Knife edc

I’ve carried Gerber Obsidians for years (durable knife + bottle opener) and I was bummed when I lost my serrated version a few months ago.  They don’t make them anymore, but eBay came through for me this week and I just got my barely used replacement for $20.  I don’t know who “DHW” is... but I’ll appreciate the knife more than he did! (The bottom pic is the new one)

Gene Wiseman Model B I believe.   I’ve had it about 10 years or so, happily I haven’t misplaced it.  
 

I came very close to owning this several times over the weekend but Lawd was too diligent

There is much to be said with carrying a multi tool , its certainly more versatile. I have two I carry often an old Gerber , with a real file and full sized pliers. My Leatherman Wingman is sweet, the one hand opening blade is a game changer , no unfolding and looking for a blade then refolding to use .

I rarely carry a folder anymore. When I do it's a Rat 1. I prefer a fixed blade and my multi tool for EDC, and have for over a year and a half now.

It was mainly one of my Gerber Prodigy's for about a year. Now, it's a knife I built myself from a blank.

Let’s see the homemade knife. I was looking at pathfinder blanks,but ordered a kephart completed with curly maple scales.

I started making them last December. I've actually sold about a dozen. Kephart, Woodlaw, and Bushlore styles from Condor in 1075 HCS. Prices on materials have went up like everything else, so micarta and G10 have almost doubled. I stabilize my own red oak and use either brass, stainless steel, or G10 pins. If I use liners it's always G10.

Here's a few I've made, the bottom is my EDC.

Benchmade Osborne 940 is my EDC now. I originally bought it for a good folding hunting knife. For that use it's now the backup to a Benchmade Altitude in hunter orange. Stud is missing because I've left it off for ease of stropping to keep the blade shaving sharp and sometimes hair whittling sharp... whatever is the best I can get it that day on 2 micron paste loaded leather strop.

Picked up another Swiss Army knife… I wanted one that was a little smaller than my “camper” but still has the weekend essentials.  The “waiter” is a great little knife that has bottle opener and corkscrew.

I’ve given that as a gift a few times , as a starter knife to non knife folks .

Me too… They are great gifts.  Each of my brother in laws got a different color Spartan for Christmas.  It’s a good one, like the camper but without a saw.

It looks like my poor  little $ 1.00 Imperial EDC sustained some damage in Friday nights axe throwing event.

I didn’t notice the damage until I reached for it in the dark this morning and could feel that there was a piece missing.

We spent a few minutes looking for the piece I broke off my EDC, but no luck finding it.   Having the piece missing seems to make a little better for throwing, with a higher percentage of throws now striking blade first.   Maybe the weight imbalance helps if spiral like a football.

Nice knife. I actually looked at something similar some time ago from SOG. I ended up with the Seal Pup Elite in AUS 8, and now I never use it.

I found this in a toolbox that belonged to my wife's grandfather. Its odd feeling, the wooden handle has no weight to it

Opinels are cool knives, very inexpensive but great quality. You won’t find any thing that’s much more simple and utilitarian in a folder. You can buy them in all different sizes, from keychain to very large. Below is my #12. I saw a #13 at an auction recently that was even bigger. Yours looks like it’s maybe a #6, which is a great size for pocket carry. The lock on them is primitive, but pretty much infallible.
