  1. You'd think a big old buck like that would be mostly nocturnal so I'm guessing this spot doesn't see a lot of pressure and he felt safe. But there always seems to be a few days each year where the big ones just can't fight the urge to roam around show off their dominance.
  2. My sister sent me this video link of the Benedict Buck. The photographer was able to get some footage of this giant roaming around. https://www.facebook.com/kevinkeenanphotography/videos/vb.584029611723056/795639320562083/?type=2&theater
  3. I think most bucks still have their antlers attached and I've seen some carry them into March or later. I do most of my shed hunting in March and April.
  4. I book in advance to get a good quiet site on the water in the Saranac Wilderness Area.......where I can launch my canoe before sunrise and head out to fish all morning. I do that for a week every summer and really look forward to it.
  5. We have about 2 inches here in Livingston County with light flurries falling. A great time to scout new territory and look at deer tracks.
  6. That doesn't sound like fun! Hope you're feeling better soon and don't get one again.
  7. Not much would change in my mind other than I wouldn't be expecting a 140" buck to pop out at any time when I'm on stand. I really enjoy my venison, perusing deer in general, hunting with good friends and just being out in the woods during deer season, so my passion and desire to hunt wouldn't diminish a bit.
  8. I saw it this past weekend. It was really good, intense. People were just tougher than nails back then. I'm not sure what I'd rate it because I always have a problem with how things are portrayed that just could not be true. I won't give examples because I don't want to spoil anything. But I'd recommend seeing it on the big screen if you can.
  9. Great story of and picture of a hunt in 1929! They sure had a successful hunt. It makes me wonder how far they had to drag some of those deer.
  10. I scout year round and take notes on all hunts and keep them in a notebook. I also will write myself an e-mail while on stand of thoughts and ideas about the area I'm hunting. I mainly hunt public land so it's a constant challenge to have good stand locations.
  11. It's nice to see them walking around during daylight, and they will be beauties next fall.
  12. They could be a couple, mating season is beginning. Nice picture!
  13. Besides hunting: I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, canoe trips. I also play some acoustic guitar and like to ride my motorcycle. I like my wood working projects and make bird houses and feeders which I sell locally. I have to add that I really enjoy the challenge of placing trail cameras out to capture wildlife photos of the seldom seen creatures like black bear, bobcat, bald eagles, beaver, coyote, fox, and fishers. I am building a nice collection of photos.
  14. Sick and twisted is about right. Last fall, the night before bow I heard someone shooting at night, first a ways off, then 1/4 mile up the road. They were riding around shooting. I didn't think too much of it until I saw a dead deer in the field a few days later. I walked out to look and it had a bullet hole in the neck. Called the DEC, they could do nothing they said. Made me sick to know someone around here is shooting deer at night, for no other reason than to kill....from what it appears.
  15. I lost my main set of keys this past fall. (Truck w house keys) I searched high and low for them and figured they were gone for good. A few weeks went by and I went to set up a tree stand, opened my can of "stand keys" to find my truck keys on top of the pile.
  16. I've had good luck with Moultrie, Bushnell and Spypoint. All the Moultrie's have been good and I'd like to get another Bushnell for the video quality.
  17. I'll watch it to see how the players react to being out of the playoffs, see how much heart they have and watching Tyrod Taylor is always fun. I hope he keeps getting better. They need some players to step up and be leaders and pull it together or not much will change next year.
  18. To all huntingny members and your families. Merry Christmas!!!
  19. Some of the biggest bucks and wisest old does hide in thickets within 100 feet of a house where no one bothers them. This year alone I've seen where 140" class bucks were doing this. And here I am walking 2 miles down into the park to find them.
  20. The squirrel population here has to be at an all time high. I can't imagine having a hard time going out and getting a limit of squirrel.
  21. I did catch that on your original post. Not much worse than going to your stand or to get a trail cam and find it's gone, stolen. I would say it's a trespassing/greedy/jealous hunter. We all know the type, they don't want others to shoot "their deer". They steal stands and do anything else they can to give the competition a hard time. There was another post on here where a fellow hunter had the lock to his climbing stand glued tight so he couldn't use it that day. It's pretty pathetic really.
  22. That is a good thing, especially for next year! Bucks have been a bit scarce here but seeing lots of deer.
  23. I've found that I'm pretty close at scoring the rack. I've been using cams for a long time, study deer in general and have a good eye for it. I've also scored bucks with the methods used by the offical scorers and am not far off.
  24. Nice deer on the last day, congrats!
