thanks guys, it was a fun hunt! it was one of the best hunts this year. i actually lost count on how many bucks i saw that day. my other spot where i have the big boys on cam has been EXTREMELY unproductive. they are there and keep showing up just not in the day. The spot where i took the 7 point is where i shot at and skimmed the top of that 130 class 8. both are great properties but the ones has just started to pick up. My buddy is out there this morning and said he has seen 5 bucks and 3 doe by 8am. 3 bucks were running doe he said. i am going to split some time between gun season this year, instead of my usual 1 week upstate, i will be up there for a few days and back on the island to try and fill that tag if i can. things are happening so late out here, i think that mild winter threw alot of things off balance. Doe down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally put one on the ground. Had to burn my either sex tag but i figure its the last night of vacation and i don't think i am really going to have a chance to get back out.

If i can get my flash to work on the camera i will get a pic up. Story to follow on my journal.

Congrats to every one else.

I filled my antlerless tag yesterday afternoon. It was in the 60s and I wasn't optomistic the deer would be moving, but around 4 pm I saw this young doe coming through the brush and goldenrod. She was acting super hawky and stood on the edge of the food plot forever before finally settling down and working her way into range. She came broadside at about 28 yards and I cut it loose, hitting her a little higher and further back than I intended but watched her crash about 80 yards away.

While breathing a sigh of relief from watching her crash I heard a few grunts coming from behind me and out comes a tall spike on a trot with his nose to the ground. He goes right to where the doe was standing at the the shot, then proceeds to walk down the same trail the doe ran off on, nose to the ground, grunting the whole way. He followed the trail right up to the doe's body before he realized she was dead. You could almost see him go "WTF?" it was pretty funny. He was not discouraged though, and he trotted off still grunting the whole way.

I posted a few weeks ago when I joined that I still hadn't gotten a NY deer since moving from MI, well after three years of NY hunting shot this Long Island public land doe last night.

30 yard shot, 30 yard recovery. Shes a young doe, but she will be tasty in time for Thanksgiving! Now the pressures off. lol

I know , I know, its not the monster of our dreams... but the big nine point that gave me the slip twice in the last 2 weeks did not show his face, and with this being the last day i could make it out for bow, I decided to put some meat in the freezer... i'll be back out for that 9, and he wont put the slip on me next time with the ML in my hand!post-2133-0-56306400-1352856798_thumb.jppost-2133-0-97636100-1352856834_thumb.jppost-2133-0-29750600-1352856876_thumb.jp

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

      Hey All,
New to the forum, already missing the deer season and have curiosity to quell. This was a great non-typical I was chasing all season in a bow-only area of Ithaca. Anyone know or hear of a non-typical of this caliber being killed? I'll be out scouting for him aggressively soon enough. Thanks!

Hello folks. I'm a novice hunter from almost Central NY. I live amongst the cow fields about 20 minutes south of the ADK park. I'm here hoping that I can learn from those who know more than I do. That's probably most of you. LOL. This is my second season and so far I still have all of my tags. I have a rifle but I'm not comfortable shooting it in the area I hunt due to people being near. I'm hoping to fill at least one of my tags before Dec 19.
