  1. Agree with Cabinboy Lots of guys on this forum drive 40k pickups own hunting land and walk in the woods with $1,000 worth of gear to,kill a deer, a few hundred dollar fine and the very very low odds of getting caught once in a lifetime is not a deterrent .
  2. This is from a cam of one of my hunting buddy's , it's not really a six as it has a small 7 pt. It was later taken in bow last year , not far from me...
  3. $200 fine plus $75 court costs let's call it $300. I paid 6 figures it put my kids through college , my Mom pays $5,000 a month to assisted living, my Nephew is picking up hunting land for $950,000, my buddy just bought a$400,000 house on the Bay and last year bought 40 acres of hunting land cash. If they want the fines to discourage anything they need to get them in line with today's costs. That fine is less then the pocket knife I have on me.
  4. Nyantler and Docs answer are spot on, in fact I sent them to one of my hunters. The there are no deer here guy with one stand no thought of wind or scent control.... It doesn't take much to put them I hiding . As I told my friend in 6 weeks of bow I walked in and out 14 times, rotated stands by the wind mostly, paid attention to scent control as well, no extra walking no talking seldom bumped deer. Saw deer in 12 of those hunts. Now gun, OD 4 of us walked in then out in the AM and 3 in the PM . That's 7 hunts or half of my bow season walking around in ONE day! Same next day, add in some talked loudly on cell phone next to sanctuary , have one stand and do zero scent control or pay attention to the wind, 3 cars pulling in not just one, couple talking as they go on and out. Well it's no wonder the deer stay put in the heavy cover even after a few day "break".
  5. Because my wife doesn't .....
  6. Had a good season , saw close to 50 in bow 5 nice shooters . Took 3 doe, passed a ton of young bucks, friend took a 141 and heard about a 156 taken very nearby . Couple other decent bucks taken on the farm , pretty much everyone got something. Still hoping for a buck in ML after I get off nights Sat. Morning. A man can dream right ?
  7. PM me on those LW sticks, my youngest lives in Amherst finishing up her Masters at UB, sometime prehaps she can get them .thanks I use LW and I have a set of muddy's it prefer the LW , easier to pack in and out and for me they stay in place better. This year was my first with the Muddys one kinda pulled away from the tree , moved around a bit, there ok I'll still use them really like LW.
  8. They sure do my friends Dad took this one with his bow in Irondequoit's town hunt. Webster of course has a town land hunt as well, sorry neither of these towns are near Buffalo .
  9. I'm still in bed, have yet to shower , eat, dress , drive 32 miles, walk in......
  10. Most here will say well, before light, one time I would say that too, not anymore. I don't shoot deer that would be under my stand in the dark, those deer are long gone by light. My stands are a all from10 to 30 yards in at most. They are on drainage ditches , or just in thickets or the hardwoods, I get here by walking farm field edges and I glass as I go, so if a moon lite night with no clouds I may go when still dark as I can see them , other wise I go as it's just getting light. I glass and stop and often change what stand I use by what I see in the fields and where I see them. Don't have to,let anything " settle down" if you don't mess it up ..... My one buddy gets in well before me, I enjoy his stories about busting deer on his way in. I text him pics of the ones that go,by me a few for the last time.....
  11. Wrong you can not go " north" of the speed limit to pass.
  12. Use a Fisher Space Pen. Writes upside down, underwater and their greatest claim to fame , on NYS deer tags !
  13. Ingram, Chris Reeve Sebbie Nice! I've a couple Striders, Hinderer , a couple custom FB, 100 year old Marble , pre 64 Puma White Hunter, to many production to list . Would like a Dozier but the wait is 3 years.......
  14. I'd rather slam my fingers in a door then watch football . The head coach of the NY Gaints, Tom Caughlin ? His sister bought their building lot from my father in law, their yard backs up,to,our land. The husband was always telling me all, this inside info about the team yawn... I had no idea who,he was talking about . My nephew in Tenn. his best friend was QB for the Titinas , he always invited me down to party and sit with the players family's at a game. In fact he had a players pass to,get in anywhere he wanted. Nice kid but I'll just see him at Christmas . I always went to my kids games, have zero interest in watching strangers kids play.....
  15. Nothing . We need them we should embrace and encourage them . The average joe who gets out a few times and is happy to kill any deer. We need there numbers and we need them to pass it on to generations to come .
  16. Grow, I'd only be guessing, but I work with the guy here in Roch. He lives in a close suburb, my guess would be reg. 8. Since to sawing and starting of saw took place of cam. ( it was set to video) no charges....
  17. Must have missed that. Still can't see Paula , wny,, fast Eddie , first light ,stone, being in favor of sabotaging a persons stand . Remove it sure. Can you provide a link to,their comments ? I did a search but could not find any.
  18. What in the wide world of sports are you talking about ? I can't see anyone who replied encouraging sabotaging of someone's stand .
  19. Some what common . I have friend who has had a guys take a chain saw to his trees that have stands in them and drop them that's bad enough but.. One morning while climbing down he saw that the tree he climbed up in the dark was cut most of the way trough ! Now turns out he had a camera on a near by scrape, it caught a guy walking past with a chain saw, off camera you, hear it start and then hear cutting . DEC said not enough evidence ! Maybe not for Johnny law , but those who know how,the game is played it sure is.
  20. Trainers run the gamet from good to bad, some take a couple classes and call themselfs a trainer. Shop carefully. My new guy ( I'm a LT in a good sized FD) is a high level Cross Fit trainer, that kid is good ! About 5'7 " idk 150 with a 265 squat clean and can do 30 muscle ups . He sure knows his stuff not just the moves but how the body works. I'd put him way ahead of any of the trainers at my gym. Myself I avoid machines for many reasons, locked into plain of the machine , takes balance , stability , core, power, and speed out of the movement . Compound movements on your feet, high intensity interval training, and you'll be fine . Good Luck !
  21. I'll be out for a few sits over ML. Hunted to,hard for a nice buck to stop now !
  22. Passed up doe at first light, pushed a small thicket against my better thoughts , as one can push but need at least 3 watchers , not one. 5 doe came out to far from me ...... Resting in car round 2 .buddy wants me to drop a doe for him , well I'm still trying for a nice buck ....
  23. Mr VJP nailed it. We used to do them for years and years. I had red plastic buckets I placed for watchers to,sit on with the instructions don't move it,don't think it looks better a little bit over there, I don't care if you think that is a stupid spot you will kill deer there. After years of learning where they run to we don't need free thinkers..... We pushed farm woods and often the watchers were 1/4 to sometimes close to a mile from the woods being pushed, but we knew the exact tree or bush that they would run past entering the next woods. They get bad raps from those that think you put guys at one end of the woods and push to guys standing at the other end with everyone firing every which away !
  24. Ha I thought same thing, does not look tied to joists but railings above
