The_Field_Ager
Managed an a hour n half. Saw a head bobbing at about 70 yards, a hen I think. Otherwise very quiet. Neighbor was scratching away at his slate above me in the field.
2012_taco
I went out local as I knew when the rain started I would head home. Didn't hear a bird, only a neighbor set up on the gas line yelping on a box call, checked out a field I have been seeing birds out strutting mid morning and it now has 2 blinds set up on it, no birds though. I think they have been hunted hard during the week. Rain got serious around 9 so I went home and back to bed!
Five Seasons
So I use my iPhone as an alarm clock. Last night I set my weekday alarm on accident at at 5am I woke up very pissed. I had even gone to bed early. I will go out tomorrow instead but it looks windy and cold. Ugh.
ATbuckhunter
Well called in another bird, but for my father...this time it was a 3 year old with a 10" plus beard. He came in gobbling and strutting just like we all like to see. Got to 45 yards and would not come any closer...not sure if he actually saw the decoys but he would not come closer. At the time we thought it was around 55 yards and we didn't want to risk the shot so we passed. He eventually worked off but came back when i was getting out of the blind so I spooked him. Hopefully he's there next week. All this happened between 11:30 and 12. I called him from about 300 yards away so I feel accomplished today. turkeyfeathers
I'm ditching the dekes. Twice now I know birds saw them and hung up. Woods are sparse. Going to make them come looking for me.

WNY Bowhunter
Set up on the gobbler that my buddy and I went after opening day. He went up last night at 8:10 with 4 hens. I'm not gonna touch a call...he's been coming out here in the morning for two months now. Hope the blind in the open field and dekes do the trick.
WNY Bowhunter
He's gobbled a few times now right above me. Come on down big boy...

landtracdeerhunter
My last hen sighting was May 7th. I have yet to see a jake or tom and haven't heard a gobble all season. Talk about discouraging.
WNY Bowhunter
Nothing has come out yet. Go figure. Trying to keep the blind staked down the best I can. Think I'll give him another hour to show.

Birds here like sunshine and 70's just like me! I'm sure I'm not missing out on much today.

Lawdwaz
A few days ago the weatherman said 15-25mph winds and rain. Wrong again.................... I think a guy could kill one today, like any day. You need to be in it to win it........ A real good friend and mentor that passed a few years ago in his early 80's killed a sub-compact p/u truck load of gobblers by being THERE. He called awful, lit one match around 5:00am then it was one cigarette after another; lit end to end while sitting on a log. He'd cough, sneeze and yes, fart too. Rare was the year he didn't kill his two birds in NYS and one in Pennsylvania. Being there makes all the difference in the world. I didn't pay attention so well as here I sit, in my easy chair.

Five Seasons
The positive side of this cold weather is that I haven't seen a black fly all morning! But I also haven't seen a gobbler

Are you using a tom? I ditched him a while ago and only use a jake and hens for that reason
turkeyfeathers
Are you using a tom? I ditched him a while ago and only use a jake and hens for that reason DSD jake and upright hen set up. They narrow the gap from wherever they are coming from, see the dekes which now are supposed to move, real birds hang for awhile, get bored and simply walk off. I scratched behind me yesterday, soft clucked, purred all around the side of my leg. Nada
WNY Bowhunter
Had the gobbler pop out about 45 minutes ago. He picked around for a couple of minutes. I called at him since I couldn't see the hens. He started my way but couldn't see the dekes because they was a knoll between them. My calling fired up a hen on the hillside and he went up to her. Got in a pissing match with here...she was within range but I couldn't see her. Don't know how much longer I am going to sit here holding the blind down with a piece of rope... Yeah...If you consider the hours I spend turkey hunting verses the number of birds I have killed, I'm a pretty PATHETIC turkey hunter. I just wear 'em down with persistence. That said, I took this morning off myself...Gotta take a day off once in awhile to recharge my batteries.
landtracdeerhunter
I give in to temptation. The smell of homemade breakfast venison sausage, home fries, and pancakes with pure fresh hot maple syrup with a side order of toast sure slid down the hatch nicely on this cold damp dreary day, LOL. Good luck to you still out.
Five Seasons
Just got back inside and this is a damn good cup of coffee. Silent morning after a late start and the wind really picked up. Saw at least a dozen deer and had 4 younger bucks come right into the deeks
