12 or 20 gauge slug gun what do you prefer ?

If I'm dedicating a slug gun...it's 20. I think the modern performance of 20 ga loads are dandy.

If' I'm looking for the gun to do double duty, with turkey and/or birds...12 ga.

haven't seen a slug 12 or 20 that wont kill a deer

My only experience is with 2-3/4 12ga. slugs. I have killed deer with foster slugs and sabot.If the slug is in the right place there is no way a deer should go far if at all.The majority of the deer I have taken were 50 yds or less .

My father in law got me started with deer hunting . He had a Mossberg 500 20 gauge and shot several deer with it . He loaned it to my sister in law and one of the deer she shot with it was about a 130 yard shot . I paced it off at 169 paces . Federal foster slug and a smooth bore barrel . It's a lot easier on the shoulder than a 12 ga .

my limited experience with a slug gun has always been 20.  I used one the first three years I went to the southern tier with great success.  Then I switched to a 50 cal ml and never looked back.

It has been all  12 ga for me. Was required by my Father and my uncles to hunt. They were not fans of the 20. When I started we only had pumpkin ball slugs...lol. I remember getting the federals or remingtons on sale to $0.99 per box. Like many said here ...well placed shot will put them down with either...and a misplaced shot will cost you an animal with either.

It has been 3 years since I have carried my 12ga. I got my 50 cal ML and have used that whenever I am in shotgun land.

20ga deer or turkey........I wouldn't hestitate to shoot a bear with it either...and it's a roller on yotes

For my dedicated deer gun it is a 20. I get sick of target shooting the 12 and feel like a mule kicked me in the shoulder. It makes for poor shooting habits or not practicing. Also the 20 shoots flatter.
