and white enamel paint. It wasnt that bad. Dried out and cracked a bit a decade later. Easy fix though if I was to display it. Wasnt big enough for a shoulder mount in my mind though. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
