I didn't know I was a racist, thanks for clearing that up. I do know that I am PROUD to be WHITE, and will make no apologies for that. I have black friends, I have asian friends, I even have gay friends, but I am proud of my WHITE CHRISTIAN heritage. Anybody got an issue with that? If so, piss off. Since when does disliking a politician because of his character, and his record make somebody racist? I would have gladly voted for Herman Cain, if the obama administration hadn't slandered him into surrender.3 points

I was born into a hunting/outdoor family (Thank god) killed my first rabbit at 12 and first deer at 14 in 1994 and the rest is history. I can't imagine getting started with out a mentor, and I feel for you fellas that did it on your own. I am continuing the tradition with my kids, both are outdoorsie and love hunting and shooting and the whole nine. We can be found together every where and thats the way we like it. I got a good laugh one day when I was in the training field with the dogs and turned around to see my 3 year old girl carrying out a dead bird for me proud as could be. I stopped to wonder just how many 3 year old girls would do such a thing, and to us it is completely normal.2 points

That actually appears to be the Hudson Valley branch oh the organization. The members of this bracnch have the ability to set teh focus for the branch and lobbying for MANDATORY AR's is not a requirement for a chapeter. I can' only guess that the members out there decided they wanted to push that aspect. I can tell you this and I will mix no words about it. I have not....will not EVER push for legislated mandatory AR's . If a Co-op wants to make it mandatory for THEIR land...have at it. but I won't support it legislated/regulated for anyone. In fact I will actively work against any group that does, including this one. I took on a Chairman position for the education committe for this Chapter. My personal opinion is that letting bucks mature is a benefit. I think this should be encouraged through education and not through legislation/regulations.I think it is a benefit to my hunting experience but other hunters should have the right ot define their experience.2 points

So let me see if I understand your comment . . . Are you saying that I can't agree with the statement that working people should not be taxed to the point where their money is taken from them and given to those who can but are unwilling to work looking for a handout, yet I can't apply that to a President who has shown us over the last 4 years that it is OK to give the handouts to lazy people?? Regardless of what side your are on or believe I think we can all agree that all politicians are liars, and will tell us whatever we want to hear so they can get into office and then when they do get elected, they screw us all one way or another.2 points

Since when do you have to have something to do with what you're proud of??... I was proud of how hard my father worked hard to give my family a good life.. I didn't have any control over that... but I can still be proud of him. One can also be proud of his heritage even though it would have been impossible to be there... thats why they call it heritage... and you can have something to do with your heritage.. you can pass it on... and chest beating is good for scaring away all the wimpy gorilla's!1 point

I don't think any area is suitable for an OK corral style shoot out. Law enforcement is best left to ...well ..law enforcemnt. But it is very likely, that is you are confronted by a person with a gun it will be an up close matter and the law enforcement are not there. Unfortuantely our Law enforcement spend a lot of time in the investigation aspect of a shooting. It is over by then. If all of us NY Hunting members were in an auditorium for a meeting and and armed gunman barged in and opened fire, do we hope someone is carrying or are we glad no one is? It is easy to say we can't afford colateral damage but people are falling with every shot fromhe gunman. If you are standing the with a pistol and the gunman is shooting and you have your pistol, there are members in the background....he is shooting and people are falling. do you shoot? Tough questions and I really don't think there is a "right" answer that fits everyone. BUT there aslo isn't a "right" answer that should be imposed on everyoe either.1 point

I understand your point Steve but, if someone draws down on me I would much rather be armed than unarmed. It is that simple. This is a fair point. But, up until now, all of the posts on this thread have been about 'armed citizens' saving the day, not defending themselves. What many have advocated is more like vigilante justice than self defense. Big difference and a much greater potential to make a bad situation exponentially worse as far as I'm concerned.1 point

OMG what a MONSTER!!! (Family site, so I better keep it clean and not say what I really said when I first saw the pic!!! ) Glad you finally got pics of him!! Now, to get an arrow through him!!!1 point

It is a great choice. don't get scared off by recoil in that platform. The downside i see on the 6.8 is ammo availability compared to other calibers. Like you said they look kick a$$ but you sure are going to want to shoot it,....lol. I really want a 3081 point

I agree.... the decision is the hunters. I don't know why an experienced hunter would want to shoot a 1.5 year old but that is their business. QDM is so much more than what to shoot. Being a steward of our natural resources and giving back to the woods is a great appeal to me!1 point

No doubt about it, age is the key factor. If the state ever closed deer season for 3 years the quality of bucks running around would be mind-boggling!!!1 point

i think i might have said this before, this country is getting stupider by the day. and its because we even entertain stupid comments made by stupid politicos like this guy in Texas. heres one for you, how about a civil war between all good hard working middle class people and dumb arsed rednecks like these idiots down in Texas.1 point

Early I have to ask and mean no disrespect whatsoever. But are you related or married to Skully by chance? You got anything else other than playing a racist card against anyone who dislikes Obama? I could care less if the man is friggin pea green and I am pretty sure that most really dont give a rats ass what the color of his skin is either. We certainly care that he is burying this country every second he is in the whitehouse thats for sure. Can you even tell us truthfully one thing he has done to better this country? And no Im not sorry one bit for these lazy ass people who can work and provide for their families all while holding the hand out saying me me me. And dont take that out of context make note that I said lazy ass people who CAN WORK! I have zero problems helping people in need and fully support it till they get back on there feet. Sorry I have to go now Im running late for my KKK meeting!1 point

I'm sorry to say if anything it's just the opposite, I haven't meant a black person yet thats going to vote for Romney. And i'm not racist but I try to look at the truth. These people will vote for Obama and know next to nothing about whats even going on in the campaign run. But hey thats just what I think I've seen enough of... " The Change ".1 point

Early you are a true cretin. Intellectual and Obama can't be put in the same sentance. He is a stoner, drunk, a true pot head and never even provided proof he graduated from any school. Don't believe me, listen to him reading from his book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrZ25jvcacA Obama has no idea of what he is saying because he doesn't even pre-read his speechs. Have you heard him try and talk without a teleprompter? Guess not, MSNBC wouldn't dare broadcast the real Obama so how would you see that. I know you get a monthly check from the government and feel some loyalty to Obama as a result, but don't forget where that money comes from. That's right it is 1% that help pay your way. So say thank you the next time you cross the path of someone wealthy. It's no more their fault they are rich, than it is yours that you are a liberal Dem with your handout.1 point
-
I too won't turn my back to those less fortunate, unless your definition of less fortunate are those who can work but refuse to do so and always looking for a handout which was the point of the original post. Of course if one is put in a less fortunate situation not by their own hand or choosing then I'm all for helping as long as they are willing to help themselves get back on their own feet and don't end up milking the system. I certainly would want someone to do the same for me. As far as Romney being a Mormon, I don't base my voting decisions based on ones religion.1 point

The Goals of this chapter are to spread the word and principles of QDMA, not to push anything on anybody. The decision to pull the trigger is yours. I will say we advocate on passing on 1.5 year old bucks for experienced hunters. We want to increase awareness, support and improve the habitat and get hunters to become managers instead of just consumers.1 point

If you know where they are coming in and have.limited access areas...try a temporary solution...even snow fence....If they tear it down...now you have property damage and the authorities have to take a closer look...and in the mean time plant some thing fast growing with thorns,,,Osage orange trees centuries ago that was western fencing....ornamental quince bush...are two excellent choices...both are very fast growers with long stiff needle like thorns....also down the road they will produce fruit for wild life1 point

I have seen 3 legged deer run and keep up with 4 legged ones. If she makes it to the season she would probably survive. That said, if she presented me a shot and I had a tag during season I would take her.1 point

Thanks fellas, Some day I will be in that position to have a choice too. Side by sides seem to be less available than o/u's, so it is easy to find a decent stackbarrel. And to think a few years ago I couldn't care less about buying guns, now I have been on a roll so to speak, 3 shot guns in 2 years of different varieties and a few more to go and plans on another Browning rifle down the road...I'm going to need a bigger gun safe.1 point

Agreed, I have never paper tuned my bow and can shoot a cd out to 65 yards when my form is good... Both bow's MQ1 and Heliem. I though it was needed but after talking to a bunch of people I can see it is not... Tuning is just not needed if form is good and consistant... I purchased my bow from C&B archery in Hicksville and asked if they did paper tune it, they said no. I asked why and they said the bow was set up to factory spec. I asked them to test it. Dustin shot a perfect hole, then I shot(my form was off at the time) and tore a big tear in the paper. After getting my form back and getting a stiffer spine (400s to 340s)I can see the bow shoots true... Now I just need a worthy deer to shoot!1 point

I went about 15 years ago to a Easton arrow education center for Archery dealers and they had as a guest speaker the coach of the USA archery team and he talked about setting up bows and paper tuning, He asked as his first question how many use paper tuning and of the class there was only 3 of us that siad no we did not. He asked me why, and I told him since I was not a mechnical maching I did not think that I could have the same shot each time due to I was at that time a finger shooter and not a release.. He siad right on and then showed us flims of how by setting up the bow to paper sure did not seem to work as well as just making sure you had a good nock point and then putting baby powder on the rest / riser area and then shoot one arrow. Then check for drag marks to see if the arrow is clearing the rest without a hitting the riser etc. If hitting the riser you may have to fine tune the arrows to the bow like the arrow is to stiff or too weak a spine and have to lower the peak weight on the bow...I try to keep it all simple, I use a WB rest setup for me as now just a hunter. Works great in hunting for those shows under 40 yards. Most deer taken have been under 30 yards in the north east states due to are heavy brush etc, not like out west.1 point

i dont know, i have to say this whole bow tuning thing has been made to be way over complicated. i have owned atleast 20 some bows since the early 90s and have set up dozens of newbies bows, just did my son in laws last weekend. i have a few basic tools from around the house, and can have a bow setup in an hour. guys get way too into it with paper tuning, trying all kinds of gizmos that do absolutely nothing for you and worst spending all kinds of time adjusting this timing that. i say get your bow and square it up and spend that time shooting/developing your form instead. i paper tuned a bow once about 20 years ago and by the time i was done the damn was so out of kilter it was useless, havnt paper tuned one since and i can hit a pie plate at 50 yards with just about anyones bow that is the right draw lenght.1 point
