Real Beer

Any of you drink the real beer...not that triple filtered water down swill they call a pilsner (coors, bud, PBR, etc)  Im talking the real deal.  Full body IPAs and saisons.  You know the Dog Fishhead 60 and 120 min IPA's.  Middle Age Brewery type of stuff.  The real stuff that puts hair on your chest sitting between 6.5 and 9% alcohol by volume?  I used to drink those other beer and then tried and IPA.  Took me a bit to get used to much like scotch.  Now I have trouble drinking those tripe filtered pilsners.  Just taste like water to me and I think I get full before I get a buzz.  Ive been ruined. I really wanted to get into making my own.  Got everything but a really good 6g pot thats pretty much a requirement for whole grain brewing.  I have pretty much everything else including books.  Someday Ill have the free time to pursue all my passions. Whitetail hunting AND GOOD BEER!  Sorry if Im rambling ive been into my stock of Dogfish head 120 min IPA.

The vast majority of my drinking is from my own home.  I have a wife and little one to take care of.  No need going and getting a dui!  Not to mention I could never live with myself if I got drunk and killed someone else.

It getting tougher to get a good beer. Some of the local winerys here are making their own, and they are sure good.

 

All you need is one to satisfy.

My normal beers are Coors light and Bud , but also like Heineken and Moosehead.

I don't care for the taste of the high alcohol content of Canadian beer. Last night at a party I tried a few Blue Moon beers that I didn't like either....just drank them to be polite.

I hear you,The craft beer industry is exploding in this country.My favorite brewery is located here on L.I. called Greenport harbor. There are several good brewery's in upstate NY,one good one is Ommegang.

I was good beer fiend and then got whacked with the gluten intolerance curse around 30...7 years later i home brew again and will be making a GF stout any day now. Just playing the hand i was dealt

 

Old favs-Sierra Nevada Bigfoot, any Unibroue belgian, Molson Stock Ale, the occasional EKU 23 or Arrogant Bastard Ale, loved Guinness and Murphys Double Chocolate Stouts, Franzikaner (sp), Dunkel......okay....most beers made... some of the locals are duds imo just priding themselves off being near the wine trail...Being stuck gluten free stinks but will say the only giant miss is Guinness- nothing else like it

There are a lot of good NY brewed beers...some of the best coming right from my garage but I might be a little bias towards those. 

 

Southern Tier, 3 Heads Brewing, and a host of others are turning out good products. Love all the Oktoberfest and harvest ales coming out now.  And soon I will be able to get an all time favorite, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.

The best tasting beer is made out of 4 row barley from Canada.  Most beer today is made out of other grains, mostly corn.  You just can't get the quality out of the malt. The hops are also just as important as the grain however. I get my knowledge out of a family member, that worked as under the table brewmaster at the old Becks Brewery in Buffalo.

Dogfish head Raison D'tre is my go to beer most times. I'm open to most craft beers although I'm a malt guy so hoppy IPA's are not my favorites.

I also support Genesee Brewery as local brewery's are almost a thing of the past, and while Kodak,Xerox and B&L have layed off tens of thousands ,Genny has hired people!

So ya I drink Genny, Red,Ice,and even a few Cream Ales from time to time.

The brothers hit the Brew Pub after work last Fri. That was fun.

Large scale commercial breweries use a lot of adjuncts in the process instead of the common grains and are not heavily hop to produce a very light flavor that will appeal to the largest polutation.  Some say production of a lightly flavored beer is more difficult because it is hard to hide the flaws in the brewing process.  A stronger flavored beer will hide the flaws.

I like some of those belgians and those blue moon esque beers like ufo. Also like Goose Island summer ale.

Arrogant bastard doesn't really taste all that great to me. I can do one but that's it. I know I'm in the minority there.

My go to beers are Heineken, Stella Artois, Sam Adams Octoberfest, and Hoegaarden.  I'll drink Bud Light and Coors when I feel like I need to spend less and be cheap.  Every once in a while, when I feel like changing things up I'll go stronger flavored beer like the Dog Fishhead, Brooklyn Lager, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.  Also, I always stick to the theme so at a Japanese restaurant I'll drink Sapporo, Italian - Peroni, Thai - Singha, etc.

The Craft Beer industry is finally giving us a chance to taste what real beer should taste like........I was a Coor's light guy until I started trying all the different Craft Beer's, now it just taste's light crap.

lol I walk into Beers of the World and I swear I hear angels singing. Now I know what my wife feels like in a shoe store!!!

 

There are so many good beers now.

 

Some of my favorites; Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Left Hand Milk Stout, Lake Placid Ubu Ale, McSorley's Irish Black Lager, really like a lot of Saranacs too. A good Augustiner or Paulaner or Obolon or 3 Bean..........

 

My go to regular more affordable beer is Labatts Blue light.

 

We usually go to a big Beer Festival every year or go on a Brewery tour. Was at Ommegang for a concert and camping a couple months ago man I woke up with an Ommegod headache!!

 

Having a Sam Adams right now, Ruby Mild pretty good.

Blechh.  Really don't drink anymore but I've never had a craft type beer that I liked.  For me the only thing other than PBR is Genny Bock when it's out in the spring.

90% of the time Im a Bud guy. My brother owns a local sports bar, with a good selection of beers. When I stop in I like the Stello , Sam Adams or Adirondack beers. A true black and tan is hard to beat too. ....Im all over the place.
