I am not buying it.  The pictures look fishy.  Why would the DEC use a beat up cub-cadet lawnmower with tire chains on it to retrieve the carcass ?   Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
It's a geared tractor....

EHG has occurred in NY. About  eight - ten years ago in Voorheesville WMU 4-J there were about 80 deer affected.

That is just down the mountain from our property.

so is it dangerous to eat venison from a deer infected with either CWD or EHD?  I have no idea but seem to recall CWD was similar to mad cow disease which can be problematic for humans.

EHD is transmitted by bugs i believe. I don't think EHD venison can effect a human. However, deer with EHD usually end up with other illnesses/diseases because of it, so who knows what the deer may have. I think it is recommended to NOT eat deer that have signs of illness of any sort.

EHD is by the bite of a Midge. The deer will not end up with any other problem. Gets bite. Develops massive fever and Dead usually within hours. Hence you will find them around and in water most times if they have EHD. Most pic's that you see some use for the fear monger of CWD is actually deer with EHD. No people have ever became sick from eating CWD positive meat as of the last 50 plus years so its unlikely any ever will. A lot of hunters do not even get their deer tested even in positive states. With it being in Pa for so many years I would guess we already have CWD in this state, It would be found if our state actually tested any real numbers of deer. A couple thousand out of a million is not called testing.
