  1. Stopped using them after I learned my arrow was not flying properly, imbalanced. I could have evened it out but it was just easier to use with out for me as I pass most deer anyway.
  2. Just don't forget to remove it at the end of the season before spring thaw out! Good job, looks like the drag will be 10 times easier now! Good luck hope that is covered in red by the end of this year!
  3. 8 will be in the high 130's might even brake 140! Not sure about the other one as pics show he still has more to grow. I would think the 10 would be in the mid 140's. Both look like 3 year olds and both are shooters, good luck with them! Get out early season to get a shot at them as they will change patterns.
  4. I would imagine they are irresistible to them at this point! Just starting to ripen?
  5. You SUCK! lol just jealous. I have 17 days left for the year. Think I will get some time opening day, late October but I always miss this time getting called back into work. Then the big Adirondack trip early November. Should leave me with 2 days left for the year possibly taking off thanksgiving or late season for tracking. Larry I hope your shoot a slob opening day and have 2 months to gloat about it! Good luck!
  6. Check that shaft you hit! If its damaged bad DON'T Shoot it! When they brake they tend to go into your bow arm and would end your season! Not worth risking your arm for one 10-15$ arrow. I twist and turn the shaft then give it a good bend to see if it will snap, better off braking in my hands vs shooting it and braking. Guy at the range shot a bad shot into the ground then the next time he shot that arrow it broke off into his bow arm! Now he wears a protective glove on his bow arm. Be careful!
  7. I have taken the course multiple times. Now they keep records so you do not have to keep taking it every few years. Did my last one years ago when they first started giving out cards and keeping records. They required it in NY for riding a jet ski back in 2005 I think that is the year I renewed it. From NY boaters web site. Q. What is the "New York Boating Safety Certificate"? A. A. The New York Boating Safety Certificate (mistakenly referred to as the New York license) is proof of successful completion of an approved New York Safe Boating course. The Boating Safety Certificate must be carried with you whenever you are operating a powered watercraft to avoid high fines. Q. Do I have to get the New York Boating Safety Certificate? A. If you were born on or after May 1, 1996, you are required to successfully complete a state approved course and obtain a boating safety certificate to operate a motorboat. Additionally, all persons, regardless of age, must complete a Boating Safety Education Course in order to operate a PWC on NYS waters. The required boating safety certificate must be carried at all times while operating the boat.
  8. I am looking into a new video camera, would really like to get some good video this year. Looking forward to early mornings as last year I was a lazy bum in the AM and it cost me 3 bucks, did not really care because I already got my ADK buck so anything else was a bonus. Two where in the 140 plus range so it was a wake up call for me to get out of bed early this season! Real goal is to get my hunting partner into a buck up in the ADK, hard for me to give him advice as he is very smart about deer hunting but never seems to get any good luck with spotting them. Get better with my climber in the dark so I want to use more often, been sitting in my attic for years! Might actually put up some ladder stands this year as well just need to get it into a location it will not get stolen.
  9. Very cool, good luck with him!
  10. 1st pic is great, second not so much. Really need a clear pic of the lower deer. I would say no based on the left front leg, white patch is a bit off. Probably the same genes. Second factor. Age: If that was a 2.5 in the first pic I think he would look larger in the newer pic but that is not the case even though it is a larger racked deer and probably older 3-4 range. Also a profile would be better to age the top buck, hard to see the back, stomach and arch in that pose.
  11. Wow! Looks like the golden owl from Clash of the Titans, 1981, showing my age! Amazing Wooly!
  12. We have our 10th annual bow hunter rendezvous this Sunday August 11th. FREE!!! Starts at 9 AM all are welcome, bagels for breakfast along with lunch, hot dogs and burgers etc. You can shoot the course for free after! Where to hunt, tracking, calling, deer sign and shot placement will all be covered. Come on down for a great day of exchanging knowledge and insight on bow hunting deer. All are welcome and experienced hunters are always welcome to add there input and stories to the mix! If anyone does come from the forum be sure to say hello! I will be doing the deer calling. Experienced hunters bring your calls to show how YOU do it! Excited for the season!!! Jeff Calderone
  13. Finally fixed some of my issues with shooting. Feeling much better in my form and follow through. Doing a seminar at Suffolk Archers this weekend for the bow hunters Rendezvous. I will be doing the calling section again. Getting pumped!
  14. Weigh the broadheads. I usually notice they are slightly heavier than field tips. (All are suppose to be 100 grain.) The collapsible BH usually shoot much closer to field tips vs fixed. One of the reasons I stick with relatively small cut diameter broad heads is they are usually close to my field tips. Any adjustment is usually minor if the bow is in tune. When bow is tuned right I usually notice only a slight difference from broadheads and no difference in tips.
  15. If you plan on doing that I would hook up with another person for a few reasons. 1 view: It's much easier to see more than one person on the water for other boaters so they do not run you over! 2 safety: Much safer with 2 people in case you run into bad weather or flip in the middle. 3 practice: If you plan on doing this it is possible but I would do a few test runs where you are covering the same if not more miles without crossing so you are use to traveling that far. Mabe LIPA to Cold spring or to Nessequogue and back. 4 Weather : Make sure it is good and try to do it when you have a favorable return wind. Usually our wind is out of the NW so going early in the morning and coming back with good wind will make the return trip easy. Good luck!
  16. Been working on my bow form, had some target panic issues and have been dropping my arm after the shot. Looking forward to opening day! Have a Brotherhood for the fallen shoot this weekend to benefit the widows of our fallen police officers. Hope to keep my form together for the entire shoot! (I tend to get lazy when I don't really focus!) More shoots coming if anyone is interested! Check our calendar for dates. www.suffolkarchers.com
  17. Subscribed to so many as a young gun I find most articles I like to read (Usually about deer.) are simply going over the same things. Read so many in the 80's-90's that by the time the internet became popular and I started using it in 2000 I had learned most of what I needed for hunting. U-Tube probably was the last straw as now I could actually see what others had been talking about when it was something I had never seen or experienced. Still looking for a good doe in heat video with vocalizations. I should ask our local deer farmer if he has any? Where is Fourseasonwhitetail! (If you do start another thread as I don't want to derail!)
  18. Love the camo pattern! Looks like a new pattern is needed! The butterfly effect! Or Moth, depending on your preference. Virginia creeper pattern!
  19. Trying to but you are way ahead of me! Been lifting some weights in the AM, need to do some cardio! Keep it up that is awesome!
  20. Beauty of a buck, congrats!!!
  21. And if you really want to do it in style get a foot pedal Hobie, the seats in the first models sucked but it did go faster and more stable than most other yaks. Still have mine! Hobie outback I think. 4 pole holders!
  22. Brake cleaner, gas, bleach all remove the oil well but are not very good for your blood to take in and it will! It does work good but is it worth it? I did gas one time and it did help but I still had to treat it for a few days. Some remedies are good in the short term and bad for your health in the long term. Be careful!
  23. Don't forget to wash your bed sheets and any clothes worn during the activity! I do the sheets at least once a week when this happens and try to keep my infected areas covered to prevent spreading especially when sleeping. Best thing to remove it naturally is salt water just don't take a shower after, the salt dries it up. Rubbing alcohol helps remove the oil, I use a spray bottle the first 3-4 days before applying treatment usually after a shower or scrubbing.
  24. Crazy how the people who SEEM to be the happiest (They always smile.) are the ones fighting the biggest battles. First responders including nurses and Doctors and Police go through and deal with some of the worst issues in society yet some try to handle things on there own when they really need help or sometimes just someone to talk through the issues. Wish I had the opportunity to help some of my closest friends before they choose this path! Remember someone is always here to help and listen, you are not alone. World needs more like her!
