  1. Ok I'll step up to the challenge , and hunt tomorrow afternoon .
  2. Ya me too, but now a days , I try to shoot a decent buck in bow and will only shoot one in gun if it's much bigger . That's yet to happen although last year I almost pulled the trigger on one at 25 yards, but decided to,let him live another year .
  3. Not much really . I've really enjoyed shed hunting the last couple years. But I see that as just a fun side hobby. Late summer early fall ill hang some stands and shoot my bow , well really my arrows.
  4. Most years I don't take any bucks in gun season , that's what bow season is for !!!
  5. If you lock your dog and wife in the trunk for a few hours, the dog will still be happy to see you when you open it up !
  6. You don't have to " shoot at him " , just tying to,intimidate by use of a gun , or in your own words , " firing across his bow " will lead to,charges . wow , please consider not owning guns or perhaps anger management , I'd go,with both ...... You make us all look bad .
  7. After using 4 on a coyote , missed on the easiest shot , needed 3 on a dead run ...... I bring a few extra .270's maybe 10 now . oh and 9 in the 9MM . Back when we hunted with shotguns and drove deer most of the day, I'd be embarrassed to say . Now that I just sit and use a rifle , I've never needed move than one , but I don't mind the extra 9 , I guess the old days linger on .....
  8. My thinking is that a brush gun , is a gun for short range shots , i.e. In the brush, not shooting through brush but hunting in it . The 35 Remington has great killing power out to 150 maybe 200 in the right hands, then it drops like a rock . So a short range rifle, accurate and powerfull at short distances . Often in a small compact package , often in a pump action for fast follow up shots .
  9. Rockspec , awesome ! Time and location produce results . See you tomorrow .
  10. Easily a charge of menacing , perhaps reckless endangerment . Those are generally the charges in these situations , firing into, the ground, In another's general direction ( across his bow ) . Just showing a gun to allude to using it . Yes call the Sheriff, but if you tell them you " fired one across his bow ." Don't me surprised when you'er the one walking out in cuffs. I love it when morons call the cops on themselves !
  11. And yet as FF's were told we're " held to a higher standard ." I know guys who were passed over because they had a speeding ticket still on their driving record . The background check is over 40 hours , work history , school records, driving record , credit history , interviews of neighbors and on and on . Everyday I'm Inside people's homes and businesses , often without anyone present but ourselves ,we have lock box keys that let us into untold buildings 24/7 . We have the people's trust , largely because of the rigorous screening process ,that used to be in place . Id guess by the time one got felony convictions they've had a few " second chances" that they blew .
  12. I'm right handed and was right eye dominate , but my right eye got very weak so,I switched to,left hand shooting . Then after LASIK I became left eye dominate , so that worked out nice , only my right eye also became 20/20 ..... I've never had an issue long gun or handgun ( I shoot way more handguns) . Leo Major was a sniper and general bad ass in WW II , he lost an eye and kept on killing the enemy just fine .
  13. I see two things as being big factors , time and location . For me I have lots of time to hunt ( worked 4 days in Nov.) and a spot with a fair number of deer . Then there is the 30 years I've hunted the same, spot. My daughter has a grand total of 3 1/2 hours on stand this year( over two sits ) and shot one of 8 deer she saw .
  14. When my daughter took the class a few years ago, she never read the book prior, just sat through class and took the test. She said it was the easiest test she ever took . I also attended two,of the three nights including " test" night . I watched a couple kids who failed, get it changed to passing grades . The instructor goes over some of the questions they miss and make sure they understand why their answer was wrong and why the other is correct , then they give them credit for that question , which raises their grade to just over passing .
  15. This far into the season, they often lay close to,the houses during the day. you're learning grasshopper .
  16. Make sure to boil it in one of your wife's favorite pots and do it on the kitchen stove while she's home ......
  17. ASAT is a camo I really like and think actually may work, to bad there is not much of a selection . As I've said before camo is made to look good to hunters . Which is why ones like ASAT don't take off. Here's my daughter in my 20 year old ASAT bibs. And keeping with the thread an orange vest .
  18. Been lots of boating accidents .... for those that are going to post photos of your guns per. Rob's request , don't forget to include your address too ! It would save me time from going through all your old posts to figure it out , Thanks !
  19. We had the tenderloins and cube steaks out of this doe , my daughter's first deer . Biz , I hope you filled that plate a few times .
  20. Agree, a few have asked me how this happens . I simply say a certin percentage of people are idiots , and some of them hunt . You can almost see he light come on.
  21. Well only NYS and Wisconsin have back tags ( and only part of NY) . So no big deal to,repeal really . Altough personly I like saving my old tags . Poking holes in gore tex clothes not so much .
  22. The story but really the 3 generation picture really made me smile as well .
