luberhill
I’m super paranoid so I’m harnessed and hooked to a lifeline before my feet leave the ground. Then I’m also hooked to a tree strap as soon as I’m seated. I see lots of guys that don’t use lifelines for ladder stands

First-light
No life line but harness when in it. It's not a bad idea. I fell two years ago climbing down. Probably 8 foot or so landed on my side. Arm was sore along with neck but I was fine.

GreeneHunter
I do not use a lifeline , but when I'm in my ladder stand I bring the bar down in front of me and at that point I'm secure .... great place to take a Nap !

My brother in law used to use a harness but gave it up because of the bar. I'm still a fan of the harness but it did get in the way when I had shot at that big buck.
landtracdeerhunter
I used a retraction system a few times. Nearly made me fall. It became my pull up rope.

Ha-ha-ha-ha.....I'm more paranoid than you. My feet don't leave the ground while hunting.....ever anymore. I came down out of the trees quite a few years ago. It's a "heights" thing. My last tree stand was a 5' x 5' platform only 12 feet off the ground, and a railing all the way around. Eventually even all that wasn't enough and I found that I could not shoot my bow while both arms were wrapped around the tree. No I don't do tree stands anymore, and I'm actually more excited about hunting when I am on the ground, eyeball to eyeball with the deer. Yes, hunting from the ground is a bit of a handicap, but it does increase the challenge and the excitement. And I don't have to worry about lifelines.
Tughill Tamer
No I don't use a harness or lifeline in a tree stand not that it's a bad idea I just never have. I like GreeneHunter just drop the bar when I'm settled. I won't sit a tree stand without the shooting rail.Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk 1

surmn8er
Definitely use a lifeline each and every time I leave the ground regardless of stand type. I’ve fallen 2x and not doing it again.
fasteddie
They say most accidents happen within 25 miles of home . That's why I drive 50 miles away to hunt . 1
Gobbler Chaser
I'll be cleaning the leaves outta my gutters about every week till they're down on my two story house without a lifeline. So no I don't use one in a 18 ft ladder stand

Steve D
As a rule I only used one ladder stand and it had a lifeline. Everything else was primarily out of a climber. I always had the safety harness on and was tethered to the tree going up and coming down. It only takes one wrong move and your life can be ruined forever.
Paula
Somebody that used to be on the site and I think he's still a member here and over at the other one. Fell from a ladder stand, I don't remember the circumstance. He truly is the reason that I use one Edited October 19 by Paula
Steve D
Buffalo man killed in hunting accident in East Otto Troopers responded to Plato Road in East Otto around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday to check the welfare of a hunter. Police said an investigation determined that 54-year-old Mark P. Scanlon went hunting off Plato Road and did not return to his vehicle. Scanlon was found dead in a wooded area from an apparent fall from a portable tree stand. There were no signs of foul play and his body was taken to Olean General.
