I hit the roads last night for the first time this summer to scout some of the farms near my house that I have permission on. I came across two "deer" in a small green field on one of our better northern zone farms, but upon further examination through the binos, these were actually two great bucks! I knew they had impressive antler but with the sun fading my binos were letting very little light through and it was tough to see. I went out mid-day today and put a camera up along the corn that bordered the green field I found them in too see exactly what they were up too night and day. Sitting at home this evening around 7, I thought to myself, I bet those deer are using the field on the other side of the hedgerow, its bigger, just as lush, and better protected from human view. So I grabbed my mothers DSLR and hit the road. With a south wind I could glass the field from atop a small knoll and be protected by corn that was split 50/50 with the large greenfield. As I crested the knoll my suspicion proved true, the bucks were already out in the field at 7:30. I told my dad last night jokingly that I would call these bucks George & Ralphy; George being the light color'd velvet 8 pointer, and Ralphy being the dark velvet'd 9/10 pointer. Even with the cameras biggest lens zoomed all the way in, I still had to crop the pics to zoom them in some more so I apologize for the pic quality.3 points

So your saying that if you were able to put a corn feeder on your property you would be able to see and shoot trophy class deer on a yearly basis? I'm not arguing with you, but I think that the feeder is a very small part of the overall management plan on that farm, regardless of who is doing the labor.2 points

The government is getting involved in wildlife crimes in America and Africa so it can publicize game atrocities to the voting public. All part of a plan to encroach on hunting rights as much as possible and eliminate even more firearms owned by hunters, even though most poaching is done by people without hunting licenses. Pretty soon one little violation of a hunting law (like wearing blaze orange that isn't bright enough) and your right to hunt is taken away for life! So, you don't need those hunting guns anymore either, do you? ( I can already hear the laughter from the clueless, so don't bother saying I'm paranoid. I"M INFORMED!)2 points

Only 60 days till opening day and still have so much to do. I'm having a mini panic attack here as I think about the stuff I need to get done. Stands need to be checked and put up, still have to decide where they are all going to go. I have only seen one buck I would take and I didn't even see him on property I can hunt. My cams have been sitting for 3 weeks now. Hopefully they will give me a peek at what's roaming around. Anyone else having a freak out?1 point

Man on man these guys nailed this. Sure it's about a guy and his passion for bowhunting but there is a message here and this has gotta be the coolest film covering it. You be the judge but it truly inspired me even more. http://huntervids.com/videos/the-challenge-sitka-films/1 point

Just got a text from the wife... "Opening day is two months from today right?!" LOL. As if I would forget.1 point

That's a good choice of words .... "the kind of deer those guys make". There activities have more to do with animal husbandry than hunting. It has far less to do with what state it is, or what minerals are in the ground, than it does with what kinds of minerals they are fed and what kinds of food plots they are fed on. I will give them all kinds of credit for being great deer farmers, but great hunters?.....maybe not so much. Perhaps their time would be better spent raising their own Herefords or angus and then shooting them in the field. But then that wouldn't make for such a great TV show would it. Not to mention all the "hero" status they would lose.1 point

LMAO.....I think thats how my wife killed the last 2 I found them in the corn, with their hooves stuck in there ear1 point

If you plan on planting it back in corn next May I would plant winter rye. WR will give you some free Nitrogen which corn needs.1 point

No need to freak man....This is supposed to be fun! So what if you dont get EVERY stand hung that you wanted, you can still hang some after the season opens. I do it all the time. Just try to relax a bit and have fun...1 point

Some find it hard to accept change. The world of hunting has changed two fold and will continue to change. The old days were awesome times but there over and new changes are ahead. Makes ya wonder where hunting will be when we are gone? I have a pretty good idea!1 point

It's nice to see how hunting looks in other countries. Thanks for the pictures and the descriptions. It all sure doesn't look like an activity for those that aren't in top condition, but the scenery is absolutely spectacular.1 point

What a way to commercialize deer hunting just a little more. Welcome to "Lee & Tiffany's Deer Farm" We're just going to hold out for that 6.5 YO brute right there, you know, the one we have pictures of since he left the womb. Nice.........................................1 point

LOL that was pathetic. I like my shoulders enough to not even think about shooting something like that... 50 Cal is fun but the gun is so heavy the kick is not too bad... 30-06 is more than enough for me and I usually don't use that as it feels like over kill plus that is probably all I will ever need for power...1 point

Maybe these guys are starting to get the message. I have heard a lot of complaints on the standard run of the mill fakery and boring lack of creativity. Who knows ..... maybe they are starting to react to the criticisms. I hope so.1 point

No. ... For any given spine arrow... The longer the arrow the weaker the spine... Either way the arrows are close enough that it is highly unlikely that they are having any noticeable( esp..for a beginning archer) effect on accuracy.1 point

Right, the only possible intent for this could be to take away your guns. No chance that the government has any interest in preserving endangered species, protecting the economies of countries who depend on wildlife tourism, minimizing trafficking in illegal game, etc, etc. Simply another ruse to get your guns.1 point

I think hunting food plots is the same as hunting a corn field, soy field, apple orchard etc.. I really don't see the difference. Oh... and did I mention that food plots are 100% legal ? One thing that the anti food plot people don't realize is that a food plot doesn't equal a sure thing. In the past I have hunted food plots (and natural food sources) and not even seen a deer for days. I think some people paint a picture in their head of some dumb a$$ and his dumb a$$ buddies, who don't know how to hunt, throwing some seeds in the ground, that turn into plants that draw every deer in the county, to that one location.1 point
