Does anyone have experience with odorless bow oil?  I'd like to add some lubricant to the cam pins, which have a faint squeak when drawing the string. 

 

I've also read that vegetable oil is a suitable alternative, but I'm curious to learn of other bowhunters' experiences using one, the other, or both.

just use a light thin oil.  there's other things that will give off more scent with your bow setup like your release strap, wrist sling, etc. that most don't pay any attention to.

FYI - Below is from Hoyt's owner's manual (Note the "...light, spot lubrication...". meaning a drop or two per cam's pivot. How much odor can that produce???). This is a more critical maintenance item in compound type crossbows with their shorter limbs, 12-14" draw length and aggressive cams than in the traditional compound bows. Unless you're still stubbornly hanging on to your old, original Bear Whitetail Hunter bow. LOL

 

"A light, spot lubrication of the axles where they pass through the wheel/cam should be done on a regular basis (1,500-2,000 shots). In adverse hunting conditions where dirt, dust, and moisture are encountered, lubrication may be done on a daily basis. Hoyt recommends that you use a silicone or Teflon based lubrication or any other quality grease available at your local Hoyt Pro Shop. It is not recommended that you use "penetrating oils" such as WD-40, EZ #7, Fast Break, etc. Note: Cam & 1/2 System bows feature sealed stainless steel ball bearings which do not require lubrication."

I have always used RemOil it seems to do a good job.  You would want something  thin, and not get stiff in cold weather, and  not gum up. I do not remember the name of the oil , haven't seen it since the mid 80's it was great, it even had Teflon in it.

I use a dry spray lubricant, dries to a white powder that is scent free. Started using it when I bought my crossbow a couple years ago. Before that, I always used Tri-Flow. It can be found in almost any hardware store. It's not scent free but it's one of the best lubricants you can buy, and works great for firearms as well.

      New hunter to NY here. Found some public land to hunt, it’s a WMA. I wish I read the regs more thoroughly because I threw up a ladder stand yesterday and today when I was re-reading them, I saw you can’t put temporary stands on WMAs, only on state forests and other such state land. I honestly didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to, I even put my name and license # on the stand. I was going to go take it down tomorrow but it’s an hour drive so I wanted to ask, what do DEC officers do if they find a ladderstand like mine on a WMA? Is this an automatic fine or whatever? Will they just call me and tell me to come get it? Confiscate? How often do officers go through areas like WMAs and check for stands? Any info would be helpful. I’ll still probably go take it down tomorrow, although I have seen other stands up on the WMA, I just prefer to stay on the right side of the law myself. Thanks!

      Maybe im jumpin the gun a bit quick but.....
      As the 2019 deer season is coming fast and the live from the woods thread is going to light up like a christmas tree(better train this kid at work fast so i can follow up on all the deer porn)...The quickly approaching season has got new topics popping up and me getting antsy sooo......
      Is there anyone with a new approach to this years season different from the past?
      Different preparations for the season,etc.
      Accomplishment's/goals you are shooting for in the 2019 season?
      Shorter/longer sits etc.
       
      A few of mine..
      1.Prep by shooting as much as possible
      2.Spend as much time as i can in my "happy place"(always been my peaceful place)
      3.Get my first mount done so i can hang it on the wall at the first house(bare spot!)
      4.Get neccessary equipment for processing my own deer in the garage(needs a good cleanin before opening day!!)
      5.See the smile on Jay's(turkeyfeathers) face with his first bow harvest!!!!
      6.Be blessed and thankful to be able to spend time in the great outdoors.cherish every moment of the woods coming alive at day break(g/f doesnt understand it!!!)<<but im ok with that
      This year has flew by and season will be here before we know it.This post is a bit early but im pumped and ready for some woods time!!!!
