  1. There was a bit of confusion at the Dicks Sporting goods store this morning. When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder and bullets the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me." Making a mental note to complain to Harper about the gun registry people running amok. I did just as she had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to my credit card. I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer !

  2. I have been avoiding this site and these recent gun debates as of late as I feel that it way to soon in the wake of tragedy especially Sandy Hook that hit very close to home. I've was horrified to see the scum bag mayor of NY mayor Bloomburg screaming control even before the bodies of these victims had grown cold. No one can wrap their head around this tragedy so they are looking for reasons (Mental illness, gun control etc..) because we just can't fathom that there are such monsters in the world. I have always expressed my right-wing views about such things as gun control and President Obama but I have to give credit where its due and I was very grateful that the White house and the President took their time to express the liberal agenda and brushed off reporters and comments about gun control in the first days of this tragedy and expressed remorse and sympathy for the familys. I wish all liberals and even control advocates would have handled this the way Obama and his admin did. As a father of a young child and member of a church that was devastated by this, there has been nothing more disgusting then what I have seen from different advocates in the wake of this. I will reserve my opinions for the future when logic can overcome emotion and not so soon that I disrespect and disgrace the dead with my political views. I apologize for my rant. God be with everyone in Sandy Hook!

  4. After months, and months of going to court on BS charges, I have finally emerged victorious! I was scheduled for a trial on traffic tickets tonight. These tickets were for no insurance (I had insurance-got a ticket anyway), failure to update my new address on my drivers license (wrong again-my drivers abstract proved I submitted my info), and driving with a suspended registration (this suspension was actually rescinded-it was a screw up on the part of the insurance company). The final result was failure to prosecute, case dismissed. The problem, of course, was that my car was impounded ($700 to get it), I lost my job, and had to put out a lot of money for a rental car. It wiped me right out. Talk about a bittersweet victory! I just wish I knew how to recoup these losses.

  5. I agree with Irish Redneck: Do not ban guns or types of guns/ammo for civilians if the same are OK for the govt. (police) Additionally: No new laws that restrict my ability to defend myself and family. Repeal those (gun-free zones) that do. Obama wants to ban certain guns in America. Why doesn't he want to ban bulldozers in Israel...or land mines in Afghanistan...or war everywhere? If children are worth protecting, ALL children are worth protecting! I am sick of political posturing by our warmonger leaders.

  6. I dont understand what doesnt make sense here. Unless the facts in that video are incorrect, what is there to dispute? It seems we have a knack of taking something that has been proven in other countries to be a failure, and think that we can do the same thing here and make it work. You know what it is when you do the same thing expecting different results?

  7. I hurt inside for a number of reasons. First for the people that were lost in this tragic killing and the innocent people we have lost in the past to the same situation. The killing of innocent people goes so against my thought process, I find it hard to understand. Second I hurt for this country, for no other time in the past do we seem adrift as now, energy, jobs, health care and gun control. It seems it's always a battle to get to where you want to go. You are supposed to look up to the people that lead you and guide you but now all they do trash each other to get the upper hand. I am a Dad, I am a hard working American, I am a Democrat, I am a gun owner and I hunt. Being a Dad I'm watching my two young daughters grow into something I could never imagine possible. Having a child is a blessing, it's a breath of new life in your sole. Then you look into their eyes and see all they have to endure. My 8 year old had to be sat down this week so we could talk to her about her feelings dealing with the shooting. I never remembered that growing up. My 13 year old the same thing but you can talk about a plan of action because they are of age. Republicans, Democrats, NRA the 2nd amendment, I really don't care. We all need to come together to pass some good laws, in the names of the the slain individuals. I don't want all guns banned. We need to educate, train and if need be register gun owners. We need to find some common ground where we can all be proud and say we are Americans!!!!! You can poke holes in this any way you like, i just needed to write it and share.

  13. I am for certain changes. I have no interest in ARs or similar firearms. But I don't agree that they should be banned. Like Doc I believe that we should get rid of the state to state laws and institute a Nationwide law with more thorough background and mental health checks, before anyone can obtain a firearm of any kind. Some may argue that this will cause longer delays to getting a firearm but with today's technology it is easy to set up a computerized database containing the necessary information where licensed dealers can easily submit a person's information and get criminal background as well as mental health results within minutes. It's already done with long guns. It just needs to be more thorough. But then we have to consider how deep should they be allowed to go? I know that no matter what changes are made, they will not prevent the criminals from getting their hands on illegal firearms. But we need to start somewhere.

  14. I want change. I want the entire state by state gun control system scrapped, and replaced by a uniform national set of laws that go through each existing law, using very stringent criteria, to evaluate which ones really have proveable value. Those that don't pass muster simply get scrapped. No more state laws. No more duplicate laws. No more redundancy. No more nonsensical laws that are in place to only serve as harrassment of legitimate gun owners. Clean it all up with a goal of getting the whole mess down to a few pages of uniform, effective laws that apply across the country. Of course I am a realist and understand that this level of interstate cooperation will never happen. But that is the change that I want.

  16. I would like a change....starting with throwing out the useless ones on the books they either don't enforce or that do nothing to enhance public safety. I wouldd also like crazy stiff laws for those using a firearm in ANY crime. Like life in a box or Death sentence.

  17. I decided to go sit in a spot on a creek bed. Walking in, i was kicking deer out everywhere, and kicked 6 up the ravine towards where my fil was sitting. Had 2 run right by me. After about 20 minutes I hear him shoot. He calls me and says he cant find it, it was a doe. Well, where he sits, when they get winded, or just wander off, they run into a thicket, i told him to look in there, he found it. Then, i get another call, a 6 point coming my way. After an hour, About 4:15, here he comes, but this guy wasnt a 6, he was an 8. Shot him at 41 yards. First late muzzleloader buck kill in my life. Sweet.

  33. Sorry Doc, I think you are going soft. Pull up the big boy britches and Depends and deal with it. You might want to then get back on the rocker you fell off of. Is that what you want to hear? Does it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside Clark Griswold? Like rainbows and unicorns? There, is that better? Seriously Doc, relax. No harm was done by telling him in public he needs to get a better grasp on the English language. He appears to be a productive member and with a good head on his shoulders. Three people suggesting to him to improve is not something that requires a PM. It was relevant to the discussion at hand (debating a teacher for Pete's sake). You insinuate we are grammar police when that is clearly not the case. I did the kid a favor, as did Belo and Scott. Nobody wants him to fail - and I bet that speaks for both of them, too. Public shame would be calling him an idiot, moron, or some other negative connotation, and nobody has done that or likely will do that, because that's not the case. There's no ego here; you are telling yourself a story.

  35. The second amendment isn't about hunting or target shooting, it's about empowering the people to be able to defend themselves and hold back a government that is trying to oppress them. On that basis, civilians should be able to have any arms that the government has. That's the way it was when the decision was enacted, that's how it should be now. You can't stop an army armed with m16's, if all you have is a single shot.

  36. very much disagree with you. Putting a stand up on state land is similar to leaving your canoe on a state beach. Again, i wouldn't get in somebodies stand, but to let hell break loose if someone climbs in yours is a little silly to me.

  37. I'm willing to bet that this thread winds up with the fewest pages of entire firearms banning discussion. There is no way to dispute the failures of gun banning when you hear them in the words of those who have experienced it. This will be the thread that the gun control fanatics of this site will wish had never been posted and I am sure they will avoid it like the plague.....lol.

  38. Ok, it's been 4 pages since I requested that people try to give a complete list what new gun-laws they believe would provide the silver bullet to violent crime and mass killings. I thought it was a reasonable request so we could see exactly what the scope is of the new gun control measures being proposed. Apparently only one of these gun control advocates really has any idea of what they are actually proposing and that one only had a couple of ideas that most likely lack any real practicality. That includes the original author of this post that gave such an impassioned speech about how new gun laws were the only answer. My only conclusion has to be that all these people who have all of a sudden become gun control advocates are simply jumping aboard the gun control bandwagon even though they haven't got one single notion what it is that they are calling for. I'm not too sure how they can have any credibility when they don't even know what they are for. Well anyway, I tried to start a reasonable discussion, but there really doesn't seem to be any desire or ability to do that. It's pretty hard to have a discussion when nobody has defined what the discussion is really about. So, I guess these threads will simply remain a bunch of ranting about how an evil looking firearm should be banned. I guess that's what the whole thing boils down to. A modern sporting rifle has been deemed to look too much like an assault weapon and should therefore be outlawed. My gosh that really does sound absolutely ridiculous when you think about it.....lol.

  39. There isn't a real good reason for a patrol vehicle to be left running when the officer is out of it for extended periods of time and it should be shut off. The only exception to this would be K9 vehicles when its warmer than 65 or colder than 30 outside. Short stops like running into a store, out at a call, on a vehicle stop etc... the vehicle is left running for the convenience of being able to jump in and go and in reality the extra gas usage is minimal in these instances. You almost always see cruisers running when the officer is in them. The radio and other electronics draw incredible amounts of power. Solar panels and backup batteries are good ideas but also added costs and extra things that will most likely malfunction at one time or another taking the vehicle out of service and creating another repair bill. Besides if the vehicle is turned on and off as they should they aren't really necessary. Long story short, the vehicle at the post office probably should have been shut off while the officer watching the soccer game should have remained running.

  42. 10 yards x 10 yrds is still, way to small... 1-2 deer will wipe it out in 1 night or day... 40$ will let you plant 1 acre of trunips/clover;. food plots aren't hard. get round-up or simialr spray 10$ . spray area you want, rake/ burn off dead plant material so you have ground exposed.(just your time) plant turnip/clover mix 20$ and maybe you will have enought to hunt over! 1/4 - 1/2 an acre! The liming/fertalizing is nice to do if you can afford it , but it will grow as long as there is enough moisture/soil seed contact! anything you do is better than nothing!! just don't waste you money on a gimmik!

  45. I came here from Ireland, having lived in Ireland, The UK , and Spain. So I have first hand experience living in nations that don't allow public gun ownership. I can say that the criminals still have guns, there are still shootings, there have still been cases of mass murder (even in elementary schools) , there are also lots of bombings which kill MANY innocent civilians. So where did the gun bans get the people other than under the thumb of the criminals and the government.

  48. I prefer to fry it , but I have had good luck pickling it also. Simmer the heart in water with salt, coarse black pepper and a bay leaf until done, about two hours.. Allow the heart to cool in it's broth.. Slice the heart crossways about 1/4" thick...Slice an onion or two about the same thicknes. It a glass, ceramic or plastic dish alternate layers of heart and onion, seasoning with salt and pepper. Mix 50/50 vinegar and water and a tablespoon of pickling spices. Pour over heart and onion to cover.. Refrigerate for 3 or 4 days before eating..

  49. So glad there is such a united concern with the people and this country. Im sure glad you find it humourous enough to find the need to start a thread that effects ALL americans in such a manner. Apparently you have zero concern of how deeply this disturbs alot of us with him being relelected. Its obvious there is nothing to turn back time to fix the mistakes but one thing that does need to be addressed is uniting the people in this country. And this is a sure sad way to start off on a new page with a thread that tweeks the short hairs on so many people. I have zero faith in this president as his track record speaks for himself, but the least we can do is try to be optomistic, hope an pray for the change we were promised in 2008 and stand together as citizens of this country and stop the rediculous seperation, selfish bashing of others opinions, racism, for gods sake we are not a bunch of crazed cavemen. We are AMERICANS how about we all start acting like one and treat each other with respect we all deserve, move forward, work together, and show the world and most of all our children we can all prevail together. Its time to move on, grow up a little and respect each other. I know this election has weighed heavily on everyone myself included. I have many concerns and many fears moving forward for the next 4 years but damn it I refuse to let this eat at my everyday thoughts from here on out. It has greatly effected my attitude, my finances, the fear for my kids future, everything. There are many many people that feel the same way. Lets stick together from here on out shall we and stop the BS?
