"Crotch Rocket" motorcycles

Riding motorcycles ( next to Hunting of course) is one of favorite things to do. My son's ride and I grew up riding with my dad and brother. There is a local sport bike group here locally made up largely of young huligans and they ride like crazy. Wheelies and triple digit speeds are the Norm. I fear they are going to kill someone or themselves. Me I ride for relaxation.

I have had 2 bikes over the last 15 years....started out with a Zx-6 Kawasaki ninja cause I had to be cool....my Dad is a life long Harley guy who said if I ever get a speeding ticket for excessivly dangerous speeds don't bother bringing the bike home.....just sell it! Just had to do it once....so coming out of Springville on RT. 39 I hammered that bike and hit sometjimg like 112....deff a white knuckle experience and never needed to try it again.

Since then I have had a Harley....now with two young boys my view on life has changed a bit and hopefully in the near future I can move on from the bike and get a UTV that will be much more fun for the whole family.

A very loud crotch rocket goes down this country road a few times a week, going as fast as they can. The level of noise is annoying and I'm not sure why they don't get a ticket for noise and going that fast on a country road where any critter can pop out onto the road at anytime is not wise. I still ride, but we always hear about riders hitting deer each year so I go slow and am on high alert.

I'll never forget the time I was riding my  24" Schwinn  down a steep hill and a sheath knife that was  hanging from a belt on my handlebars  swung into the spokes !

That was the end of MY biker days....I can still remember picking the gravel out of my forearms...

The places and trouble we got into via peddle power as a kid were epic.

One thing we did (and I hope that the statute of limitations has been met) was ride our banana bikes off the spillway top into Canadice Lake.  We'd tie a rope onto them prior to the starting gun  and then haul 'em in, seaweed and all.  You had to jump away from them before hitting the water as those handlebars could rip your nuts from the sack like nothing........ :)

My buddies dad welded a box on the front of his bike for holding night crawlers.  I was green with envy as just about any 12 year old would be......

Banana seats hadn't been invented yet....Handlebar baskets and coon tails, rather than orange flags were more the fashion...

The problem with "crotch rockets"s, is that for relatively little money inexperienced kids can buy a machine with incredible acceleration and speed without the maturity to control it. Even worse, the owners so often have the poor judgement to take their girlfriends out on them with zero riding protection, the cheapest possible helmets, without any experience or instruction riding two up. Most of the CR club don't stick with bikes. They have too close a call and take up a new hobbie.

Crotch Rocket - I really hate that term. I don’t know why just do. I ride an older “crotch rocket” (shudder) a 95 I bought in the early 2000’s. Never did anything stupid on it. Just like every group of people the bad ones stick out more than the good ones.

Just today coming home from the Adirondacks going through Old Forge I had a sport bike behind me about 10 cars back. I watched as he slowly picked his way though traffic only passing in a passing zone and never passed more than one car at a time. I left plenty of room between me and the car in front for me for him to fit in. After he made that move he had 2 cars until freedom. Me personally I would have passed them both in the long straight all in one shot but nope he picked them off one by one ever so slowly.

Ends up we both turn into the same gas station in Rome NY just before the 90. He was in no hurry just minding his own business and following the traffic laws. Not much of a story to tell so only you guys will hear of it.

Funny seeing this thread, since on Saturday I was out on my ATV , and was parked on the side of the road by an intersection.   I was stretching my legs resting, and heard a bike rev up, and I was like WTF is that.  It was so loud, then zooom, this guy on a sport bike went by so fast, he had to be going 120 or so, it was so loud, and fast, it was almost scary.  I must admit, it was cool to see.  Its still illegal,  but at least it was an extreme rural area of the Adirondacks,  and not a male sex organ lane filtering in traffic.

no bikes here. have kids now.  i think it's all of the above. idiots take all forms, sizes, and ages riding any kind of bike.  "crotch rockets" can carve a clean back country road handling like a wet dream compared to a hog/traditional style motorcycle. i've had badass harley guys do similar dumb stuff though like weave in and out of traffic, riding bumpers.  rush isn't worth it as often anymore and i'm only 34.  i've seen deer severed in two with halves in either ditch. i've seen someone wheelie over backwards on a main street and send the bike past us and into a crowded sidewalk. harley burnouts that got grip and had riders learn to fly like a bird.  known of some sending it into a jersey barrier. even see a bike get rear ended at a stop light.  i don't care who you are on what bike either. it's easy to "cruise along" and then have an oh s*&^ moment realizing how fast you're going. all that said it's just enjoyable despite the risk driving one. even a smaller 600cc displacement higher performance "crotch rockets" can go way over 100 mph and fast enough to make your fingers tingle.
