squirrelwhisperer
Upstate, downstate, none of that Is what’s important. This is about containment. As an “Islander” I agree with BM7600. I came out here to get away form the crap in the Burroughs. IMHO, sending the infected from a high concentration area “down here” to a low concentration area “up there” is counterintuitive. Why risk making more healthy people sick? This is about beds, more to the point, the lack there of, right? I say all possibilities be exhausted first. Start with the stadiums. There are no sports now right? Put beds there. Lots of beds in all the empty hotels too. The next hurtle becomes hospital equipment. Has anyone tried to purchase an early 1940’s automobile? You can’t. Why?? Because they weren’t made. ALL the auto manufacturers were helping the war effort. Mandate they do that now. Re-tool and make hospital equipment. Finally, the inmates. They fit where they were, leave them there. We need to lock down until this blows over once and for all or it will perpetuate. BizCT
In our main retirement account we were down (at the close of business yesterday) 13%........Don’t feel bad about 13%. It could be way worse, but you are probably in more conservative funds- which is smart for your age. Not an age joke, but being serious. Too many people stay aggressive late and it hurts them. I personally know someone who is 64 and was about to retire in the Fall. This market crash cost him $1.7M, and it’s not like he was sitting on $10M either. Big mistake and now he won’t be retiring Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Marion
In our main retirement account we were down (at the close of business yesterday) 13%........As long as you aren't retiring in the next year or so you'll be fine. This time next year things should be back to normal and the market at levels it was prior to this Kung Fu FluSent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk
wjay1552
To the point I made yesterday the state is not using its resources to its fullest extent. I live within 25 minutes of Binghamton and there plan if the hospitals get overrun is to add 50 beds in the Broome county Arena. Meanwhile SUNY Binghamton with thousands of vacant rooms sits 3 miles away. King Andy and the other politicians trying to make there name because of this terrible virus need to use common sense. A little logical thinking and they would secure these votes they covet so bad with real leadership. Also again this highly contagious virus does not need to be spread all over the state. Cancer is not contagious and shouldn’t be compared to what is going on regardless of what some slobs may feel.

Went from assisted living to the hospital. She is a cancer patient also. So with that said she is getting better each day. She has 10 more days of isolation until she can come home. They gave her Tylenol not advil for the fever. She is tough and we are so lucky! Will be rooting for her to keep up a good fight.

grampy
Moving the virus around from hot spots, to not spots is a dumb idea. And if I should get the virus, last thing I'd want is to be moved a hundred or more miles away from my family. Even though I'd be quarantined, I'd still feel better knowing they were close.

Rattler
I read today Rhode Island is pulling over cars with NY plates and putting the occupants in 90 day quarantine per the Governors Executive Order. He doesn't want people from the city coming to their 2nd homes and bringing the virus with them. ACLU is really upset about that, but he's doing it. left field
She. Fear of the unknown is a hell of a thing. I experienced quite a bit in the last few weeks as did everyone else. The cancer example may not be the most apt. I guess there are people here not that far removed from the holocaust where those who harboured, succored, aided Jews did so at the risk of imprisonment or death. And yet, many did. Personally, I’m not that far from 911 and Gander where in the fear and unknown of that day the little town took in 6700 people in a couple of hours - all suspects, all potentially dangerous to their loved ones - and vetted, housed and comforted them. Yesterday, I went for a drive in my little town and saw teens playing basketball and people hanging around parking lots in groups. Who’s spreading this? Deleted Account
Just went through the first 20 pages of this thread, and am amused at how some of the biggest proponents of " keep them downstate, we don't want it up here" have changed their tunes.... "Is this viruses as serious as reported? IMHO, no." "I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. If anyone has a Lysol wipes container, read the back. It says it kills "Human Corona Virus". In other words, this disease is nothing new." "I don't trust the fact that the liberal media is not over-hyping this as much as possible to bury the markets, discredit the Trump administration and make us all Socialists!! If I die from Coronavirus I will retract this opinion!!" "This corona virus has got to be the biggest global paranoia I've ever seen in my 56 years of life. I just can't believe how the world is freaking out over this. If 20%, 30% or 40% of those who contract it were dying maybe I'd be worried, but the percentage is nowhere close to those numbers. I couldn't imagine if something truly serious hit this planet. It would without a doubt be doomsday for humanity. The panic alone would wipe out half the earths inhabitants. Unbelievable!" "This whole thing is ridiculous. 18,000 people have died this year in the USA of the regular flu! The rate of death is off as well. Once the numbers including countries with high levels of health care, and not places that use ground up rhinoceros horn and parrot balls to cure shit, gets figured in the rate will be similar or lower than the regular flu. If you notice anyplace it is hot right now there are zero to minimal cases so it also looks like the regular flues this will diminish once the weather gets warmer." "Paranoia, that's all it really is and the media sensationalizing it all since it is generating BIG revenue for them. It's truly unbelievable where this has been taken." I'm sure there's more, but 20 pages was enough entertainment for me 1
