Muslim holidays

Recommended Posts

And spring recess fluctuates from March to April, depending on when Easter actually occurs every year.  I guess Spring comes at a different time each year too.  That's why they call it Spring Break, because it cannot have anything to do with a religious observance.  It's timed to allow time off for it, but it cannot acknowledge it.

Does private sector give all other religious based holidays their time off? I actually do not know...I do know they aren't doing what has become bogus presidential birthdays off as Government agancies do...as convenient 3 day weekends.

Yes and no. The actual policy depends on the company. Some companies have eliminated President's Day as a paid day off. However, they have replaced it with a "personal" day off. Much of the reason behind this is due to the "diversity" which is behind the policy which started this thread.

Certain holidays are set. Christmas, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc. Then there are a set number of "personal" days which the employee can take. Celebrate Yom Kippur? Take that day off. Celebrate All Saint's Day? Take that instead. Celebrate nothing at all? Take whatever day you like. That's how it works in all the large corporations I deal with.

I say do away with all of it ..it's become foolisheness...Want your day off...take an unpayed day or a sick day. There are so many religious holidays now, eventually everyone one would get their day off or allow one or two payed personal days off and let the person decide...and really why should, ie...my kids miss a day of school because of some one elses beliefs and vise versa...Why should my mail be delayed because of one or two dead presidents out of over 40+..or religious observances of others?

It is a good point, but the "days off" thing is not only cemented in tradition it is also a "supply and demand" issue. Just like health plans, retirement benefits, stock options, etc., vacation time, sick days and holiday/personal days are part of the employment package. Some have better packages to hopefully attract better applicants.

To the original point. I don't see what the big issue is. This is no different than in any NY public school I have attended or been involved with. A quick look at the calendar of a local, large LI school district:

http://www.halfhollowhills.k12.ny.us/page.cfm?p=977737

They have "Christmas" recess (separate from "Winter" recess") and "Easter" recess (NOT Spring Break). The also observe the three big Jewish holy days. As the population of that district is primarily Christian and Jewish, this makes perfect sense. No one in the school is making anyone perform a religious service... they are simply closing on those days, as they have done for as long as I can remember.

Ok, now that you got your jollies, we all know about the Nazi's, but they were associated with Fascism more than religion.  They did not use any religious teachings in their laws or their government dictates.  They did not kill because of religion, they killed because of economics and vengeance.  They did not quote from the Bible to force non-believers to convert to Christianity.  They were a plague on the world and the whole world rallied against them to defeat them.

Problem solved.  Now this is the 21st century.  Are you saying we should not address the Muslim issue now?

Are there recent examples of true Christian atrocites coming out of the Vatican that you would care to inform everyone about?

Yes we should address the Muslim extremists issue.

Are you advocating rounding up all Muslims & putting them in concentration camps? Or should we just kill 'em all?

Start with Mohammed Al, he's real threat..

Still waiting on your answer.

This thread doesn't surprise me at all! Like always we have a group of people who have their eyes shut on an issue and continue to not listen to facts and reason.

Anyone who thinks we don't give time off for religious holidays is crazy, no matter how we put it on paper. The only problem people have is weather or not we should give time off for students to observe a Muslim holiday like we do for rush. And Yom Kippur. And anyone who think that Muslim leaders haven't spoken out against ISIS is completely delirious. What do you think cnn does every time something crazy Isis does...they bring out an imam or a community leader to speak out against it.

I can remember when opening day of deer season was considered a 'holiday'.

In PA, back in the '50s & '60s  it was an excused day off from school.

In '68, I worked in the  "Scotty" travel trailer factory in Arron, PA & you were asked if you wanted to work Tuesday though Friday on catch up work as production stopped & everyone was off on the Monday after Thanksgiving, the opener of the PA deer season.

Many UAW contracts in Michigan had the 1st day of "hunting" season as a negotiated holiday..

This is my answer:

"While it’s hard to ascertain the exact level of Muslim immigration, it’s very clear the level of immigration is rapidly increasing.  According to numbers crunched by the Center for Immigration Studies based on data from the Census Bureau’s Factfinder database, the immigrant population from predominantly Muslim countries has grown from 1.7 million in 2000 to 2.7 million in 2013."

You'll have to figure out your own strategy soon enough.  I suspect you will just cave and join them.

Gee, ya think the instability of the Middle-east since the war we started in Iraq for Halliburton profits might have something to do with it? Perhaps we should limit immigration but that wasn't the question I posed to you.

And as usual you dodge the question. The question wasn't about "Muslim immigration numbers but what YOU think we should do with those the are already here.

HERE YOU GO

It's the Obama administration that wants the Arab nations to fight ISIS. The Republican war mongers want to put "boots on the ground". Evidently, Halliburton needs a boost in revenue..

When these neighboring Muslim countries do nothing when they have the most to lose tells you where their sympathies lie...

Deport them as subversives and undesirables at every opportunity, just like Liberal Progressives want to do to Christians.

BTW, why are Liberals not up in arms about the millions of Christians Muslims are murdering around the world?

Liberal Terminology:

Christian: A party to hate because one can't serve the master Christian God and serve the socialism master of government.

Some "community leader" that CNN might pay to "speak out" against ISIS is not the same as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt etc sending in troops to squash these bastards

When you lump all Muslims in with Muslim extremism, that is bringing religion & religious bigotry into the arena.

Do I have to point out Christians doing the same sort of things? Would you want to be judged by the actions of Christian extremists?

Where are these "Christian extremists"??? the ones blowing up abortion clinics and killing doctors?  Their in jail thats where not running countries

Seems like it is the "conservatives" that want to deport Christian Mexicans, not the "liberals".

As for liberal outrage"?

Only the Mexicans who are here illegally.  That has nothing to do with religion.  Democrats only support their illegality expecting to get their votes.

Liberal outrage?  That column was written by Ronald S. Lauder, the president of the World Jewish Congress.  Far from a Leftist Progressive.  I doubt he sides with the ideology that hates and ignores Israel.

Lauder has also served as a Finance Chairman of the New York State Republican Committee.

Oh excuse me, I didn't realize you wanted to deport "legal Muslim immigrants". I suppose that includes US citizens that are naturalized Muslim immigrants too?

When it comes to Israel, Jews are conservative and will side with anyone who is pro-Israel, but as a whole Jews in this country are very LIBERAL and have been for a LONG time.  Sure you'll find a Jew who is conservative on all issues here or there, but the majority of them are very LIBERAL.  If you would poll them on the issues that are near and dear to the conservatives persons heart, I'm sure most of you here would not like what you saw.

Not what I said.  I said at every opportunity.  Illegals for sure.  Subversives and criminals as well, be they legal or not.

And that includes US citizens?

Are we to have Muslim loyalty trials? All of this is reminding me of Joe McCarthy.

So when the Egyptian government comes out and condemns Isis that's doesn't matter? Even the Taliban and hesbola have been fighting against ISIS. The thing is that many of you guys believe that Muslims come from the middle eastern countries when In fact those are just a fraction of the Muslim population. These countries just happen to be some of the most extreme countries out there when. MANY IF NOT MOST of the Muslim countries have condemned ISIS. But what does that do when some of you guys believe that they're terrorists anyway.

adjective
1. forbidden by law or statute.
2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.:
The referee ruled that it was an illegal forward pass.
noun
3. informal. illegal alien
