Anti Bacteria Products, Attractants & Cover Scents

Recommended Posts

What kind of scent soaps, shampoos do you'all like?  I've tried quit a few different ones over the years. Last few years, it's been Hunter Specialties bar soap, laundry soap, and the body, hair shampoo. Works get to shave with too, LOL.

The orange and white bottle say it all for attractants., Deer Dander.

I hunt the wind but do still use unscented soap and laundry detergent.   Can’t hurt.  I used the green soap last year.  I think Hunters specialties and some big name brand detergent that has no color or uv enhancer.   Cheer free I thInk.

Used to laugh at the bow hunters decades ago that were OCD about scent control. AND ... now I'm one, to a certain $$ level. If I'm going to wash my hunting clothing, keep it seperated from household odors and take my morning shower anyways, why not use soaps that "might" help w/o breaking the bank?? JMO, my only extravagance is the additional pre-hunt spray-down. Got into this mode ~15yrs ago when I began hunting a property that was difficult to hunt the wind due to the size, shape,  orientation & historic deer movement around it. Does it help, maybe!?! Gives me the confidence to hunt where & when I want and to some extent a degree of success. Will I be carrying an Ozonics on each hunt - NO!!! Do I get sucked-in to all the marketing of new scent-free products - NO!!

Attractants - No longer spend any money on them. Wish I had all the $$ in hand I've squandered on them over the years. More power to those that have had success using scent attractants!!!

In august I have a little side shed that I will hang all my scent free washed hunting gear in to be ready for season.  I do use scent free shampoo as its the same cost as regular so why not.  Ive had many a deer walk under and around me on stand and even in my wind and have gotten away with it.  I def play the wind to the letter though as i think that is a bigger advantage but sometimes they dont read the rules and come in the opposite way.  I also spray down before i go into hunt.  Now does all of this stuff work?  dunno but for $4 for a bottle of shampoo, $2 for scent free deodorant, and maybe $15 in spray for a season I will take the chance and use it.

Me and my hunting buddy hunt the same ground at our lease - last season I saw 10 times the deer the did and I had does at 4 yards walking around me that he wouldve loved to get a shot at.

this year I have an ozonics bag that the GF got me for xmas.  Gonna give that a try on my clothes esp in between the Am and Pm hunt.  I have it, why not use it, and take any advantage possible.

We have used a ozonics closet for two seasons now. Works great. Got the idea from someone on here that owned a motel.

A lot of car dealerships use the ozonics as well inside the vehicles to get out smell.  Im in , gonna use it for sure.

has got to be something different that me and my hunting buddy do and I would guess scent control, as I finally talked him into playing the wind and not going with ...."got feeling" on which stand to hunt last year.

I’m a big believer in unscented body wash and deodorant. I hunt on ground and have has deer eating the Bush I’m sitting against or literally walk 5 feet away from me. At that point it has nothing to do wind, I believe it’s scent control and no movement (except my hand video taping with my cell phone lol)

I have always used wildlife research stuff, but I also have a shed that my hunting clothes  hang in all year round. Only time they come in the house is to get washed then right back out they go to hang dry. no dryer.. i have had the best luck with deer dander as a cover scent, we all tried ever calm last year and it didn’t seem to work as well as deer dander..

i believe in scent reduction not scent elimination. i've used everything and deer can still smell you. i practice scent control by planning access to stands, hunting with wind direction and thermals in mind, and also not touching everything where i am.  if i'm already taking a shower and washing clothes why not use better stuff for the job?  i've stuck to HS green shampoo and body wash. for clothing i've been using dead down wind detergent that's carbon clothing compatible. i also use dead down wind field spray. i've got an ozone-go for the truck.

I use Dead Down Wind. I dont think it completely gets rid of scent, just cuts down on it. I also started using that deer herd in a stick stuff on my boots just before I walk in. I had deer sniffing where I walked last year and they dint become alarmed at all, so Ill call that stuff a win.

There is NOTHING you can buy, that will make you scent free to a deer! But there are things that will help to reduce the amount of scent you give off.

I shower with the green HS body soap. Use Arm and Hammer scentless deodorant. Wash hunting clothes in a scentless non UV detergent. And store them in airtight totes with dried leaves in a pillow case.

I will spray down with the Dead Downwind before entering to hunt.

Years ago, I gave up on using attraction scents. I feel they did more harm than good for me. But, a couple years ago I tried "Evercalm" in a stick. And I've seen it work time and time again! I hunt 90% from the ground. And have watched deer cross over my trail with "Evercalm" on my boots and not once became alarmed!!  In 45 years of deer hunting, I've never seen something work as good for a cover scent! Also use it around trail cams.

That being said, number one, above all else, HUNT THE WIND! Pay close attention to changing thermals! Play the wind on entry, even if it's a longer, more difficult walk in!  If the wind changes to the deer's favor, MOVE! You will only tip the deer off to your presence with your scent blowing to them!  As I said, there is NOTHING you can do, to be scent free from a deer!

Well you are cheating with a ground blind.  Probably covers your scent too.  Way worse that sitting in a stand.

If you didn’t get that nice buck 2-3 years ago from a tree, I wouldn’t have bought a ground blind or a compound. So when it’s all said and done, this is all your fault!

Not only that, I now double cheat by having blinds in the sky.  lol

Now that you mention it, compounds are cheating too!

blinds arent cheating by me- I hate them. I have tried using them a few times and i hate sitting in them.  Except on days its pouring but chances are i wouldnt hunt those days.  But treestands i love those.  I have 14 of them setup for the season.

I prefer open stands too unless the weather is miserable or I have a 9yr old tagging along.
