  1. I posted in the "what other hobbies" thread that I am starting to get into some hobby blacksmithing. I figured I would post up and the work progresses. A little history. I have always thought is was very interesting and I remember as a kid wanting to spend time at the demonstrations whenever the family went to any historical period museums where they have characters living like they did in the day. Well needing one more hobby like I need ANOTHER hole in my head I did it anyway...lol. I did quite a bit of research and reading, joined an online forum that is world wide and spent hours reading there. I decided i would like to go the route of using a coal forge and that I wanted to build it myself. I pick up a damaged anvil from a member here and to my surprise my wife got me another one that is in very very good shape. I picked up a post vise too. So then I was in possession of the 3 main tools of a smith. I have to make everything fairly portable because I will basically be doing it in my driveway and will need to put everything away in the garage after each use. And (and this is a very big AND.) I need to keep the garage open enough so my wife can park in there during the winter. So as of this date the forge is built and I have run two fire in it so far. I am focusing on tooling and developing my techniques for now, but I want to dive into some blade making down the road. I'll try to keep this as kind of a diary of the progress and welcome comments and critiques. This is the forge completed. it has a variable speed electric motor and will reach forge welding temps with ease. You can see a couple tools for tending the fire that I made on the first day. A poker, a rake and a few hooks to hang on the forge table. I don't have a picture yet but on the second day I made my first set of tongs to handle the materials better than a pair of vise grips. I also made a rack for the anvil stump to hold all the hammers within easy reach.

  2. Does anyone want to guess why he is doing this now? It can be summed up in 2 words. Safe Act. Everything in here is already I the safe act already. When the safe act was thrust down our throats, it was a trial to see if it would!d hold up. Our king Andy was promised a shot at the white house. Well now2 years later, residents have become so complacent, they expect little resistance. As most sat on their collective butts, they waited to see what would happen. Well this is the result.

  5. I didn't see many saying NOT to use it. Like a bow or any weapon. There are limitations. If you accept them, understand them and select a suitable bullet then have at it.

  10. Well..... lets state the obvious here...If I was biting my tongue not to say what those thoughts were...Saying them now ...only leaves me with a sore tongue...Now that would make no sense to me at all. I will say yet again ,it had nothing to do with what is floating around in Robs, Vigils ,Shawnu's(based on his "likes") or even perhaps your head. There are many things, actually...that could be done and none of them have anything to do directly with Obama . No I won't hold your hand and guide you though them. Now lets point out one more obvious thing...My OP that started this whole 8 page discourse has developed a dialogue , for the good or the bad of it...given perspectives ...ideas..information excreta...All despite the absolute pointless and fruitless post of a couple of people...To that end I'm pleased

  11. I have never believed that the death penalty should be use as a form of vindication, retribution, or vengeance... it should be used only to eliminate that individual from ever being a threat to society again. In my Opinion...Hatred is no reason to kill in any capacity.

  12. He has trying to make the no fly list a means of taking away guns. They can put anyone on the no fly list just because basically they "feel" like it. Sorry culvercreek I didn't realize you said the same thing.

  13. The only problem I have with the death penalty is it isn't severe enough for the scum of the earth that are sitting on death row. I would be ok with the death penalty for more things too....Rape, child molestation etc. If your family member is murdered and there is clear proof of who did it that family that is already grieving shouldn't have to wait years to put their torment to rest. Our ridiculousness of our society has given criminals more rights than the free people. The scum of the earth that escaped from the prison upstate this summer is clear proof of this. How they are not just sitting in a freakin jail rotting is beyond me. Then we find out that guards aren't even aloud to shine a flashlight in their cell at night??? Give me a break....Your right to a goodnights sleep or anything other than a bed, toilet and meals was checked when you did the crime. (I would be ok with hard floor and a bucket)Deal with it...but no....now they can get a free college education while they are in jail.....who the heck comes up with these idea's..??

  15. IRS targeting, Benghazi obstruction, bypassing Congress, stripping . The wording of this last EO 1 ,2 or more firearms pose infindgement of the 2nd Amendment. He sits back while NY citizens are stripped of 2nd Amendment rights, it makes him guilty along with coumo. Just because it passed doesn't make it right, but its part of his agenda. 19. Holy crap dude, while I am not on here complaining about all the stuff going on right now. I do believe you need to question and hold the government accountable. If not, it is a very slippery slope. It is our job to question the government in everything they do. They work for us, not the other way around.

  29. BigGuyNy There is nothing in the law that says you can't have ammunition shipped to an FFL. It is a choice made by some internet retailers & it is BS. This is tantamount to propaganda on their part! These are people that SHOULD be doing everything they can to support your rights but instead they are throwing a temper tantrum.

  36. Here's something that Americans fail to realize...We completely lost not 1 but 2 wars...Vietnam and the "war" on drugs. Now not counting the loss of life, money and taking a hit to being world top dog. Vietnam wasn't too bad a loss...The cluster we've made on the "war" on drugs has made things not only worse here but in several other countries as well. That's a big loss...Now I won't even get into the past 15 yrs or even the present with ISIS. Words fail in describing that "bunging". This "war" on guns will make the "war" on drugs look like loosing a summer days game of pick up sticks. The consequences will be felt world wide in the end. Now think that statement extreme or unreal..? Then you are on par with the rest of the short sighted and historical blind people of this country and Europe.

  42. Some interesting stats for you. There are over 32000 deaths from vehicles annually in the US and about 33000 deaths annually caused from firearms in the US. Of those 33000 60% of them are suicides. Would those 19800 people commit suicide in another fashion? But think about this, In the US you can get a drivers license from the age of 14 to 17 depending on the state you live. In the US you can legally purchase a long gun at age 18 and a hand gun at age 21 of course all dependent on the Gov. I think it would be fair to say that gun deaths would be around 13200 if you discount suicides who feel the need to end there life, which are going to end it with or without the gun. 32000 vs 13200. I would agree with you on this, the Gov has discounted all deaths unrelated to a firearm for the sole purpose that it indeed Obama feels guns are a threat to his "government oppression and his wanton tyranny". If his concern lies directly with human life he would be much better off addressing suicides and vehicle related deaths and try to save 45200 people a year in the US than 13200. The US population is over 318 million excuse my math but if Im wrong but .0001% of the population is killed with a firearm annually. I dont mean to sound like these lost lives mean nothing because its quite the opposite of that, however as stats go and the problems we have in this country the agenda this so called President has is way off in left field. Not to even mention our Founding Fathers, The Constitution and all the men and women who have sacrificed while carrying a firearm to protect this country. He is the saddest form of any president to date and hope damn well Americans wake up and he is the last of his hate America stance that sits in the Oval Office. This isnt "MERICA" or "Murica" that I see being written and I hear being said daily people. This is AMERICA. The 10th amendment says Reinforces the principle of federalism by stating that the federal government possesses only those powers delegated to it by the states or the people through the Constitution. So why are we giving this government the power?

  43. The genie is out of the bottle ..... lol. I knew the crossbow was just the beginning. Technology knows no bounds. Just look at todays compound bows for proof of that. Bow season started with a bent stick and string. Now look at it. I warned of every addition to bow season setting new precedents for the next. I can only repeat that warning.

  47. Sat in a stand in between 2 thickets where I keep a shooting ~200 yard shooting lane mowed down. There's several crabapple trees alongside this lane and the bucks have a few scrapes in it also. Hoped I could catch a buck traveling the lane, checking out the bordering thickets. I saw a big bodied deer step out into the lane ~120 yards away. I grunted twice. He picked his head up to look, then started galloping towards me! He stopped by 3 scrapes on the way to me and put on the best show I've ever witnessed! He looked like a rototiller going at those scrapes! LOL Dirt, leaves, and grass flying up 5' in the air, lowering his back to rub urinate, and standing on his hind legs to aggressively work the licking branch at every scrape! The way he was galloping directly towards me, I was wondering how I was going to get him to turn broadside! Not gonna lie, the show he was putting on had me shook! LOL Right after working the scrape at 25 yards, as if right on cue, he turned broadside and posed for me! He went ~100 yards and dropped.
