2012 Bow Hunting Harvest Thread

Wind moved the arrow quite a bit. Well that's what I tell myself anyway. It could just be I am a terrible shot.

He was broadside at 35 yards. The way it looked I thought I hit him in the upper leg. I waited an hour before checking it out. I figured i plowed it into his upper right leg. When I found blood I was still not sure I had a decent hit. The blood trail proved otherwise I was able to harvest him.

Last weekend, got in my treestand an hour before sunrise. I love watching the light come up. After sitting for a few minutes in the dark, I started hearing footsteps. Took almost 20 minutes before I could make out the body of a deer feeding not 30 yards from my stand. Light grew brighter and brighter, felt like it was taking an eternity. Deer kept walking closer and closer to me. Checked my watch for legal shooting time, green light, not 30 seconds later the deer stepped out behind a big oak, and I thumped him. I thought it was a doe, turned out to be a spike (less then 2" on both sides) almost impossible to tell in the dark like that. Shot was a bit high, made recovery tricky, but we stayed on it, and a found him about 20 yards away from where we found the arrow.

  • RITBlake didn't you already get a buck early in the season or are you in north country where regular season opened up for ya

less than 3 inches you can use a dmp.

Note: Deer Management Permits (DMPs) and Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) permits are for antlerless deer. Bucks with antlers less than 3 inches long are not considered legally antlered deer and may be taken using a DMP or DMAP permit. Additionally, Bonus DMPs are valid for antlered or antlerless deer. Adult deer are ≥1.5 years old. Fawn deer are <1 year old

My first bow season in Western New York. I had little time to scout my selected public land parcel but made due and harvest a nice 8 pointer. I gruntted a few times and he was on a string right to my stand with in 15 yards. Can 't wait for next season!

I dig the forum and the website, great work everyone on the harvests.

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

      Hey All,
New to the forum, already missing the deer season and have curiosity to quell. This was a great non-typical I was chasing all season in a bow-only area of Ithaca. Anyone know or hear of a non-typical of this caliber being killed? I'll be out scouting for him aggressively soon enough. Thanks!

Hello folks. I'm a novice hunter from almost Central NY. I live amongst the cow fields about 20 minutes south of the ADK park. I'm here hoping that I can learn from those who know more than I do. That's probably most of you. LOL. This is my second season and so far I still have all of my tags. I have a rifle but I'm not comfortable shooting it in the area I hunt due to people being near. I'm hoping to fill at least one of my tags before Dec 19.
