King Buck controversy is out of control.

So let me get this straight, P+Y and B+C measurers are being fired ( even though they are not paid its supposedly an "honor" to score racks for them ) for voicing there opinion that the buck be scored as a typical. And now no one will even score it for the state because it is considered to controversial. Poor guy cant catch a break can he. What a load of crap, I would be pissed!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND CURRENT AND ASPIRING MEASURERS NOT COMMENT ON THIS!!!!!

I have read about this in the past. With so many highly regarded scorers considering this buck to be a typical why don't they just panel score it?

My opinion is not doing so damages the credibility of the B&C organization. Why is Pope and Young getting involved with a rifle killed buck? The whole thing wreaks of Politics or a personal grudge.

i'm not a fan of either group, even though I've been to the first home of the P&Y club Northwest Archery and my friend and sometime hunting partner owns Glen ST,Charles work bench and hand tools .

Im not into measureing racks and making hunting into another damn pissing match. Mine's bigger !! The most I do is inside spread. YMMV.

B&C and P&Y are private clubs nothing more,I don't think they can lay claim to "world record" anything.Club record sure. But what I think does not count just ask the Mrs.

So there you have it. There is no way that hunters can get involved with any organization without being torn apart by controversy. It finally has come to me that we as hunters are incapable of getting along with each other on any subject or maintaining any organization that is capable of getting any significant hunter support. When I look at our advocacy groups and the way hunters nit-pick them to death, this little controversy really comes as no surprise at all. Why should it? It is staffed, run and comprised of hunters.

As far as I am concerned, neither of these organizations or any of their spawned off wannabes need to exist anyway. Measuring hunting success by the numbers is a foolish waste of time and effort anyway. But all this does highlight the sorry state of hunters to come to agreements on anything at all.

I wonder if the anti-hunter organizations have all this in-fighting and nit-picking nonsense going on all the time?

Its quite sad actually, any hunter kills an exceptional buck and he gets torn apart because there is someone who thinks there form of hunting is better, or out of plain jealousy! This buck is a monster killed under fair chase and will be or not be the next world record if ever the scorers can get there s--t together.

D&DH is sensationalizing this issue, too, which at first seems like a good thing, but really, it's rather shoddy business practice. They sensationalize because they are getting the attention (press/$$$) from it.

I really think the private orgs are dropping the ball on this one by not letting it be panel scored.

To me, D&DH is acting like nothing more than an ambulance chaser to ride a topic that generates their bottom line. Almost tabloidish.

That mag used to be GREAT. It's mediocre now, but still leading the pack for scientific/natural info on deer/hunting to the casual masses.

The guy doesn't have to get torn apart by anyone if he doesn't want to. He could just take his deer and go home and not worry about what it "scores". Hang it on the wall and just say it's a "big sucker". I will never have a tape measure on any deer I ever shoot, I don't care how big it is.

X2. There are a lot that feel no need for a number to be attached to the experience.

Hard for those "in the business" to understand.

And people wonder why I do not get my avatar (2010)buck scored... While I can not say I will never get it scored, I do not need a number to put on my deer except his 207 lbs dress wieght... I see nothing wrong with scoring but it does turn into a pissing contest many times from what I have seen... This is a perfect example of that. It should be about the experience and the thrill of the hunt yet when ever a big buck is killed contraversy and accusations seem to follow.

The hunter should be proud to have taken such an amazing deer, the fact that it could be a new world record drives him to get it scored and I see nothing wrong with that... The internal fighting about this deer shows how divided and stupid hunters can be and makes me second guese the validity of B&C.

What a shock another hunter controversy... I wonder if thier will ever be anything we can all agree on.

While each orginazation has it's own agenda I believe we need these organizations to stand up for our rights. We are much more powerful as a united voice than individuals alone. And while no organization is perfect or represents everything we stand for they do help in our efforts to keep hunting alive...

LOL, who you kiddin' . The minute you shoot a buck that looks like it might be 215" typical, your finding a tape measure, just like the rest of us mature buck hunters.

Oh boy, here we go with the "us mature buck hunters" vs everybody else.

No, actually I won't be looking for a tape measure because I wouldn't even be aware that it "might be a 215" typical". I couldn't look at a buck and even begin to guess whether it was a 120" or 300" or anything in between and I'm not interested in learning. I like to look at the pictures of big bucks but as soon as the numbers start flying around I "change the channel" so to speak. Not into the "horn porn" arguments.

Covert, pretty sure you were the one that first turned this into a one type of hunter vs. the other type of hunter tread. Even though we americans have been scoring deer for about 140 years now, you would think that it's the root of all evil in the hunting world. By the way, even throughout time, native americans and many indiginous people judged their warriors and chiefs by the great animals they killed. So please don't look down your nose at those of us that enjoy hunting the big deer. Now as for this King buck , i would agree with you and others that this is a total joke. I believe this buck should get a panel score. It's interesting that the past two bucks that looked like they might dethrone the Hanson Buck have both been classified under dubious circumstances as a non-typical buck. The other was the Zaft buck taken in Alberta about 10 years ago. Zaft ended up not entering his buck out of protest. Not really sure what crap is going on with the Boone and Crocket club but I hope there is some way to make some changes at the top levels because they seam to be really screwing this one up.

Hanson has made a bundle of money on the current world record deer. If I was King I would get a lawyer and force the issue if possible. Were not talking piddly few thousand dollars were talking a life changing amount of change!!! Whether you agree with it or not record bucks mean record money. And by not even scoring it, he is missing out on state record and world record money. He is stupid if he doesnt sue.

I don't look down on anyone who measures their deer.

It would be nice to have the same respect returned rather then basically called a liar.

If you tuelly would not measure a new world record typical $10,000.000 buck, then i apologize for implying that you are not a man of your word. You would simply be a honest idiot.

Looks like making money from being in "the business" jades one into being insulting.

Yep, that's what hunting is all about - do it my way or you are an idiot.

I have never and will never mount a deer either - regardless of "inches".

Have fun with that one as well.

Listen Steve, your a nice guy and maybe i was being a bit snarkey but give me a break. You don't get almost 1000 posts on here without getting challenged on some comments. You have posted two things on this thread and both have insulted me and my livelyhood. I didn't whine about it. So stop already.. Edited by dave6x6

Didn't mean the 1st one as an attack at all - just that someone as involved and passionate as you seem to be might not see how others feel differently. Sorry my intent was not clearer. Conversation would probably go much different face to face.
