This was a hunt that was a couple years in planning. My buddy and I been wanting to Hunt the 40 mile herd in the Yukon Charley River preserve, we had both hunted Caribou several times before and for us it was important for this hunt to take place in that location. We try several times to secure a spot with our preferred transporter( I am sure you all can guess who) to fly us into the area however we could not get it booked. We ended up going with the only other option which happened to be excellent albeit very expensive. 
Fast forward to 2020 and Covid was reeking havoc on our plans, with that said we jumped through the hoops and made it happen. We had and wonderful time and the hunt was everything we wanted and more. 

I killed my bull at 61 yards after getting pinned down when the group of bulls I stalked decided to bed down for two hours. The rest of the trip I played spotter for Russel and was happy to see him kill a great bull. I had blast hunting with him, and we planned another hunt together already. I am already looking for repeat as I want to get back in and do this hunt again. 
I will forgo the long story this time and post some pictures of the hunt.

NICE!  My brother lives in Fairbanks and he just spent a week on a sheep hunt around Glacier Mountain.  Looks like you had better weather; they got rained on most of the week.
Yea sheep country to my south was getting a deluge. Everyone was hunkered down

None, we seen very little sign as well.

That's a GOOD thing, especially when you have meat hanging....I did not see any firearms  in the pictures....Did you  take something for the unthinkable( but very possible)  bear defense, or did  you trust pepper spray or  pure faith  ?.

When I was up there I saw quite a few grizzlies, but never had any issue with them...However I never went anywhere without a rifle or shotgun within reach...If I had been bowhunting I would have been packing a heavy caliber handgun or a compact shotgun...We always had a tent gun ( shotgun loaded with 00 Buck)  in the tent, and usually a couple of us had a  handgun under our pillow..

That's a GOOD thing, especially when you have meat hanging....I did not see any firearms  in the pictures....Did you  take something for the unthinkable( but very possible)  bear defense, or did  you trust pepper spray or  pure faith  ?.
When I was up there I saw quite a few grizzlies, but never had any issue with them...However I never went anywhere without a rifle or shotgun within reach...If I had been bowhunting I would have been packing a heavy caliber handgun or a compact shotgun...We always had a tent gun ( shotgun loaded with 00 Buck)  in the tent, and usually a couple of us had a  handgun under our pillow..


We didnt carry any firearms, and both had bear spray. My encounters with bears in Alaska have been very different then the lower 48. Down here I take my 10mm, up there i been taking spray the last few trips.

Yes, I must admit that all of the Alaskan grizzlies I encountered ran like hell when they saw or winded me...They tend to have respect for humans because they are hunted up there...

Still, I'd hate to depend on a spray can to save my ass in an emergency if I could have a firearm instead...

Did you drive up  ?  taking firearms through semi socialist Canada further complicates things..If I had to drive up, I might consider bear spray myself, although I'd probably ship firearms to my air transporter  or whomever I was hunting with..

No the boarder is closed, so we flew. My buddy spends most of every summer up there fishing, cant transport a handgun through canada so he mails it up. I have just checked mine on my flights, never had any issue at all.

Yeah, how could I forget the border was closed...Screwed up my annual gobbler trip to Ontario this spring..

I never had any problems flying with handguns, either, to Alaska, or the western US....
