greg54
Here are pics of bear my friend sent me, the bear was eating from birdfeeder in the neighbors yard this past week when they snapped these pics. The bear appears to be missing its front paw. This is in Machias, New York in Cattaraugus County on Tug Hill Rd area.

josephmrtn
I would figure trap.... you would need one bada$$ big gun to blow a bears whole leg off!!!!
growalot
Nice to look at but ......that is.....I fear...a dead bear walking...The DEC isn't relocating problem bears like they use to..now they shoot them...especially injured bears.. If he gets use to feeders the next thing is usually garages and garbage....They will investigate and fine ppl that intentionally/unintentional fed him. greg54
I'm going call my friend up later today and ask him to check with some of his other neighbors down there if they have any info about this bear if has been sighted much in that area. Pav2704
It really is amazing how they can deal with injuries like these and survive. Last year I saw a button buck that must have been shot across his face. He had a nice scab across his check and his one ear was hanging barely on. Understand the DEC.recommends not to feed birds in warmer weather because of bear, but what about feeders for Finches, and sugar water feeders for humingbirds? G-Man
you dont need to blow foot off just get a broken wrist bone and infection sets in, a bear trap is a big thing and very heavy, a no 2 or 3 double coil wouldnt break bone it would be lucky to hold a toe.. still say gun or vehicle hit. turkeyfeathers
Also saying not a trap. What about born that way with a birth defect?
