Dragging my 65 yr old butt outta bed before daylight

The older I get the less I hate getting up early to climb into my stand.

I like to be in half hour before legal shooting time but I’m starting to enjoy late afternoon hunts more

Same here. I'm up at 4 am today to bow hunt this beautiful morning. Last year was a different story and I wasn't sleeping well (sleep apnea). I hardly went in the am. Now that I'm sleeping much better I'm better at getting up, but still at 61 its hard.

I feel the same way . At 83 it gets tougher to climb out of bed at zero dark thirty and the drive 50 miles to a hunting spot . I could hunt 10 miles away in Walworth but at my age I don't hunt unless one of my sons is with me . I didn't get to be this old by being too stupid .

63 here. I have always been up bright and early, so getting up and into my stand still doesnt bother me. What does, is that all my hunting buddies are scattered, so I hunt mostly alone. I really miss the company/talking about the day, etc.

I bagged a buck with my ML early, which I am happy for the meat. I have the last week of the season of which is when i usually see the most deer, and more bucks, but I really dont have much drive to get out in the woods now.

I hunt alone occasionally but most of the time I'm with family and or friends. In my opinion the meeting back up at the truck at the end of the hunt is almost as fulfilling as the hunt itself. I really enjoy the tailgate stories.

I get up early to go to work everyday, so it pains me to get up early on my day's off, but you gotta be in it to win it.

I also enjoy watching the world wake up with a view not blocked by a windshield.

I have a ground blind that faces south, so I get to watch the sun rise and set.

I'm happy it sets earlier, as it gives me more time to hunt coyote.

Up again today ay 4 am. No work today. I work PT at the elementary school in Bath. 9:45 - 1:30. Can get me two hours in the stand and enough time to get to work in the am.  Going to be cold tomorrow morning 25 degrees may do one last morning hunt tomorrow. Rest of the week the afternoon.

My brother is here at my house for a couple of weeks. I can let it lay and track it later in the day or have him look for it. Calling in sick is an option but I love my co workers too much to pick up my slack. It is an option though! lol

I have to say that the morning hunt usually seems more productive. Also a deer that is badly hit in the morning gives you immediate daylight to locate the first blood and the rest of the day to locate the deer. That can be a a great advantage over relying on a flashlight to try to find that first blood or your arrow.

However getting up in the dark and climbing up that killer hill is something that gets harder and harder to do as age keeps creeping up on me. I have to admit that my early morning hunts are usually now limited to opening day of gun season. It's not the way I want it, but it's getting to be the way that it has to be.

Regarding the part of this thread that deals with hunting alone vs. hunting with someone, my hunting is done alone now. The people that I used to hunt with have either stopped hunting, or moved away, or died. Yes, at my age, hunting alone is a gamble, so I stay pretty close to home and carry a cell phone for any sort of emergency. The good news is that the deer drags are usually downhill to the house......lol. No more wandering all over the hill and valley to hunt for me anymore.
