Nomad
So tomorrow I have to go to,the Buffalo airport to swap out a car, we have our daughters to have work done and she has one of ours parked there . I thought perhaps I'd add a stop at Cabela's if it's close, which it looks like it is. I've been to F&S , Gander MTN , never a Cabela's . How's their hiking. Backpacking selection ? I'm looking for new day pack, possible Camelback, around here the selection seems lacking . Thanks.

landtracdeerhunter
We made a trip to Hamburg Pa. several years ago. Don't get me wrong, the Walden Avenue one is nice, but hardly compares in atmosphere and values. The PA. one is mind blowing and well worth the six to seven hour trip. We had no room in the car, on the return trip home. People in that area are lucky to have such a nice Cabelas store. If you ever get a chance to go, by all means do it. turkeyfeathers
I've found their inventory to be a little light lately. Haven't heard any rumors lately of Bass Pro taking them over. But have heard that a few times. I called salesman out a month ago. he said "they're going after a Bass Pro look" on the way they merchandise. phade
The Buffalo store ranks among the least impressive Cabela's I've been too. I've been to 6 or 7 of them. Unfortunately, all of the new stores are going to be this model going forward. The days of the mega superstore are gone. We still go 1-2x a year because I'll make a day of it with the wife to go to the mall and eat at Smokey Bones - the best national chain of BBQ I've been to. Their in-house amber ale is good. It's in the same parking lot as Cabelas. Edited June 24, 2016 by phade
Nomad
Well I swapped cars at the Buffalo airport and went to Cabela's , only to remember I left my uniform in the trunk of the car I dropped off! I got plenty, but this one had a Microtec switchblade and a Strider fixed blade and a flashlight I use a lot in the pants . Store was nice ( I'm not a shopper by and standard ). Spent about half and hour , bought 600 rounds of 9mm. They had a nice price on Sig Sauer hollow points. Oh a decent knife counter , Benchmade, Spydreco and some Knives of Alaska , KOA are very nice hunting blades if anyone is in the market . It was a quick trip, I just got off nights and worked 38 hours in a row. 2 fires and a ton of other calls so I was a bit tired. One of the fires was a grow operation 150 pot plants up,in smoke..... Best smoke I took in , in sometime !!!! Edited June 24, 2016 by Larry302

A field and Stream is going in this year though. don't know if it's just more of the same stuff as Dick's. been to a couple of basspro's, including the one in Atlanta, GA just recently. that was big. Lawdwaz
I saw my first Cabela's in......IIRC 1989. Another thing I'm not sure of is, was it Kearney or Sidney, Nebraska? One thing I'm sure of is my mind ain't what it was. I do recall that when my buddy Tom and I stepped into the place we just about fell over from the shear size of the joint. MY goodness it was incredible. Since then I think the only other stores of theirs I've been to our Hamburg PA and of course Cheektowaga. Probably been to three or four Bass Pro Stores and one Sportsman's Warehouse. Ho Humm...................

Nomad
"Larry why do you keep taking your mask off? And who ate my dorittos?" We were on the roof , cut two vent holes and removed some metal over windows on a part of the building that was two stories. It was by looking in there that we saw all the burned plants, I walked over to the Chiefs to tell them rather then put it out over the air. Soon after the dispatcher put it out for everyone to " remain on air, until told otherwise. " lol Luckily a guy who owns a nearby business , did bring us a few dozen donuts .

I commented to the Cheektowaga employees how lucky they were to work in such a great store. I joked that they even got paid for it. They didn't think I was funny. grampy
Getting low on a couple of my favorite soft baits. My wife just asked if I would like to go to the Bass Pro Shops in Utica. Well heck yeah says I!! Leaving in just a bit. She does not hunt or fish but is my biggest supporter of all my outdoor adventures. I'm a lucky man! Since we'll be out that way, I'll stop at Turning Stone to let her play the Willie Wonka machine for a bit! A win-win day for us both!

I applied there when they first opened. Quoted at $9/HR. Said "no thank you" Countered with $11 Um, no thanks. I've managed a large retail store for 25 years. No training needed. So they aren't "really" getting paid. Oh, but woman said I'd get a great discount on merchandise. Ya, I'll make no money to pay for it either. Similar in that they were HUGE and had lots of stuff I lusted over. Overwhelming is a fairly good way to describe them..................... 2012_taco
I stopped at Cabellas in Mitchell SD, ( I though it was in Sioux Falls Sd) on my way to Sturgis in 2005. It was the biggest hunting & fishing store I had ever seen! The Cheektavegas store is nothing compared to the others. The only good thing is if you need something right now they probably have it.
Trial153
Just look at the SQF of the store...if it's under 100k you most likely won't be all that impressed
