  1. welcome.. i also hunt the areas you do (8H) and look forward to passing info back and forth... unfortunately 2-3 year old deer at 120-135" are definite shooters, at least to other hunters in the county.. but i fully respect your decision and think it's great the neighbors also let the deer age as well where you are... i have all my tags so far as i've passed on younger deer so i cannot be too critical. last year i was fortunate to take a 4.5/5.5 year old (according to the taxi) 138" 9 point. IMO deer don't have a lot of hiding spots around here and most often will get shot young or get hit on the highways... good luck
  2. my cams had bucks cruising real hard between 10/30-11/6 and then things seemed to slow down.. during some late bow sits i saw a couple does getting chased but i think the others got bred early. scrapes went cold the last week of bow. if that's the case the late rut/2nd rut should be around mid to late gun.. right? last year's 2nd rut IMO was more intense than the 1st...
  3. Awesome deer.. Usually see deer like this in full body taxi on display at the local Cabela's lol
  4. Big buck. Looks closer to 160+. I have a 141" 11 pointer on the wall and this buck dwarfs mine in terms of mass and width and length. Anyone agree?
  5. if it hit bone it will sublux, dislocate, and shatter into the spinal cord.. if this happens the trauma will cause the nervous system to shut down major organs such as the diaphragm first.. if it hit blood vessels such as a carotid arteries or jugular or brachiocephalic veins depending on the angle etc the deer probably died from hypovolemic shock... yes i am a doctor and i have shot deer in the neck it's usually lights out with my 30-06... lol
  6. never hunted public land but the guy also needs to understand its much easier to move a ground blind than it is a treestand when the sun is coming up in a few minutes.. so to be fair there should have been some sort of compromise because after all it is public land.. he has no right to tell people what to do or to use intimidation. not to mention he likely knew he may encounter you so he brought his friend along for more manpower i'm thinking
  7. Cabelas silent suede are nice and inexpensive. Cabelas Wooltimate are even nicer but pricier. And I'll wear a muff with hand warmers incase i get a little colder than anticipated
  8. Interesting... I live in Brighton and bow hunt 5 private acres and some family and friends during gun. Wouldn't mind trying this public area during bow.. You wont find me joining the orange army however lol
  9. Interesting stuff here... My roommate is an anatomist does cadaver dissection has 2 doctorates I will show him when I see him and see what he says..
  10. Had 7 doe at 15 yds and they all kept looking behind them.. Well no buck as our regulars have magically disappeared. Next weekend the doe aren't getting a pass!!! Good luck everybody
  11. Moho great buck!!! What a slammer.. Crossed a swamp and pipeline to get to my stand this morning and my cousin said an 8 pointer ran across his driveway at 7am while he was pulling out for work.. And i was 500 yds back in his woods lol....That's hunting.. Good luck all going out in he morning.. shoot straight...
  12. Enough coffee.. Dunkin donuts white styrofoam blended well with the snow but did not keep my coffee warm at all out there
  13. Good luck all shoot straight. Tons of fresh tracks on the way to my stand. Warmer and windier than expected. First shot 642
  14. Had a buck chasing does in the swamp behind my office building today around noon. Like someone else said a hot doe will move them and if they don't move in the morning I will plan on getting back in the woods around noon...
  15. Wake up 445.. Start walking to stand at 6. Gonna hang up some antler ice estrous as i had a buck chasing some does outside of my office building today lol.. Game on
  16. Crazy big buck but I'm kind of put off by the gofundme. Knowing the publicity he is getting I bet he will do the full body taxi and then take $25k from the local Scheels.. I've heard impressive shoulder mounts can be worth like $5-10k to a sporting goods store... So why is he taking people's money lol
  17. No snow camo as I usually make sure I have a dark backdrop anyway to break up my outline like some thick brush or a natural ground blind..
  18. Pretty pumped as i have 3 bedding areas in sight and can see a couple hundred yards in every direction from a stand i put on my cousin's ridge.. Had deer out of xbow range there last weekend including a nice 2.5 year old 8 pointer. Also excited my rifle is finally sighted in.. Good luck all
  19. Cabela's has higher end ones with steel and not plastic components just check out reviews.. we have a cabela's brand it's works well
  20. what a buck!!! very sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing your story with us..
  21. i use aerosol spray near roundabout trails where deer would normally stand there and pick up on my boot scent. i use antler ice around my stand hanging on wicks but only in November and i'm not really convined yet it actually works... i do find it most important to see if your scent is rising up, getting knocked down, traveling or following across a ridge, etc.. that determines what i do or where i sit
  22. DEC website says decoys and electronic calls are legal to use deer hunting. I use an app for an estrous doe bleat however prefer to rattle and grunt myself. is there a possibility another hunting is grunting at you? lol
  23. i would.. might be a young buck in the area picking up your scent but also curious about the Tinks.. you'd be surprised how long a deer could stand there frozen like a statue waiting for you to make a move lol
