Robby
...........but, but, but, sanctions!!! Yeah right, the Biden's still have filthy lucre to reap, so the sanctions don't cover Rusky oil. What an effing joke. Except those brave souls in the Ukraine aren't laughing. Go Afghan on those putin puppets my brothers and sisters! Did Chef or VH hijack your account ? In the end, Putin will do what he wants and doesn't give one robho what the west says. I’m done conversing but do realize I literally posted data from the EIA showing we IMPORTED BILLIONS OF $ OF RUSSIAN OIL IN TRUMP’s tenure. Didn’t want you to miss that part. Chef
This is just Russian imports alone into the US. Does that make you feel like you’re energy independent? I mean, Trumps years were trending down, but by no means the lowest since the turn of the century.Looks like the downward trend started during Obama continued through Trump and the up started before he left office? Northcountryman
A Quote from Forbes magazine: Are We Energy Independent? The Energy Information Administration (EIA) tabulated U.S. energy consumption in 2019 and 2020, and determined that for both full years, counting all energy sources, we were energy independent. Even though U.S. energy production declined by 5% in 2020, energy consumption also declined by 3% as the pandemic impacted the economy. So, our energy independence was shrinking as the pandemic unfolded.

The cook and other idiots would rather vote for 5 Dollar gas and everything else in line more expensive along with the most unsafe America we have have in decades and a guy that made his family rich off of Americans and politics while getting absolutely nothing done for this country. And those idiots like to think their Americans. Only a complete idiot would vote anything left for any reason. Let alone one just because the guy makes themselves look weak.

knehrke
Ouch, this is starting to take a turn. I appreciate that at one point late in 2018, we tipped the balance from being a net oil importer to net exporter. So, at that point in time, we were "energy independent". But up until that point, we were importing 3 million barrels a day, net, and at that point, we were exporting 220,000 barrels a day...according to the numbers in the article. That's razor-thin. And it didn't last, unfortunately. In other words, it was a very transient independent. Depending how granular you want to be, we can be independent several times a day, until the next shipment of Russian oil arrives lol. I appreciate that folks want us to stand on our own. I do, too. But arguing the semantics of independence isn't going to win anybody points. I feel like this is one of those things where five minutes and a beer would have everybody on the same page. Maybe , but I don’t think it lasted due to the pandemic and the change In leadership . Saw a couple sources now that both said accdg to their metric of analysis , we were under Trump but idk . You know , the thing is is that BOTH sides will cherry pick stats to advance a narrative , which is frustrating- I’ve seen that for years . Best thing you can do is look around you and , take in as much info as possible from a myriad of different sources to try to make a assessment as to what the hell is goin on. For me , it’s quite simple : under Trump , economy was good , gas was cheap ; u see Biden, economy sucks , gas prices are high and are rising ever further . NOONE can deny this - therefore , things were much better under Trump than Biden .

ApexerER
One thing i will say that I wasn't expecting. This isn't looking good for Putin. I thought he would roll through Ukraine the way we rolled to Bagdad. I am happily shocked at his lack of progress.....

I was listening to a general yesterday, and he said that most of what is in the 3 mile convoy are resupply trucks, fuel, food, etc. The tanks and stuff are more than likely escort. He was explaining that the fact that they are that behind on supplies shows that they weren't ready for the resistance they've been dealing with. left field
Take a look at that twitter thread I posted earlier. The guy makes a convincing argument (as near as I can tell) that Putin and the Russian forces are highly overrated and that the Ukrainians learned their lesson from Crimea.

I read this morning that Russia is claiming that they have control of the airspace, but as much as they have lied throughout, it's likely not true. I think the defense weapons the Ukrainians are getting sent are really putting a hurt on the Russians.
