  1. Happy Bitrhday , in honor of it , millions will cheer and raise a glass tonight !
  2. I don't work,in the 911 center so take this win a grain of salt .Your call is answered by a call taker not a dispatcher , land lines addresses shows up on the screen , which in the old days was compared to,the one you gave them to judge if it was a false call or not . With cell calls I've never heard a dispatcher say what location the call is coming from , only what tower it's hitting . Now as you tell the call taker your info, they're entering it into the system and sending it to poilce / fire / ems dispatcher . Some callers get mad because they keep asking questions not realizing , dispatch is already sending us . With luck any added info will be sent to me over the air or to my computer . What you say is key to what gets sent and how fast, which is why for poilce calls , the caller often says, ' I think he has a gun", and for minor ems calls which would not bring a response , they always use the key words, " trouble breathing " Smoke alarm going off in a building , nearest engine or truck. Smoke alarm with an odor of smoke or slight amount of smoke , 1 engine 1 truck and a BC, Smoke alarm with heavy smoke or fire, 3 engines 2 trucks 1 rescue and a couple Chiefs to mess everything up. Cell phones of today are carried by everyone which means a call gets placed faster, it's also brought about a tremendous amount of false or " good intent " calls. Everyone wants to call , I can't tell you how many "car fires" I'm sent to that are over heated engines. Here's a hint, a car pulled over with a little bit of white " smoke "from the hood and a guy sitting in it is not a car fire . Went for a " jumper" , woman in purple coat standing on Main st overpass of the RR tracks. Get there and it's 10 year old girl with a sled going up and down the hill next to bridge . A walker can't stop and look at the river bottom from the Veterans bridge with out generating jumper calls. Went for one guy who had a giant camera and was taking photos. This time of year we go,for house fires , when it's just the drier vent , everyone wants to,use that cell phone ....
  3. I'd be happy if folks knew the differance between east and west bound on the expressways when calling , just because your on the " east side" of the city does not mean you're going east bound . But that seems to advanced for many callers .
  4. Happy birthday ! On honor of it , I'll drink another of the Penn. Tux beers you sent me , have to wait till Sunday night though as I'm working nights , oh well perhaps at 3:00 tomorrow prior to,going in , it's the least I can do !
  5. Blood ? Wait , you got a deer this year ?
  6. Personally , Id rather buy an 80% lower and build a real AR off the books . Not that I have .... I know many who also are buying 80% Glocks . I like pumps in shotguns , in fact there is a 8 round Benelli stuffed full of 00, not far away , but AR platforms should be semi . Screw Andy .
  7. Never had much interest in crossbows , largely because I've never found it much of a challenge to kill a deer with a compound,( which is lighter , smaller and easier to,use out of trees ) frankly I find bow easier then gun because of the greater opportunity at relaxed deer just walking around each day . Let's face it today's archery equipment is light years ahead of what was out there when we first got a " bow season ." As I age and the injuries pile up ( arthritis in hands and feet, two inpinged shoulders , frozen shoulder, pinched nerve in neck, hip and knee pain ) the crossbow has some appeal , even if it's some big ,heavy ,clumsy contraption that almost seems to be a hindrance in some fashion . Most deer I've killed in bow were in the 10 to 20 yard range , my farthest was 25 yards so I stand little to gain from its ability to shoot longer ranges , others may I guess , to which I say good post a picture !
  8. I started bowhunting in '88 with a Golden Eagle turbo hawk . Used that bow for 18 years most of those " shooting fingers" with a tab . Killed a deer my first year and most years since , never knew I was hindered by it . Went with a release to give them a try, didn't see much difference in my shooting. Today's shorter bows you almost have to because of finger pinch .
  9. I spend time in the woods hunting , because my wife doesn't .

    Beer

Idk one of these tonight I guess.... 12 pack of the month club . Christmas gift from the youngest .
  11. I'm not sure the standard has been lowered , but today the old timers will tell you ( if they know you ) that the youngsters are taught a more , " us vs. them mentality , and you ain't one of "us". The oldtmers were taught to know the differance between a criminal , and just an a$$hole . I have a friend who did well over 30 years , retired a few years back out of major crimes . He's arrested tons of bank robbers , shooters , career criminals, he's been stabbed and had bones broken, rolled around on the ground fighting over guns . In all those years he's made one DWI, it was different back then , more likely to take you home or let you find a ride . Right or wrong that's how it was. I know many in the '70s and '80's who were let go taken home , or just sent on their way.

    Bucks!

As for tags , yes some tag on rear hock , most bucks I've seen are antler tagged though . Now on these pics you can't see all of the deers bodies , so yes they all could have tagged the hocks , seems odd but could be . its something I've been looking at lately as there has been many pics posted here this year where one can see all of the buck, antlers to hoofs, hanging in yards and in p/u and racks and I cant find a tag anywhere .
  13. I thought I would see a big spoon, was prepaired to say he has all he needs .

    Bucks!

Well if NYS it would be nice if they put the tags on their deer ,at home or point of transportation I believe it reads . Only one of those pics got any hits on tineye, the one in the pick up, he posted it on Instragram 11/30/16 , under #deerseason. I scrolled for a few minutes and only got three days back, sorry I don't have time to scroll back to 11/30 .
  15. Our house is fine, the snow etc . Was the farm house she grew up in . She told all kinds of stories as if they lived in the Artic , and she persevered like some explorer .
  16. I did , but like I said in another thread , in the long run it would have been cheaper just to buy the land . Oh she told all kinds of stories of going without water in the house because the cows needed it first, and how the uninsulated , upstairs bedrooms got snow drifts on the inside window sills . Today, the gas fireplace will run all day and a space heater is at her feet as she plays computer games and complains its to cold , and can I carry the wash downstairs because it's " to heavy "..... Sorry to go,off track TF.
  17. Not defending drinking while using guns , but it is banned from shooting sports because it's considered a performance enhancing drug . http://www.dailynebraskan.com/sports/alcohol-banned-from-rifle-competitions/article_208d46e3-8e6f-54b4-a2d5-98aef12ab40e.html
  18. You didn't give the option of " front yard." This year 1 in hardwoods, 1 in a field ( not a crop field ,and was pushed out of a thicket ) Historically , in gun season it's a mix, crop fields perhaps the first day, hardwoods , creek bottoms, and many in thick thick stuff. i think a lot will depend on the area , where I hunt its small woods and thousands of acres of crops, someplace with lots of woods and a few small crop fields, those fields may be a gold mine .
  19. Turn your head and grunt..... Really I could go all night with this one !
  20. And all you guys have been using teeth to age them ......
  21. Heck I thought it was cool to get this Bobcat on cam this year , 8H north of 5/20 .
  22. Years ago I removed it from my 12ga, as I had it over my shoulder and a nice buck was jumped by my daughter as she walked to me. I needed every split second I had to shoot him and being slung cost me some . I added a loop of cord through the end cap hole to hang on stand, although I feel it should be in your hands as much as possible not on a hook . Its a fine shooting aid, but I'm to,tempted to have it over my shoulder or hanging when it should be in my hands . My rifle has one for now . Have yet to use it as an aid , my shots tend to be close and often fast. The one deer I shot with it this year was on a drive and it came by me broadside at idk 20 yards . The coyote I shot was on a dead run and it took shot #3 to tag him .
  23. This counts for both of ours ! Edit, my reading skills must be off a bit, this did involve a kill, just not mine .
  24. I'm so,happy for you Eddie ! You are a very dedicated Hunter , congrats !
