My Girlfriend shot her first bird.... I made a pretty cool video of anyone would like to check it out

Congrats on her first and nice video.  I'm afraid to open the windows that much in our pop up blind for fear of getting busted.  If I may without sounding like a DB suggest she watches the direction of the business end of that boomstick. In the moment "safety " may have been forgotten to be clicked back on with all the excitement.  Maybe it's just the camera zoom and angle  What kind of specs on that bird? New York? Have no sound on work computer so maybe it was said.

So darn close this morning.  Uggghh. At least we had the fun of actually working a solo Tom.  Only second time seeing one.  Neighbor gave us permission to go chase him as Phade heard him gobbling a good 300yds away in their field.  Got him to 50ish yards and he cut into woodlot never to be seen again.  Butterball it is.

Had that happen yesterday with three different longbeards. They put on a good show at least. Stay after them.

the pileated again ?

that shot ring off back in the corner?

Yes Pileated and no im in my blind shot came from directly across from the blind in that grass ditch property

25 minutes from me calling I bet there was a Tom working that ditch. I'd like to think he was looking for me but that's just a thought. Lots of tracks in the mud clover plot on the right side that was a good sign and water has somewhat reduced

Congrats on her first bird! One thing I find interesting is with lead they always flop around a bunch, but with the hevi-shot i use they maybe flop a few times maximum.

Met my cousin at the farm this morning. We decided to split up to hit both sides of the property.  Heard him shoot around 5:30. I guess he got a little to close to them. He sat down and looked up only to see two birds in the next tree. Oops..

Dont know how, but they never heard or seen him, and a few min later he had a front row seat to one of mother natures finest shows. Two toms on a limb strutting, drumming and gobbling. They flew down into the field and it only took a few clucks to get him in range. He was in half strut when he shot, so he messed up the fan really good.

I had a tom gobble probably 50 times on roost 80yd from me. He flew down and was quickly escorted away by some hens.  20 min later I see a lone tom headed my way. Being he was alone, I was hoping it was the big guy I've been after, but the field grass was too tall to see his spurs.  Decided to take him, and dropped him at 30yd. Turned out to be a decent 2yr old. Not the best pic, but it's all I got.

First pic is my cousin holding his bird. My bird lying where he dropped.

OK, I went to feed the chickens and decided to brave the black flies to build another brush blind. I found the perfect tree ,wide the root space  fits my Danny perfect and flat but just a little  high . It faces the back of ridge blind ,is half way between the CBB and the ridge and allows for my left handed swing to cover everything between both. That fly down this morning would have had that Bird nearly in my lap . It also.cleaned up the strutting  area and the fly down area for them..which could help. It's right where the Tom hung up the other day when I had the decoys out..nice clean 5 yrd trail off the path to it.   It's worth a try if he just doesn't mess up their roosting . Didn't hear any shots but then again I was sound asleep before I got my 3rd sip of coffee...12:30 bed up at 3:30..I'm definitely not 40 any more...Lol.

YOUNG GOBBLER DOWN--YOUNG GOBBLER DOWN!!!

Well good members, my turkey hunting slump is OVER! This young tom was taken with my woodsmanship skills and knowledge of a fav hiking trail. A light rain this morning and I walked some hardwoods where I know gobblers have roosted last Spring. Over 1 mile to get back here and I had 2 double slates with me. A chestnut one and one of black walnut. No answer to either one and I had just enough time to stroke out some yelps before they got wet. Next, I brought out my sweet clucker wingbone. A gobbling reply to that wingbone!! They were moving away though and I thought for sure a hen was leading her gobbler away from me. I had to work my way back up to the field and get on the trail. I wanted to get ahead of those two. It took another 20 minutes and I was just about to enter the hardwoods again and sit and wait when I looked down the curve of the trail and saw 3 gobblers on the trail 25 yards away!! They were facing away and all 3 heads were down as they were pecking up small gizzard stones. One saw me - but I was more then ready. the gobbler on the extreme right moved away from the other 2 and I fired. NO MISS THIS TIME.   Good head shot and it took quite a while for him to stop flipping around. A nice jake of 14lbs with a little 4" beard and  spurs just over a 1/4".

I took him at 6.35am this morning on public land.  And you know members -any gobbler-young or old--heavy or light- if a turkey hunter walks out with a gobbler on public land-- that is a true trophy!    I have one more shot in NEW JERSEY next Saturday and then that permit is no longer any good. Happy as Hell that I did not head down to N.J. this morning!!!

That's fantastic... Glad you broke the slump.

Congrats to all...

Yesterday morning there were birds all over on the property I was hunting...Saw several, heard at least three different gobblers..

This morning it was quiet as a morgue...

That's turkey hunting...Tomorrow is another day...

Good luck to all...

Today was supposed to originally be raining and nope. Just drove by 3 hens and 2 strutters that my buddy and I tried working other morning. Just around the corner from his house.  Problem is they're on wrong side of Ellicott creek. I tried to be first hen on ground other day so they'd pitch down over it. Once their on the ground it becomes much difficult Once had a bird gobble on other side of creek a good 80x on the ground. He eventually came crashing thru the trees across and landed almost in my lap and scared the crud out of me. Quick strut and I had to snap shoot him. Took off half his beard. Oops
