tughillmcd
How many people are not registered to vote? If you are not Why? Voting is the biggest thing everyone can do to ensure their part of the process and their voice is heard. I hear all the time "My Vote Doesn't Count" "We Can't Outvote Downstate" Well the truth of the matter is only 30% of NYers vote. That holds true Downstate as much as Upstate. If 10% more upstate people voted, the tide would turn. The myth that upstate can't beat downstate is part of the media hype that keeps people from the polls. If you are not registered, tomorrow is the deadline to be eligible to vote on November 7th. Please register. It takes less than 5 minutes online. Lets make 2017 a year that upstate begins to be heard. Please Register and Please Vote.https://www.dmv.org/ny-new-york/voter-registration.php

dbHunterNY
Mario Cuomo lost because it was a low voter turn out year but some more people upstate got to the polls. They have the the numbers to out vote us but the precedent for a long long time now has been that few actually vote. Cuomo as the standing governor only beat Astorino 54 - 40% in the general election. Astorino was unknown before that election. 2018 Cuomo should be getting the boot which would pave the way for a more hunting friendly NY. i'm registered to vote under a minor party and part of local committees for that party. minor party nominations to either major party candidate can make or break the election for them. Jdubs
The last Governor's race had the worst turnout ever so it becomes a self-fufilling prophecy for non-Democrat party line voters to stay home and say, "My vote won't matter anyway". It's sad to hear such people freely sacrifice one of their most important Rights. There is no doubt that the local races are very dependent on each and every vote. Our last Town Supervisor literally won by one single vote. I'd encourage every eligible person to cast their vote. It matters.

Yup, if upstate voters got out to the polls it would make a huge difference in the outcome of the election. The biggest thing on the ballot coming up this Nov. is the constitutional convention. If allowed it could mean the end to the State retirements and jobs it could become all privatized along with education meaning those that send their kids to public schools could be required to pay a tuition really impacting the blue collar or middle class of NY. There is no need for a "Con Con" to amend the state constitution it can be done now through state legislature.
grampy
I've voted every year since 1975. Really, 'EVERY' vote matters, and is so very precious. Please don't waste the the golden opportunity, each and every citizen has, to voice "THEIR" opinion. Get out and vote!

Im not seeing how this would be a bad thing. Schools are one of the biggest scams going. where is education a "right". Why should i have my income stolen to pay for some entitled lazy POS attend school. Have you seen what a FAILURE our schools are. Threatening "blue collar workers to now having fund there own child's education is also a lie as you would now have your school tax dollars to do just that. Only now you would have a choice and say in your childs education instead of being forced into liberal indoctrination centers. You are clearly supporting socialism and against privatization. Its seems pretty obvious who pays your salary.
Rebel Darling
I'm registered, and I vote in every election, from local to national. I'm registered independent, which means I don't get a vote in private party primaries.

Its seems pretty obvious who pays your salary. It was a right when they enacted the "No child left behind act" being that no child can refuse an education. I won't get into this on this thread and de-rail but the Con Con can have a drastic effect on state agencies and public services. You're right my salary is paid by NYS and not enough for what I have to deal with or do. Saying I'm supporting socialism is ignorant along with saying schools are failures. The only failures are the idiots that allow their kids to become entitled and never have to work for anything. The blue collar workers and middle class will be impacted the most from the Con Con than any others. Those living off the system don't have to deal with it and the elites won't care as they will get their tax breaks from their buddy Cuomo's programs. I'll add this last part, how many republican special interest groups are out there now compare that to the democratic special interest groups and which have a bigger pull? Yeah we complain about NYC running all of NY what do you think is going to happen if there is a Con Con. You're an idiot if you think upstate will benefit from it. Doewhacker
Interesting topic. Here are some good reads, in the second you can see the incredible decline in voter turnout. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2014/11/cuomo_wins_ny_but_loses_upstate.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_gubernatorial_elections

Doc
I have not missed an election in the 54 years that I have been eligible. Registered to the Conservative party because that has always reflected my primary values and most of my core principles. All of that and I still live in a commie state represented by all these people that seem to feel bad that we have any rights at all left. But, I can truthfully say that I had no part in electing these clowns. At least the local elections always seem to come out the way that I vote. Small victories here and there .... lol.

How are Convention Delegates selected? How many wind up being politicians that work to protect their gravy train and take more away from the people? How many are selected by the Party Bosses? How many are actually going to work for the changes the people believe should be made?
