  1. Went to my friend's property in Walworth to check 2 trail cams . I pulled a card from the TC I have by a ditch and was checking it out to see what I had . As I was looking at the pics , I heard a crack , looked over my shoulder and had a doe looking at me about 30 yards away . She stood there for a few seconds and then bolted . Thought that was pretty neat .

  2. Brilliant 15 second ad from the Trump folks! Absolutely brilliant, and he hasn't even started the head-to-head campaign yet.

  3. You should go run on a Democratic ticket. That line of thinking got us the Safe Act. and reduced capacity magazines, the banning of common platforms that have no functional difference than other semi rifles and ammunition background checks. So I go to a gun auction or even a store and there is great sale, why should I have to miss it? I have bought two in one day before, gun shows. (YES with background checks) There is a special election to fill Skelos' seat on April 19th I think. If the Republicans loose that seat hold on to you nickers for microstamping to come back . THEN try to by a semi pistol in this state.

  4. If you replace the line go W/a 6wgt weight forward line. Always best to err on the heavy side when in doubt. A 5 or 6wgt outfit is a good starting point. It's the weight of the line that makes the leader turn over & present the fly W/O a lot of slack. The bigger the fly, the heavier line you need to overcome wind resistance.

  5. I see all of these "assault weapon" laws as illegal force used against otherwise law abiding people to coerce compliance with a desire by the government to control thinking. It's preventative law. They are criminalizing citizen's they believe have the capability to commit "gun violence", even if it is a statistically remote possibility. To me, that is why these laws are completely unconstitutional and illegal. If that line of thinking escapes you, look at it this way. People often claim rights can be infringed upon for the safety of the public. An often cited example is not being able to yell "Fire" in a crowded theater. A restriction on 1st Amendment Free Speech rights to be sure. But every person in the theater possesses the ability to yell that word. It is only a crime that can be punished if they do use the ability to do harm. How then is it not an unconstitutional restriction on 2nd Amendment rights to deny mere possession of any commonly possessed firearm? How can the Supreme Court find such a restriction to be legal? In a country that follows the US Constitution and the Rule of Law, it cannot. But in a land where politicians have the desire to expand their power and bend the Rule of Law, to see it as malleable, flexible, and even corruptible when it suits their desires, with the assistance of activist judges and courts that exist via executive appointment to serve the will of the government, and not the people, it happens all too frequently. In all actuality, the founding fathers and those who wrote the US Constitution, with a desire to prevent the usurpation of power outlined above, would be shooting by now. Rights and freedoms are quickly disappearing from America because people are not willing to stand up to the tyranny. Once they have been voluntarily relinquished, they can never be regained. Our 2nd Amendment rights are merely the first casualty in a self imposed, self justified, loosing battle. God help our descendants!

  6. So, really what you are saying is " if I can't get opinions that aren't like mine, banned from this site, then I will label those opinions as bigoted, racist, hateful, and anti what ever I choose". Burn books much??? LOL!! You have lost all credibility.

  7. I do believe that both parties have some good ideas. Fiscally I'm conservative, socially I don't agree with bigots and bible thumpers. Separation of church and state were just as much a part of our nations beginnings as was the second amendment.

  8. This election is more about Judges for me than a 4 yr term president. Its going to set the tone for generations, we need to put conservative's on the bench. So we need to win in November. If you think we have it bad here in NY with Safe Act, imagine what's to come if Hillary wins. I think sending Garland a message that his past has caught up with him is justice. If we ever want a chance of getting heard and repealing safe act, we need to win.

  9. Garland is considered a 'moderate'. But he's still a moderate Liberal. He was appointed to the Federal bench by Bill Clinton, and he's now being nominated by Obama. Need I say more?

  12. I don't eat the varmints. however, there in is the problem of preventing other wildlife from getting to it. a deep dry hole filled in seems to be the only way and that's just not feasible every time I go shoot something. I've had shallow graves dug up at times. for wood chucks if I have reason to believe there's no other chucks in the hole i'll toss it back in and fill in the hole. otherwise, I try to at least throw it in a hedgerow or bushes at the field edge. something like a coyote will probably find it and gorge on the spot. at least birds of prey aren't finding it and spreading it over longer distances to bring some back to their nests. for turkey I already use non-lead shot. I'm getting into reloading and will most likely load non-lead ammo for big game hunting to reduce cost and help ensure performance. some uses there's just no easy way around it though, that includes exposure and not just worrying about meat contamination that you or wildlife will be susceptible to.

Well...... You wont have to worry to much about the kids these days eating small game, doves, pheasant rabbit or many others killed with lead shot because there is not any to be had!

  16. Pressure is the key for all pot calling, I always hear how you can't make soft calls on a pot, I've made and heard calls so soft on a pot I can barely hear them, strikers and pressure no matter what surface your using. I can run a pot 1 handed with gun up on my knee, and have teased birds the final dew steps that way

  22. The season is almost over. Golden eagles are migrating. One site that is still operating has a bunch of birds feeding, including 2 we telemetered. This photo is the only one we have ever gotten 3 at one photo in NYS. They usually wait until another leaves. I really like the photo of the eagle chasing the coyote.

  24. This can be easily done by any Senate. It's a signal to the President to appoint someone that they can support. If a President keeps nominating Communists, Socialists or Terrorists, the Senate should never consider any of them.

  25. What I want to know is how do we go about REMOVING Supreme Court Justices for violating their oath to support and defend the Constitution? Some of the rulings are so obviously in violation of the written word in the Constitution, it's treason. If 5 Justices can find a "right" to gay marriage in the 14th Amendment, but not find an individual right to firearms ownership in the 2nd Amendment, those 5 Justices should be removed with extreme prejudice.

  27. I don't care about any of that. I demand the Senate NEVER confirm any Supreme Court nominee that has ever voted against the Constitution. I don't care what president nominates him, or when.

  28. A Judge hasn't been confirmed, during a lame duck term, in over 80 years. And while this nominee is considered a "moderate" people should look at his 2nd amendment record.

  31. I knew Garland was anti-gun and expected any nominee he (Obama) made to be anti-gun. Just think what will happen if Hillary gets elected and gets to pick the next judge(s). Can't say I agree with the republicans vowing not to have hearings on Obama's choice but think they should have the balls to say we are turning him down based on his outlook on gun control and just maybe the message would start to get through.

  32. Doc may be an example of how humans build up a resistance, or even an immunity, to lead if it is consumed in minute quantities over time. Maybe it works like vaccines, where a small amount of a virus will actually keep you from getting the disease. Many people over 50 were exposed to lots of lead in their youth and really haven't shown any verifiable evidence of harm. How do we know Doc is less of a person because of it? How do we know for certain he isn't more of a person because of it? Nobody has ever done any research on that so who knows for certain? Medical science is constantly revising things they were claiming to be absolutely certain of in the past. With all of the things that threaten humans today, from war and terrorism to invasive diseases, a concern about lead ammo is just far down my list of worries.

  33. This debate is in some ways is Rorschach test. For some it is about poisoning eagles and other wildlife. Those concerned about human health see something else. The single-issue 2nd Amendment guys see it as a threat. I had one guy tell me it was all right to use copper bullets for better performance but it was not acceptable to discuss the food chain and wildlife issues. Doc - Like so many others who argue against using less toxic alternatives, your rhetoric is overblown. 4S says mutations. You are calling the incremental affects on small children "tragic health disasters". I too have been eating small game and venison most of my life. I would never consider that the lead may not have impacted me. Like you, I grew up around cars spewing lead, lead paint and lead solder in the plumbing. Neither of us knows what would have been if we had not had that lead in our system. There is no doubt that lead is bad, and especially so for children. So WHY, do you and others try to diminish these concerns by intentionally exaggerating them? Knowing what you know, if you had a toddler now, would you feed it small game with lead pellets in it?

  35. Yes. Sherman had an entire campaign devoted to Georgia. He came through this state like a fiery tornado, burning entire cities in his passing. I look for places where the retreating confederates took a stand before fleeing again. That's where the goods are.Although, I have found a few small union camps as well. 37. It's one of the best times of the year to get started on the next deer season. You can still see last years rubs and scrapes. No heat and skeeters while moving stands or building blinds near the newly dicovered hot spots. The woods look the same now as they will this November, for clearing shooting lanes. One thing is certain, this time of year. There is never a shortage of things to do!

  40. It's a short process between ten and two, closer to ten than two! In other words the rod should t move very far at all, do not break your wrist, and slow down. Feel the rod load, bring it forward, and stop and let it "fire" that line just like a bow firing. Remember, ten to two on the clock face. Don't drop it behind you and don't let that rod tip get anywhere near parallel to the water

  43. Every year we have a few roughlegs, but this past winter only one. He was there early and hung around into February and then was gone. The colder and snowier the winter, the more roughlegs, the warmer, the fewer. Last year we had a couple mature bald eagles, this year we only had a juvenile.
