LET EM GROW replied to ApexerER's topic in Deer Hunting
Speaking of "this", My fiance mentioned to me last weekend before we went out one evening, that she was hoping "her time" (being last weekend).... would hopefully work in favor, when it came to the bucks nose... Didnt get work for her haha! -

I watched 9 does/ button bucks feed for 2 hrs last night,4-6pm.. back and forth between my secret spot plot w turnips mix and the corn that it borders ... all within 30 yards of me the whole time.. i wasn't going to shoot any of them since doe numbers are "low" here in 8P and i was waiting on a good buck anyways but when zero bucks showed and the does stuck around until before climb down time, i figured id rather spook them by shooting one of them, than spooking them off myself.. it worked lol doe tag filled To top it off i waited for her to get in front of my browning trail cam before taking her.. hopefully got a couple good pics on there! Ill check it tonight -
Im Not an expert on bison and or arrow weight, but i don't think i would try an archery harvest on a 1400lb animal with what your setup is, for an ethical clean kill.. unless maybe you can quick pick up and dial in a much heavier shaft and broad head plus more draw weight to be safe..

Hope the ground blinds dont blow away.. think i may be running out to check them before they are gone.

Todd at Guerinteed Archery in Marion, NY is a great friend of mine, very friendly, great guy and a ball breaker at the same time. This year he is at the shop more.. weekly hours are 4-8pm due to his full time job. Saturday 12-4.. He does have the guide service, but doesn't have the help at the shop this year like he has in years prior.. so he is there more, especially for the big buck contest to measure up the bone.. Mike Price is good, at Heritage in Phelps, NY There's a shop in Williamson as well, been awhile though.. cant remember the name maybe Archery Solutions or something of the sort.. Nice shop in Prattsburgh on Rt 53 too but that's a drive

nuisance permits and posted property
LET EM GROW replied to Critter4321's topic in General Chit Chat
We had this problem ourselves about 8 years back in 8P, before the farmer ended leasing his thousand acres out to a group of guys. Wished i had got to it before them. Any who, the DEC did nothing about it, no matter how many calls or emails and letters were sent. They would leave them in piles, bucks and does just to rot. Luckily for us the land was leased out.. I talked to a friend over summer who owns an apple farm and hunts it as well, We talked about nuisance permits and he had stated that if they get the permits for their property and do not let someone hunt that land during deer season, it is against the law. Saying that's why they do not apply for nuisance permits so they can still deny hunting permission besides family and friends. He mentioned that he has to let someone or a group hunt that land, but once vacated he is legal... its the first Ive heard of this. Just curious has anyone ever heard or witnessed this? I may have worded it incorrectly, been a few months lol -
Yep, ive got 3 stands on ridges and or funnels that i keep out from until the rut starts to show itself..

That pic was from a few years ago, As a matter of fact, That deer was THE MOST pattern able deer ive ever seen in my life. Long story short, @ 4.5 yrs, no shot at him with bow, always brush between us, i shot at him last day of gun season with the smoke pole (within bow range), grazed his belly after the bullet blew a branch apart... He lived, just a scratch(look close at his belly in the trail cam picture).. The next year he was even more pattern able then before and of course bigger, but before i could even hunt him the neighbor gut shot him and never tracked him for anymore than a couple hundred yards.. (still furiates me to this day)... found him dead in a creek about 1/4 mile away Plant them some apples, i would think the species would matter to deer, my trees have hundreds if not thousand some apples on them every year if mother nature cooperates.. Buck Netted 157" @ 5.5 yrs old -
Crab trees

Apples galore, I have green and red apples the size of baseballs. Also, many of what I call crab apples, green in color and between the size of a golf ball and baseball.. Ive eaten them all, the smaller ones, not near as good as the bogger ones. But the deer seem to eat the smaller crab apples first.. bigger apples after they rot during winter.. i do not know why. Ive got a camera set on a post of my back porch at camp pointing under a very old littered crab apple tree and it takes about 100 pics every 3 days... bucks & does, big and small, you name it. They even eat the apples laying against the house.. Must not be too nervous haha. -
They are pretty thick at our place in Steuben this year... A buck my buddy shot Monday was covered up in them, which is normal for here every year, but that buck was literally covered in them.. That seresto collar works great on our dogs!

LET EM GROW replied to 45/70's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
My first gun harvest i was 16 yrs old, with a new 12 ga mossberg 500, iron sights, 2-3/4" winchester super x hollow points .. Got two shots off, stalked up on a doe to 35 yards, she was bedded, shot, missed clean, followed her tracks got on her again at a bit later @ 75 yards and dropped her.I was stoked! I still have the slug that was sticking out her far shoulder.. -
Ok I give in, here it is...

8P, very slow, the usual scrapes have been worked a time or two at most, few rubs. Only doe sightings.so far, just pigging out. all throughout the day.. cams are not showing much for buck movement right now

I have crab apples all over our place in Steuben..not sure of the species... but the deer eat them as soon as they fall, and will eat the rotted/missed ones come winter...awesome early season setup! Id purchase some, and will be next year. -
How Many 5.5 Year Old Bucks Have You Killed? (and older)
LET EM GROW replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Deer Hunting
Only 1 buck for me that has been dec aged at 5.5yrs 9 pt, 126" gross, 209# dressed -
I picked up 2 packs of tracers like 5-6 years ago. They all work perfectly fine and fly great still. Even after going through many of rib cages. They have never let me down once, on the range or in the field.. The new tracers are junk, bought 2 packs for my fiance, none of them worked like they were supposed too.. i think the magnet is to weak.. compared to the older style.. no the magnet doesn't make it fly any different compared to a regular nock.. She now shoots nocturnals and they have yet to fail as well! I bought the firenocks as well, they worked great, but i gave them to a friend who wanted to join the lighted knock crowd.... (he gave some of his time to help me get caught up on some work and wouldn't take any cash..) He loves them!

Nice buck congrats!!! cant wait to see the video. I have ate my buck tag 4 years now from being to picky, but i would have harvested this too, not often you get a 4pt that big! awesome.

I USE THE HSS BOWHUNTER SERIES, AND I LOVE IT... IT DOES TEND TO GET IN THE WAY IF YOU WEAR IT ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR JACKET. I JUST WEAR IT UNDER MY JACKET AND IT WORKS FINE.
