Typically the area close to roads, farms or residential I find are big doe areas especially if you see a lot of sign. If you're just looking for any deer these are good spots to scout then set up properly, you can do this from your stand during season but is best to do it well before so you don't spook them. Not a bad idea to have one deep for early morning but remember if you have many people in the woods they like to come out for lunch and can push deer towards the front of the property when coming back, often this is around lunch time. Camera's are great if you get them in the right spot with no detection from the prey to give more information as stated above. I don't think the deer always go deep when the shooting starts, more often I find them in thick cover where most hunters don't like to venture in like a big swamp or thick brush. Find the connecting area from those spots to food sources and usually you will see deer. Good point NCountry on patterning people! Good luck, hope you get the big one!

My enthusiasm for hunting this year is well not very enthusiastic
NFA-ADK replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
I have had ups and downs with deer hunting, last year was a down year for me for a few reasons. One thing I really do enjoy is watching that sun rise and set and simply thinking about life and nature. Just seeing deer makes me happy, probably why I don't shoot them so much but simply enjoying the woods and some good company sometimes gets your mind off bad things and back on track with being optimistic an in the right frame of mind. Good luck this year, get out and enjoy, never know how many years you have left so take advantage while you can and get out! One of my goals is to try and get a new friend a deer this year, I have found more enjoyment from teaching and helping others than actually taking one for myself. Sometimes all it takes to get you back into it is one good day in the woods, good luck, hope you get out often! -
44 Mag in Model 94. Hope the glasses help and I can bring it this year. Sure did not matter with the bow!

Personally the risk is not worth my health, I have done enough damage to this poor body. No need to punish it more. It is starting to fight back, any more and it might revolt! How long ago did you treat your clothes? And how did you treat them. I hang about 4 sets of clothes in garage then basically use 2 big bottles on everything including socks, underwear, boots face mask etc. and I soak them. If it stays warm by November I redo everything again. I also tape socks and sleeves if I am really cautious, but that is rare unless I know I will be going through thick cover. I am also very observant and try to avoid ANY branch or protruding vines/limbs along the path, easy on a trail, no so easy off. This is also a very active time for ticks. Pulled on off me this year after a scouting even at the club freaked me out at 3:30 am! Dog tick but still freaks me out!

Shot the elite ritual so much I wore through the D-loop. Time to go back to the Helium for a while.

Congrats, great spot to finish!

Get into your PT for at least 2 weeks before you think about pulling a bow back and ask the doc if its ok. I have not had shoulder surgery so I am just speaking from experience with PT. I would think you would need at least one month before attempting a draw!

Direct link. WOW!!!

It was ok but nothing great. B rated movie gets a B minus.

Reflection! Tomorrow(At the same time.) it will be a bit different but same reflection if it is from the house, car or truck reflection might not show again like that.

Shame I use to like shopping at those stores, have not been back since this all started.

Heavier arrows are usually thicker and last longer, I think the accuracy is just you. I have shot many arrows and usually it is not the arrow causing the miss or laps in grouping. Confidence alone can get you better groups provided your form is good.

Awesome, always loved the scenery in that area, congrats on getting all hikes in that is a lot of miles!!!

Have not put the bow down except for the past week, swollen ankle has me out for a week now, I will pick up the bow again tonight when I do the last seminar on deer hunting at Suffolk Archers. Love the new Ritual from Elite, I can hold the draw for 5 minutes plus if I have to with no issues. Still have the Helium and will keep that as a spare because it is slightly smaller and shoots just as well, slightly slower but is a great bow and keeps my form good. Think I am giving up on shooting dots with the field shoots, my eyes are getting worse and trying to use glasses is not working for me, might be the brown tint messing me up but at 600$ a pair I will have to wait to purchase another. Having issues seeing the pin in dim light with glasses at least without them I see the pin ok.

Happy B-Day!

Good luck and be safe!

Too many times a deer pops up by me with no sound, most times I am ready, except when the big buck comes in lol. Murphy's law! I always try to have it ready if not in my hands and close by, always happens when you least expect it and the dam weapon is 3 ft away!

Real beauty, good luck with him.
