The ol' toms finally caved in and got tired of the young guys getting all the girls. The woods were ALIVE with gobbles from every direction this morning. When the sun finally broke over the horizon, I managed to pull this group in for some quick snaps. Had a beautiful sunrise this morning, but that quickly gave way to early morning cloud covered skies which really hurt the quality of this set of shots. C'mon Sunday!!!11 points

I'm Hunter, Kurt's son. I'm 13 & this was my first turkey. We got him this sunday at our camp in Naples. This is my second year of turkey hunting, but I've been going with dad for a lot of years. Last year we had a lot of birds around us but I messed up two shots. I felt bad for wounding a bird. We were both really looking forward to this season. Saturday at a neighbor's hill we call the murderhorn, we had four toms calling on the roost, but they shut up when they landed. We never got them to talk again that day. Sunday morning at the same place, we had two toms lock up at about 100yards in a field. Gobbling and strutting, but they wouldn't come the rest of the way. Then a guy and his son moved in on us and spooked them. We were surprised to see them and they ran when dad called out to get there attention. Then we went back to our land and got into our spot around ten fifteen. Dad called a little but nobody answered. I fell asleep. Dad woke me up and there was a fox standing in front of us. A few minutes later dad said he saw a turkey cross the path aways out. I thought he was joking, but then I knew he was serious by the sound of his voice. There turned out to be three birds. A tom and two jakes. They fed around us for ten minutes, but too far and not clear. Finally they started to move closer. The tom split off from the jakes and came up the trail our decoy was on but he ignored her. The jakes had gotten around behind us but dad said to ignore them or we would be busted. When the tom got around 35 yards, dad said to get him. So I shot and he went down, but started to flop away. Dad jumped and ran after him, but fell on his face over a old wire fence. His call striker went flying out of his pocket and a log hit him in the guts so he took a second to get up and I was scared the tom would get away. I decided to go out there to help. Dad caught him though and jumped on him. They fought for a few seconds, until he stopped flopping. I was so excited! This was the exact tree I had missed from last year and last year dad lost his striker too, running out after the bird. We looked for it, but couldn't find it. Dad said a striker for a turkey was a fair price and that he had another one anyway. He said from now on we will call that tree the redemption tree.9 points

If Clinton becomes President, all semi-auto firearms will be banned, just like was done in England and Australia. That will happen as soon as she packs the Supreme Court with activist anti-gun judges who hate the 2nd Amendment. Then they will begin an attack on handguns, pump action long guns and lever guns. They will follow the lead of the two countries cited above. Don't think so? You're part of the reason they will do it.5 points

Not an entry but a good hunt.Last weekend I went turkey hunting for the first time. My uncle Al and I spent the night at Mr Greg's house. He had alot of antlers on the wall and even a bear! The next morning I was woken up by my uncle saying he broke my glasses. We fixed them with glue, tape, and a rubberband. I thought I put them away before I went to bed. I got ready by putting on my hunting gear, and out the door we went. It was hard not stepping on any sticks on the way to out hunting spot. It was hard because it was dark. While watching the sun rise learned that turkeys fly!! I had only seen a wild turkey one other time . They were in a cage at a fishing derby that my uncle Al took me to. They just had a large stick to climb on and didn't fly. Anyways, while I was watching the sunrise, I noticed that there was a turkey in the tree in front of us..he flew into the tree after only one call. Greg was in against the tree behind us calling the birds. After he stopped calling,a hen almost landed IN My LAP! There was another one that I was waiting to shoot but my uncle thought it was probably too far away for me.. All together we had a really fantastic hunt even though I didn't get a bird. We saw an adult turkey , and saw and heard a few gobblers. I even saw a Jake with a weird middle feather that stuck up in the center. Although the hunt was long, cold and a little boring..i enjoyed hunting with my uncle Al and Mr Greg. -olivia hirschbine4 points

More like the kid is exposing things he's heard from his circle of leftists and their plans to implement it. Does anyone believe gun grabbers haven't thought of this already? They work 24/7 coming up with ways to destroy all gun ownership. Their big problem is the 2nd Amendment and it's enumeration of gun ownership as a right. Does that mean that right can't be taken away? Heck no. It just means the attackers have to be creative and get a majority of the public to support their cause. Don't worry about the messenger. Hear the message. Blowing it off because the messenger doesn't concern you wouldn't be very wise.3 points

100% chance of rain Sunday. Not entirely pleased. Hopefully birds hit field mode and rely on sight as rain will dampen their hearing for predators. Sounds good on paper.3 points

When I hear someone say they aren't trying to take your guns, I laugh. Then I say, "They're not trying to take your 1st Amendment freedom of speech either."3 points

Had to share my excitement. Ordered exactly what I wanted from black widow and she shoots as good as she looks. So happy with it. The deer should be afraid, very afraid. Lol And not too shabby for a 58" hunting bow:2 points

Hello everyone. I just received my results from whitetail institute on the soil sample I sent to them using their test kit you can buy from them or cabelas/other stores. Just figured I would post up my results in case anyone was wondering about their test kits and what their report back would look like. Overall very simple and quick process. I mailed the sample Monday morning and they received Wednesday...had my results Thursday afternoon in my email. I think the layout of the results is easy to read and well suited towards our needs for wildlife food plots. Great investment for anyone thinking of doing food plots! I don't know how you can assume this guy is a nobody with an off the wall message. His message has been reprinted and circulated by the HuffPost. That means they are trying to give it some traction. The good thing is most people see the HuffPost as a fluff organization anyway, but there are plenty of people who think they circulate real "News" and trust their opinions. I see a couple of guys on this site quoting them to try and reinforce their debates. Some people read what they print, believe it, repeat it and continue to do so until lots of fools think it's fact. That's the real danger of the internet, but it hasn't stopped liars and politicos from forcing this kind of idiocy on us in the past. Tell a lie often enough and people begin to believe it's true. Hell just look at the lies that have been repeated over and over by people like Obama and the Clintons. There are millions of fools who currently believe them.2 points

There aren't many bars geared towards the outdoors anymore, at least in my area. And who goes to the few that are left? You buy your 6 pack or w/e, go home, fire up the phone, other device, or PC/Mac and type. It's mainly social media. Why? It's easy. It also allows the anti's to get involved without talking their BS face to face.2 points

"Those That Be" are not just politicians, they are all the people who want to completely destroy the Constitution all together. Big money corps, drug and arms dealers who have been able to stay under the wire and are held as upstanding citizens. I just thought of something while typing this...... They are banning ( or making them be modified ) assault rifles because ( sarcasm here---------> ) "Ohhhh, they are scary looking!". But, any semi auto rifle in the right hands can do just as much damage, just have switch the clip more.2 points

I do practice as I hunt. In light rain, varying wind and light conditions. Practice in crosswinds or into the wind, is always done at short yardage 20 yards or less. Just like hunting will be in those conditions.2 points

I posted this in the "gunmageddon" thread... An attempt to further CA's 'Gun Violence Restraining Order' beyond 'the concerned family member': http://www.breitbart...ker-complaints/ If you don't like your neighbor, co-worker, boss, employee, customer, etc, find an anti-gun judge and you can have law enforcement break down their door in the middle of the night and take their firearms posthaste. Bill of Rights be damned.2 points

Drawing a bull tag in PA would be pure luck, but the state has proven the RMEF knows what it's doing. Sure there are plenty of huge bulls in people's back yards now, but PA is working to change that. PA made the mistake of using the elk to draw tourists more than reintroducing them as wild animals in the wilderness that could be hunted. If you have ever been in the PA Wilds area, you wouldn't feel taking a bull elk there would be so easy.2 points

My hunting buddy called tonight to ask if I'd be interested in tracking again. He has a line on a good bloodline wirehaired dachshund. Her name is Xena and she is 9 months old. Both our tracking dogs died a few years ago after long lives doing what they loved to do. So we got away from blood tracking. Not sure if we will be under the Deersearch banner this time around. But will be independent and track for local hunters. Guess I better start getting in shape.1 point

Tom Coughlins sister bought her building lot off my father in law , her husband is Toms best friend , he would tell me stuff about the team , but I had no,idea as I don't follow football. A past QB ,Collins lives in Nashville and my Nephew is friends with him. My nephew has a players pass to the Titans as he's friends with one of their players too, idk maybe someday I'll take him up on an offer to go to a game . I'll say Tom Coughln is a class act , one of our Firefighters retired after 30 years in the hood, Bronze Star from Viet Nam, quietly went to ground zero as well .He's a big Giant fan , Tom sent him a ball signed by the whole team and a letter the made a couple hundred macho FF well up at the retirement party . Go,Giants !1 point

I just had a thought. How many of you guys would buy a rifle that shoots by itself? If it did everything for you when hunting after you put it to your shoulder, like align the cross hairs for the perfect shot at any range and even knew if there was a twig in the way, while it set off the round at the perfect time to make a perfect heart shot, would you want it? Would you feel completely confident that it's reliability was absolutely certain when the shot at the trophy buck of a lifetime presented itself? Would you trust it after it had an accident and got banged pretty bad? Would you count on it with total faith? Not me.1 point

You're in luck. I love a good fight. So, please enlighten me, oh wise one, as to how you could possibly even speculate as to what the local biologist, or myself, know.1 point

Simplicity, self reliance, dependability, ease of repair, low cost, proven track record, durability...... All things new technology, especially computer driven cars, are lacking. I prefer reliable simplicity to complicated technology. I work on my own vehicles, up to the point of the technology that prevents it. That gives me a sense of comfort. I would have even more comfort with a vehicle that has very little, or no technology that can't be easily fixed or depended on. I've also heard that computers in cars can be hacked and taken over. I'm not cool with that. Any of you guys know what an EMP is? If, for whatever reason, an EMP effects this land, your newer cars filled with technology, will be useless and beyond repairable. My old pickup will be fine. And if you think that's not something to worry about, call the state department of homeland defense and ask them if it's a real threat. BTW, the same goes for your gun safe if it has an electronic lock. Mine does not. Believe what you like, but I think it's better to have some foresight, just in case. I'm not losing anything and possibly gaining a lot, without it costing me anything.1 point

Do any of you know how many cars out there now are drive by wire? The backbones for all of this are already in most of the cars out there, you just dont realize it. As far as "big brother watching you" goes. Your already driving around with GPS enabled devices in your pockets. If they want to track you, they are already doing it. Self driving cars arent a step in any government control direction. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, the fight against technological progress is a losing battle. I wouldnt mind the things as long as they give you the option to drive yourself if you wish.1 point

The trouble is, this thinking is out there, this guy just put it in writing and the HuffPo is giving it some exposure. We best start giving it some attention. It may sound utterly ridiculous but I'll bet this will be another legal front gun owners will be assaulted on eventually. Remember, the Constitution is already invalid according to the activist judges on the left.1 point

I think turkey are very aware with everything going on above them, sometimes more-so than what's happening down on the ground at their level. I was watching some birds out in the field the other day when a vulture shadow suddenly appeared to be chasing them to the edge of the woods. Those birds had their eyes glued to the sky until they identified it as harmless and made their way back into the open. From a hunting point of view. I've been picked off in a stand by MANY fall turkey while bow hunting. Spring turkey hunting from a stand just doesn't appeal to me in the least. I'd rather have them gobblin' and spittin' in my face no matter how much harder it is to remain motionless and hidden.1 point
