Well, I shot what I believed to be a mature doe last night. Upon recovery, it ended up being a buck that never grew antlers...all he has were little nubs indicative of a buttonbuck. I guess that he was a good deer to get out of the herd...

Guys, I am new here.

Could you please answer me these couple questions:

In this case which tag should we use Buck or doe?

If buck then shouldnt buck have to be 6point? by Ny law?

and other question:

If I shoot a fawn should i use doe tag?

It qualifies as antlerless as it does not have any points exceeding 3 inches. I believe three inches is the limit. So you would use your antlerless tag. And six points is an antler restriction that is applied in some hunting areas. Most areas do not have antler restrictions and you can therefore take any buck. If you shoot a fawn you should use an antlerless tag.

Check the WMU that you hunt for any special regulations or antler restrictions.

Looks too big to be a button buck to me.

anything under 3 inches is considered antlerless deer, depending on your region.

WNY BOWHUNTER you didn't smile again, don't you want the anti-hunters to like you ? I shot what I thought was a doe once but it was a buck with one aprox. 1 in. wide by 2 in. long flat, weird looking antler .Congratulations.

we all do that. its hard to tell at a distance, especially broadside. i did it once and was like damn! oops.
