Hi everyone, I just signed up, looked like a nice forum to join. I am from eastern long island, but basically raised on a mountain in Delaware county off rt.17. The property is pretty isolated 5 acres with a cabin no running water or electric and I LOVE it. I am a mother of three kids-5yrs,7yrs, and 3rd will be born thiscoming November 2012.

My father is out of the picture, and my husband has some hunting experience but is not into going out crazy early and freezing his ass off anymore :P but supports my interests. I am basically learning on my own, have had my hunting license for about 9 years, since the kids are not babies anymore I am starting to get into deer hunting past the two years. I also want to get into Turkey hunting. I have a 7yr old English Springer spaniel who I never trained to flush upland, but I have seen him use his natural abilities to flush and sit all on his own. I had once joined a ducks unlimited session with my dog in manorville, ny . It was awesome experience, my dog did great, except they all train use pointing dogs , and I didn't pursue with them because my pup flushed. It was still great to see him in action.

Anyway, I am hoping to keep up at this forum and learn from others as I really don't have others to get experience from!

Welcome to the HNY.com site. I take it you have been lurking for a bit and finally built up enough courage to sign up? That's pretty much what I did. For the most part I'm a very shy meak kinda guy.

What the hell are you doing up ar 4:30am?

Once again, welcome!

Thanks everyone!

Haha funnnnnnnyyyy law, I don't know why I was up at 430am, but Monday-thru Friday I am up at 5am for work so my body wakes up on weekends around that time sometimes I guess.

Hi paula, yes I know there are few of us around, I am sure I wouldnt be into hunting if I wasn't raised going to our cabin on weekends my whole life. It definitely shaped who I am, and am thankful for that. Luckily my kids love going upstate, my husband I am working on.

And yes elmo, I will be skipping this season out, although a little part of me is wanting to go I am crazy like that. I think its best to skip out, my area is part of the new AR in 4w not that I ever saw any bucks, but maybe it will be even better next year. I found some fresh scrapes on the ground last November and I was so excited to do that on my own. Small steps, I am thinking of buying and playing with a camera next summer.

Yep my 7yr old son will probably be joining me alot in the future, my daughter who is 5yrs old is interested too. I want them to be able to understand everything though, and appreciate nature and what it gives us.

I have a Remington .270 Win, it fits me well, I wanted something with not too much kick but that could take down whitetails no problem. I have been shooting the 130grain. Haven't tried the 150 grain yet.

I have two old single shot shotguns (12,20g) that were my fathers but I don't want to use them because they are from about 1940 and 1960 I think.

When I can, my next purchase will

be to buy a camo pump shotgun, something I can do Turkey with. But if I want to try other things, something I can switch a barrel out for etc.

(I was using my mother in laws pump 12 &20g shotguns that were collecting cob webs literally till my brother in law had a fit when he found out we had them after 8yrs of him not using them he randomly wanted them. So to not cause a big fight we just gave them to him, so my husband promised to buy me a shotgun when he can. Stupid family dynamics)
