Early
I have always thought that a dog's name should be...one sylable only..something that does in no way rhyme with any obedience command. ants
I have had 2 chocolates, both males, (English with the big block heads) My first was "Rudy" my favorite. Lost him when he was 13 about 5 years ago. He was an excellent bird dog. I got out of bird hunting and more into bow, so I didn't want another dog but the wife insisted. So the current dog is "Reggie" He's OK but I just can't warm up to him as much as my old friend Rudy. He was really my dog. He followed me every where. If I moved my truck to the other side of the driveway, he jummped in for the ride. I know that Rudy and Reggie are boy names, but thats my story. Good luck

Lawdwaz
I had a Krista and have a Jenny. Always liked Lisa for some reason. I'll give you the absolute worst, Girl. Yep, honest to goodness. My friend got a used dog and it was named Girl. Freaking stupid name .................. Funny, I call my dog pup more than anything and she is 9 years old. crappyice
My Brittany is named Trico while he is only two colors...caught a great trout in Montana on a size 24 Trico fly...liked the sound of it. Other fly names I considered were Caddis and Sulphur. I like two syllable names.
tughillhunter
My St.bernard is named Whiskey. My Ma in law named all her dogs (bernese mt dogs) after spices. Pepper. Chili, Cayenne, Jalepeno, Sage, and Belle. When we get ours, I'm naming her Ginger. Oh, and yes, all those Berners are living in the house with her, lol. tuckersdaddy
my beagle mixes are hansel and greddel. Best hunting dogs i ever had. very smart. they will stand under your feet while you cooking and keep trying to trip you til you drop food. plus they find the crumbs of the floor before you can get the broom. scared to death of squirrels rabbits and other small critters but perk right up at deer bear and fedex carriers (the ups guy and the mail man bring treats!) PooperScooper
I'm a fan of short names that are easy for the dog to hear quickly in case you need to call them out of a dangerous situation. I have border collies. They traditionally have short names that can be yelled from a distance. Pete, for instance, is pretty popular for working border collies. Then we ended up with this husky, which we named Mishka, but call Mo..as in The Mighty Mo. Mo rhymes with no, obviously. It's short but can confuse her if someone tells her "no," which rarely happens. She's not spoiled . We simply don't use "no" very often. We ususally give a comand for the dog to do something other than what it's doing, rather than try to get them to stop doing something that seems perfectly reasonable to them. But that's another story. So..all that being said, I like Mocha as a name for a chocolate lab. And I'd probably call her Mo.
