  1. Very nice! Looks like lots more family fun on the lake!!!
  2. No stranger on my land would ever respect it the way I do! I don't want to clean up the inevitable mess they would leave behind. I don't want six truck loads of orange doing deer drives on opening day. I want spike bucks to live at least another year. I don't want to go to my stand and find someone in it or sitting twenty yards away. Or be set up, just to have someone come stumbling and bumbling through at prime time. Nope not me!! I worked too hard and sacrificed so much to get what I have. I feel we do a better job of managing the properties than any outsiders ever would!!! Including DEC!
  3. Wow, that's pretty cool! Never seen one like that myself. But it looks like an old fly rod and reel. I'm sure someone will chime in and let us know exactly what is is.
  4. I give up!!! After 15 years blood tracking with dogs I know nothing and you know it all! You win, I'm Out! Good luck out there, you're going to need it!
  5. I'm really not trying to bust your stones but You should know the NYSLTD rules and regulations having just "passed" the test. There is no grey area! You either are hunting OR tracking. If you go to your car, camp or where ever to get your dog, when tracking, you can have a firearm. But my biggest question is why do you have a wounded deer before you even hunt?
  6. I'm interested in a bino harness too. I'll follow this thread.
  7. I've been a Deer Search tracker for a number of years. You can NOT bring your dog in the woods to hunt! Has your dog been certified? You MUST call DEC from the tracking area prior to tracking, and fill out a report. Calling local police is recommended as well. Your dog MUST be leashed at all times. Hence the term "leashed tracking dog". What you are trying to do is not legal and if you passed the leashed dog tracking test, you should know the rules and regulations!
  8. Thinking of you grow. Hope hope it all works out well.
  9. With all the chipmunks around this place, I want to borrow that cat!
  10. Get way, way off the beaten path, on side roads. Look for places that look like they could use a helping hand. And offer one.
  11. Shoot - Shovel - Shut Up !!! In some area's, mine included there is a real need to have an open season, year round.
  12. I just got started fly fishing three years ago, so my experience is limited. But my Orvis 5 wt. Works great for river smallies and spring trout. It handles great and it's what the Orvis guy's suggested for newbie's. Perhaps some day I might even get somewhat proficient at casting! But it is a lot of fun.
  13. Prayers to his family and friends. Hopefully someone will continue his work and keep the place going. So sad.....RIP.
  14. Hey rookie, easy on yourself. None of us were perfect either. Glad it all turned out well. Thanks to Mom for the back-up! Before you know it he will be tagging along with you in the woods.
  15. The area between where rob is and S. Bethlehem, Feura Bush going out to Clarksville has some real BIG bucks ! Yup, just drive around those areas and you will see some jaw droppers for sure. Hit all the back roads!! There are still some older farm guy's that could use help with work and chores. You may have to knock on 50 doors. But all it takes is one good property and a bit of hard work to secure a big buck hot spot!!! Get off the beaten path!! Look for a place that looks like it could use a helping hand!! No it aint easy gaining permission. But nothing worthwhile ever is.
  16. They are two different tags. The land owner tag is for property owners of 50 or more acres. The DMP with the PP's can be used in the same unit as your property or anywhere in the state. In my hunting area, 4-H you need at least three PP's to get a DMP. But I get a landowner permit every year.
  17. If I were skin and bones starving, I'd eat SOS. But with my fat reserves, I won't be eating coyote any time soon.
  18. What a way to go. Consumed by a snapper.
  19. I did post how refreshing it is to have young ladies involved in hunting and fishing. And how cool it is she made the paper. But it got lost here somewhere.
  20. Try trolling marshmellows on a wide gap hook!
  21. Yeah, admin told us last week the site is making upgrades and could get a bit "wonky". I see some posts from yesterday have been lost. I'm sure everything will be back up to snuff in short order.
  22. Earlier this year my wife calls me at work and says she was going to get the mail and see's a fox by our mailbox "acting weird " just across the road. I told her to call the local police right away to report a possible rabid animal. They showed up a short time later with an animal control guy and the fox was still there. They put the noose thing over its head and it was going nuts and they ended up discharging three shots . The cop tells my wife it was rabid as it was foaming at the mouth and showed no fear of humans. DEC came to take the dead fox away. So glad she saw it and knew something wasn't right. Haven't had anymore problems since but always ready for anything now while working or playing outside .
  23. If you feel the need for more exercise, come do my yard!
