I think you got a real good deal. The last two bows I bought I got around this time of year. One at Dicks and one at Gander. I got Good deals on both of them. This is the time to buy one but the selection might not be all that great. If I had to guess I'd say that the stores want to get rid of last years stock to make room for this years stuff come Sept. Good luck with it.

When I used to do a garden I used Franks redhot, vinegar, water and some crushed garlic. Put it in an old spay bottle and mist the plants. It worked vey well. An old Italian guy gave me the recipe years ago. Last year my nephew had a problem with rabbits getting his pepper plants. He tried it and it worked for him too.

First-light... I'm truely sorry for your loss. I lost an old friend last month (he was my old time hunting buddy, of 30 plus years.) It will get easier. Just remember all the good times..God bless.

Anyone else have any problems with the birds being quiet?
ants replied to jake03's topic in Turkey Hunting
I have noticed a big decrease in gobbling in the past few years. The Toms seem to be there, I have seen them come in quiet....I've taken a few that way... but its just not like it used to be, as far as gobbling goes. Other guys I know who hunt them in my area have been saying the same thing.... Who knows???? Preditors got them spooked ??? Im in Onondaga Co. -
Real nice Tom.....good job!!!

I use an old weber charcoal/wood that works awsome. You have to be there to moniter the temp. but you can leave it for a little while at least. I think I paid 40 or 50 bucks for it a while back. Works real good. The more modern ones do too, just depends on what you want to spend.....But yeah the constant temp. ones are easier to use. Good luck.....

I've had Too many birds get spooked by decoys. Maybe it was me and/or my set up but I rarely use them. A couple weeks ago( before I got hurt) I had a hen decoy out. After calling for a few minutes a hen came running in. It Walked twards the decoy and suddenly darted off to the left, into the brush....She saw something she did'nt like.

I always save the legs and thighs for stew, soup or anything that cooks for a long time. What ever you want to do just slow cook them for a long time and they tender right out....dont throw them out!!!!! trust me !!!!

Clovers, lime and fertilizer.
ants replied to erussell's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
A few years back I planted a small (less than an acre) plot of one of those brands...biologic or something, but a lot if it was clover. I just disced it up and added about 160# of fast acting lime, because the .ph was off. It grew great and is still there. We tried the same thing on another part of the property and it did'nt grow half as good. We also added some 10-10-10. Who knows? I think alot of this food plot stuff is hit or miss. -
Thats a good morning! My season is over (not by choise) so I'd love a morning like that. Pav have fun with your kid

Damn shame. When I was a kid I found a young cow that got her legs tangled in loose barbed wire and could'nt get up.She had been there a while. I ran back to the farmers house to let him know. He and his brother did everything they could to save her but she ended up dying. But at least they tried. Damn shame.

Congrats.....IMHO Jeeps are good strong vehicles. I paid $90.00 for my first car( 69 Olds) Put maybe $200 into it and drove it for at least 2 years.. Good luck with it

As far as the Savage guns... I have heard nothing but good about them, although I don't own one . I'm a lefty too and have an old rem. 700 (30-06) and a Ruger M-77 (7mm-08) Both are good, very accurate guns. Matter of fact I wanted the Savage classic, lefty, in 7mm-08 but It did not exist at the time, so I went with my #2 choice, the Ruger.

I've had good luck late season, although it's alot hotter and thicker out there. But yeah its good. Most hens have been bred and are on the nests, and some Toms still want to go at it. I'd say use the same tactics you would at any other time. One of the best birds I ever got I shot the last week of the season.

Man that sure looks like someones dog.I dont think I would have shot it. But It still might be a yote.

I have noticed the same thing over the past 3yrs or so. Less and less gobbles. A couple years ago a friend and I both got nice big Toms and called in several more but never heard a gobble. NOT ONE!! all season. I'm in Onondaga Co.. Don't know ..it's wierd.
-
a few years ago (maybe more than that) I watched three turkeys do the same thing to a bunch of geese out in a plowed field. Weird is right. Beats the Sh$#t out of me..Territorial???
-
Lyger for sure........ Kidding Bobcat all the way. I've seen a couple but never shot one. They're not big at all. A .22 would do it. IMHO

Not touching this one

If you think he's far enough away (so he wont bust you) try to sneak ( I mean sneak) to the left or right of him and call agian. You might draw him in a dfferent direction that he likes better. If it 's a true barrier like a creek, a fence or real thick brush, more than likely he wont cross it. If he answeres you and sounds close.... shut up. He'll find you.... It's hard to do when a Tom is close and going nuts but dont answere. Good luck

I have one in 22-250 I bought last winter. It shot like crap with Win. 55gr. ammo. I switched to Federal 55's and it grouped way better but not all that great at 100 yards. I don't think they're know for being real accurate but you should be able to get it dialed in enough to be a good reliable deer gun. Make sure everything is tight on your mount. and maybe try one more brand of ammo but dont expect to put them through the same hole. Good luck

Yeah!!! I'm good for now. Only thing is she took tomarrow off to take me for the M.R.I. so I hope I got enough. I think I did.
