No, it's in the creek that the hatchery sits on, there is an impassible barrier there that the walleyes collect at heavily. The spearing is taking place about 30yds from the hatchery doors.

I have not seen any video coverage, or actually any coverage, of this on Syracuse tv news.  How do you think the public would react watching spawning walleyes getting speared next to the hatchery?   Seriously, this story needs to be covered.

Thanks I tried to google it but the only thing that came up was this and thread on trapperman. It looks like they tried and got way with this in Wisconsin.

I bet the trollers put a lot more hurtin on the walleyes than the spearers.  
Maybe your ears would perk up more if we were talking about shooting button bucks. Feel free to "troll" right on by the thread if you don't have anything useful to add.

Hopefully, they have that early September gun season again this year, so I can start restocking the freezer with those.  I have plenty of ammo now.
 

 Maybe I’ll try for one with my 16 gauge this year. A Hornady 12 gauge sst and .50 cal ML xtp’s were both good for   one last season, but I am ready for a change.   It might be 40 years, since I killed a bb with my 16.  
 

Since you brought up deer, I was glad to see that you wised up and got a .270 this year.  That is an almost infinitely better deer round than a .243.  If I were to pick up another deer rifle, it would be a toss up between one of those, or a .308.

And the fact that the hatchery doesnt actually often stock Oneida as those walleyes go to lakes that have sparser populations across the state. So it hurts fisheries across the state. 

Im sure legal hunters take more deer than poachers as well.  But still doesnt make it right.  They are taking fish out of season, over the limit and spearing - all of which are illegal. AND.... they are from Canada. If i run into them i will have them PM you about spearing bass at your favorite adirondack lake, maybe you can help them out and its even closer a drive for them. And spearing bass on the spawning beds should be real easy to get garbage bags full of big spawing bass.

No. State land at the hatchery, surrounded by private lands. The Oneida Nation is actively working to buy up as much of the Sylvan Beach end of the lake a they can...New casino on the lake, townhouses, etc. I am surprised this was the Mohawk branch, but then...the Mohawk nation originally was in the area from the Hudson through the (obvious enough) Mohawk River. That said, the hatchery still I dont think would have been in their original homeland, but would still have been within the confederacy.

I have never really got involved with Wolc's  BS between him and others on this forum but he made it clear that he only cares about filling his freezer and nothing more....I  hope this all gets resolved heard the state closed land around hatchery and creek and with the high waters now i would guess other creeks are to high to see the fish and the fish that spawned will get pushed out of creeks....still dosent keep them from taking over limit and out of season with rods or spear on the lake tho

When one country concurs another they assimilate or die.  The fact that they have reservation at all Is amazing.. 

There are always a few that want to push laws limits and boundries.boundaries.. 

Fun fact  the Dutch were in nys before the Seneca who were forced out of their homeland by Cherokee,  and in their push into wny they committed genocide od several small tribes  including the Erie,  so  imo  the  should have no say over the europeans...
