Who is ready for some gun action this weekend! Opening of rifle / gun always is a fun time. Love hearing the reports, texts and calls from friends and family. Don't get me wrong I love bow season, it's my favorite time of year but I know a lot more people that gun hunt and everyone and their mother is out on opening day.

Who is ready? Any fun / stupid traditions your looking forward to?

Have fun, be safe and good luck.

Hoping to get out to my spot early. We have neighbors on one side that only hunt rifle, love to get out there before they do, so they can push some deer over since all their stands are near our property line ;)

I am looking forward to seeing a few of the guys that only rifle hunt too.

Me my friend ad brother in law go together all day opening day. Then on our own for a but then meet up at our hunting cabin for a weekend the last day of rifle/shotgun and the beginning of muzzleloader since that area has the AR's we rarely see any bucks but see doe so it usually turns into a drinking night

Opening day of gun season has always had it's special appeal...There is nothing quite like it..

I have hunted every opening day ( southern zone) in NY since 1965 plus MOST of the PA opening days since 1973...

Back when seasom opened on a Monday, the weekend before was a big party..That was fun..I still get together with a few friends Friday night and swap lies over a few brews, but it's not like the old days..

It's probably easier on my LIVER this way, though...LOL...

I love watching the flashlights in the distance at 7-730am when its already light. It's a hunting club and they always seem to come in late and definitely push deer towards me

First time out with a rifle? ..... You bet I'm psyched! I had deer all bow season that have been just out of bow range. Boy do I have a surprise for them.

There is a lot of pressure to figure out exactly the right spot for a stand. I have several real good spots that have been traditionally pretty good. But opening day is a very special time in the season. It has to be done right. A mistake of choosing the wrong stand could make the difference between getting a good buck or not. Yeah, there is a lot of luck involved, but that opening morning stand selection can go a long ways toward putting that luck on my side. My thoughts and energies are starting to slip out of archery mode and into gun mode right now.

Been out with the rifle since 10/26.  Weather has sucked constantly.  The hunting gods seem to smile on you guys from the south with nice weather for opener.  That is ok, it will be nice weather for me also. Every weekend has been nasty so far.   Here in my area, we have a week of muzzleloading before regular season opens.  Since we have had this special season, I have taken that week off and hunt pretty much alone.  My favorite tradition is having the guys all pile in on Friday for gun opener.  Shooting the breeze, catching up and a big meal the night before the "opener", even though I have been hunting for a week already.

only thing better is the low roar of the ATV's at the same time, as they drive directly to the bottom of their stands...............

Nobody with atvs by me. No gun hunters in trees either. I've only seen and heard of guys on the ground. With all the heavy pines, sitting in a tree would be a disadvantage.

Semi excited this year. I always sweat my stand selection for the opener, but this year I won't be going down into Letchworth (where I do most of my hunting)  as my permit doesn't start until Nov 25th :(    But....... I'll hunt a different spot and am sure to have a smile on my face once I get settled into my stand in the dark.  Just being out there on opening morning for my 39th year is a blessing I'll gladly take!

I haven't slept well the night before the opener in quite a few years.

Good luck every one!
