What to do?

So last night I had a limb failure at full draw.  No injuries thank goodness.  But bad news is that it's my hunting bow.  I know the manufacturer will make it right but since they are more than 4 months out on new orders and these limbs have to be made, it's unlikely I will have the replacements by the season.  I have some 38lb practice limbs I put on for now.  But even as a higher than normal performing recurve, 38lb is pretty light and I just don't shoot the light limbs as well.  They show every form flaw which is why they are great for practice but not as forgiving. I either have to dedicate this next month to practicing with the light limbs or go back to my compound. Not liking either option. Could have been much worse all things considered.    Gotta love these challenges   Lol

So today I just played around trying to get the 38lb limbs tuned.  Not quite there but did have fun flinging arrows at 40yds.  It was like taking a time out waiting for them to land.  I even hit a few bulls but missed more than I hit.  Deer are safe at 40yds with those limbs.   565g arrows moving at a whopping 163fps.

Maybe be I can borrow my daughters bow.

I feel your pain. My new hunting bow is down and out too...waiting on my new set of string/cables to get here...haven't shot in a week!!!

You need help installing, let me know.  60x usually turns strings around quick.  Where did you order?

I know I can use the compound so it's not a huge issue.   Just not my preference.

Hopefully, the local shop can get me tuned up. Was getting a pretty good left tear with it before. I should get the equipment to do my own. You know how to yoke tune a hybrid cam?

I had a bowtech that I yoke tuned.  Been a while but yes I could figure it out.

That is rough, I would check and test the compound simply as a backup.  With you shooting the other bow as you do I would imagine the compound would be on target at those distances.

Just dusted it off and shot it.  I was about 2" low at both 20 and 40yds but otherwise good.  Probably a slight string stretch over time and dropping the gang sight will bring it in.  Could be my anchor is off too.  It's been a long time since I have really put time in with the compound.

I would use the compound. Think the chance of wounding a deer with the light limbs is to great IMHO.

Yes 38# will kill a deer if hit through the boiler room, but at 168 fps one step at 15 yrd and it's a bad hit.

You are probably right.  That speed is actually decent for a heavy arrow with a recurve but the power is questionable.

Oh come on. That limb isn't that bad. Nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix.

Welcome back to the dark side with the compound!

Seriously though, that is tough to swallow, with your main bow down this close to season. Are there any other hunting limbs you could put on there to get through the season?

I tried duct tape.  Seemed to lose some speed.  Lol.

No limbs except the 38lbers on this bow.  It's a bolt down.  The compound will be fine if I can't get replacements in time.  Heck I just extended my range by 20yds.  What a great break, pun intended.

What is the maker of the bow? I know if it is a custom alot of the makers will have extra limbs around and might be able to send you a pair for the meantime.

Custom to the Nth degree.

Bad break, but he will be fine with the compound. Doubt this particular maker has limbs chilling on a shelf.

Are they Border limbs by chance?

Not looking to bash the manufacturer as it is doing what is required to fix the issue as promptly as is possible.   Can't ask more than that.  I will say that the bow shot like no other before this incident and I have owned quite a few.  I will happily shoot the replacements when they arrive.  It appears it should be in time for season opener.

Ya sucks man good luck with the compound. All kidding aside did that scare the living crap out of you when that happened?

I am too slow of mind to be scared.  It was more of a, "what the heck just happened" followed by check my face and body for damage - ok who are we kidding, I was checking the bow first, then my face and body.  Finally I had to look for the arrow to see if I damaged my house, but it took me a while to get there.  All is fine, except the limbs, which will be replaced.

Best part was my wife's comment - well you pull it back so hard no wonder it broke.

couple years ago i had a Bear Super Kodiak delaminate right before the season. Bear said throw it at a deer or we can just send you a new one.  So i got a new one.  Same thing though i had to use my compound and get it back up and going during the season.  Problem is by then tags were filled and the compound was hung up.

After seeing you shoot tonight, you should be just fine blowing up limbs on your own.  Holy smokes do you have a long draw.  Never seen arrows shoot so hard from a 40ish pound bow.  Those deer have no chance.   Not to mention, you are a natural.  Look forward to seeing a deer down photo with the recurve.
