WELLSY
For sure a genetic issue. I would take it out of the herd. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free Edited September 15, 2013 by WELLSY

Kot2B
The antlers almost look like they're shedding still. This thing perplexes me! Partly wanna see if its going to get bigger but also want it to not breed. What else could cause this beside injury?
Lawdwaz
Good lord.............the thing appears to have no hair either?? Spooky looking if you ask me. Kind of Biz-R-O............grin
New York Hillbilly
Looks like it ran head first into the side of a car or something, and messed it's skull up. Whatever the case, I agree that it is one ugly looking situation.
NFA-ADK
Shoot that thing, before it gets to the children! I would not want that breeding... JMO I was wondering if it was female...

2012_taco
that is scary looking, but I believe it is from an injury, It would be cool to see if it changes or gets bigger in next couple of years. only time will tell, dead buck never get bigger.JMO
landtracdeerhunter
Could be a doe. I'd pass it.... it's ugly, lol I would think an antlered doe would still be in velvet? IDK.
Kot2B
This guy was with a decent 6 chasing a fawn around. I have pictures of them both nose to the ground pushing the fawn, a doe showed up after a couple minutes and chased the bucks. This all happened between 745-815 AM yesterday by the apple trees. Last year I had a drop tine with 3 on the other antler, wonder if he got lucky last year and this is what we ended up with this year. sampotter
An antlered doe would most likely still be in velvet. It's not uncommon for droptines and/or dropbeams to reatain shreds of velvet because of the way the antler bone grows. A lot of the time the ends become engorged with blood because of gravity, resulting in softer, more porous bone which seems to have a hard time shedding velvet. This is most likely the result of an injury. I would let him be and see what he turns into- the idea of "culling" to improve the genetics is the biggest farce in deer hunting.
landtracdeerhunter
It sure has a doe head on it. Personally, I'd want to satisfy my curiosity, to pass on future knowledge. I have witnessed animals like this, but never manage to see during deer season. Maybe they don't pass by the first hunter.
gjs4
Glad to see so many deer managers on here and would love to hear more about managing herds for small parcels in a state with no quality management ....please enlighten Messed up his juvenile rack.... does select whom they breed with....odds are some genius will shoot him with the philosophy of making a "better" deer so save your tag unless this is what you aspire to harvest. You want bigger deer? Dont shoot little ones or think youll get them by culling any buck in NY.
