  1. So sad. And most times preventable, with the wearing of a PFD.
  2. Very nice boat Jerry! And you got a great deal on it too! Have fun!!
  3. Welcome back my friend! Fantastic work as always Matt!! Love the chainsaw self portrait!!! See ya before fall!
  4. Way to go Dan! Sounds like a great trip indeed! Big thumbs up to tree guy too! Andrew gave spot on info to ya! Moog really should pay more attention to his info too! Especially range estimation!
  5. The one thing I was blessed to be born with, is a VERY strong sense of direction. To the point where it kinda freaks people out sometimes. Yes, I'm very good at reading a map and compass. But they mostly confirm what my sense of direction tells me. For instance, I most always do Deer Search sorties at night. With the woods free of hunters. I'll pull up to the hunters property, take a compass bearing, and head into woods I've never seen in daylight. After sometimes going in circles through thick brush for a mile or more, we recover the deer or not. Then the hunter who lives on this property says I'm not sure which way is out? I just seem to know, and point, that way. How do you know that, he'll say? I don't know, I just do. Sometimes I'll confirm it with my compass, sometimes not. But I always head straight for my truck. And it leaves the hunter scratching his head. "How in the heck did you know that"? I just shrug???? Oh I've been turned around many times in the woods since I started roaming them, on my own, as a young lad. But always found my way out, without too much trouble. My maternal grandmother was full blood native American. And I was brought to the reservation in NC many times, when I was a young boy. My great uncles taught me some of the ways. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. But I like to think so.......?
  6. It has become somewhat of a tradition on the 4th. But I can't stomach to watch it. Kinda grosses me out.
  7. Happy Birthday Paula!!!! You really ARE hotter than the 4th of July my friend!!!....wink....wink. Enjoy your special day with all the good stuff coming your way! Give Bones and Otis a scratch behind the ear too.

    Farm Pond Fun

Good times right there! Just something about farm ponds, kids, and fishing, that never fails to make smiles for everyone.
  9. Me and Bonnie too??? I'd love to do a cannonball with my big fat butt in that pool, while Mrs. grampy just rolls her eyes, and looks the other way!
  10. Kids and grandkids coming over for T-Bones on the grill tomorrow. May go out to the fairgrounds in Cobleskill for fireworks in the evening. Friday, I need to finish up a project at work, will be out by noon, to mow grass and tend to the garden. Saturday is a work day at the farm property. But I'm sure we will do a little fun stuff too. Sunday is try to beat my grandson with a better bow target score!!! (he won last week) Also maybe some trigger time at the range with our hunting rifles.
  11. That is exactly what I'm thinking. May look at the Montec's, as they are pretty small, and I have shot them from my old bow. They actually did shoot very well from that bow. But never did hunt with them, I gave them to a new hunter.
  12. I'll be using a new bow this year. Set at 48lbs, I'm wondering what would be a good broadhead? I have used Muzzy and Thunderhead 100gr fixed heads in the past with good results. Should I stick with one of those, or perhaps try something new since I'm shooting lower poundage? The Magnus Black Hornet heads look good, though expensive. But will they perform any better than the ones I've used, with the lower draw weight?
  13. Really nice truck Biz! Congratulations!
  14. I've been wearing them off and on for hunting, since my army days. Comfy, and breaks up the outline of your head better when deer are in close. Especially when hunting from ground level like I do. And I think they look cool too!
  15. Congrats on a very nice truck Belo!!
  16. Ish..... and give or take......I thought were common terms when estimating yardage.....no??
  17. Congratulations to your daughter!! A big step taken, on the walk of life.
  18. Dude....you are too much. Do you actually believe we are all that dumb??? C'mon man.... For the record, I liked Stormy better...........
  19. I wonder if it was any good???.......
  20. Congratulations to you and your lovely bride Eddie!! 57 years is a milestone that not many reach! I guess at this point, she's learned to just ignore you at times!!!!....... Wishing you both many, many more years together.
  21. Good for you Mike! I honestly feel that preparation is the golden key to deer hunting success, for most areas. And especially if you had a down season the year before! You got your bow shooting good. Now just shoot and shoot some more. That will boost your confidence big time going in to October! The other thing would be to think about, and perhaps tweak your stand selections. And possibly find a new set up or two, that will put deer closer to, and in front of you a little more often? You know the property, and have a good idea of what I'm talking about. Have fun until the season. Best of luck to you during it!!
  22. I'm sure he got all the plate numbers, and probably sat behind the wheel of moogs jeep, and left a surprise under, or maybe on the seat....... What a great gathering! WNY gtg's rock!!!!
  23. Some great responses, thanks guy's! I'm going to give it a try from November first to the end of bow season. Most all my hunting is done at ground level. So I'll have the decoy facing away at twenty yards or so, looking in to the thick cover I expect the bucks to be moving through. The wind will be coming from the thicket and the decoy to me. Hopefully, if the buck comes in to scent check, it will be between the decoy and me, for a chip shot? I love the white hanky idea for the tail! And putting scent under the decoy makes great sense. Definitely will just stash it out nearby, or even in a pop up blind, when not in use. If it doesn't work, oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But there are a couple of set ups we have, where it might just work! Is there a particular brand of decoy that stands out to you guys? I do have a 3D target, but it's heavy and cumbersome to move around.
  24. Very cool mount! Looks great!
