I feel that it's more of an education to people new to bowhunting. If you knew no better and saw the shot in the other thread and all you heard were "good job" "attaboy" , you may assume that it's a shot worth attempting yourself, which it isn't. This thread makes that point apparent, and maybe it will make a new hunter think twice about trying it. I seriously doubt it's going to affect anyones desire to post or participate, unless what they were going to post was "hey look at this hilarious shot I made at this deers eye/face/neck/testicles etc" and if it does prevent them posting such a thing, then obviously this post has helped them learn that such shots are not considered ethical and are frowned upon by others.3 points

You're going to bring up the UN Arms treaty again? The one that has NOTHING AT ALL to do with selling guns inside the US? Really? I really shouldn't even re-post this since obviously you want to believe whatever you want to believe and silly things like facts are to be ignored, but I'll try one last time: 1) Congress has to ratify all treaties. It would need two-thirds of the Sentate to vote to pass it. Good luck there. 2) The content of the treaty hasn't even been finalized. The first draft was written in July, but the treaty was suspended indefinitely when the Obama administration (as well as some other countries) declined to support it. 3) The Arms Trade Treaty has nothing to do with the restricting of legal sale or ownership of guns within the US. The focus of the UN Arms Trade Treaty is to combat illegal international trade of arms through trade regulation. The current draft states that the treaty specifically "reaffirms the sovereign right and responsibility of any State to regulate and control transfers of conventional arms that take place exclusively within its territory". 4) The POTUS can not ban weapons through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. Reid vs Covert establishes the Constitution supersedes international treaties, even those ratified by the Senate. Please take the time to read points 3 and 4 again, then make a bookmark so that the next time you feel the urge to post something completely incorrect about this treaty, you can reference here and not be so wrong.2 points

So glad there is such a united concern with the people and this country. Im sure glad you find it humourous enough to find the need to start a thread that effects ALL americans in such a manner. Apparently you have zero concern of how deeply this disturbs alot of us with him being relelected. Its obvious there is nothing to turn back time to fix the mistakes but one thing that does need to be addressed is uniting the people in this country. And this is a sure sad way to start off on a new page with a thread that tweeks the short hairs on so many people. I have zero faith in this president as his track record speaks for himself, but the least we can do is try to be optomistic, hope an pray for the change we were promised in 2008 and stand together as citizens of this country and stop the rediculous seperation, selfish bashing of others opinions, racism, for gods sake we are not a bunch of crazed cavemen. We are AMERICANS how about we all start acting like one and treat each other with respect we all deserve, move forward, work together, and show the world and most of all our children we can all prevail together. Its time to move on, grow up a little and respect each other. I know this election has weighed heavily on everyone myself included. I have many concerns and many fears moving forward for the next 4 years but damn it I refuse to let this eat at my everyday thoughts from here on out. It has greatly effected my attitude, my finances, the fear for my kids future, everything. There are many many people that feel the same way. Lets stick together from here on out shall we and stop the BS?2 points

I was complainning on here yesterday about the lack of deer movement in my area. Well today I had 9 different bucks around my stand. I may have seen one doe being chased unless it was a button buck that walked by being pushed out, but the rest were all bucks. One big 7 point I passed on and one good shooter that I could not get to close less than 50 yards. I will have to trudge my doe decoy in later and see if he shows up again. Finally the rut is starting and/or the bigger bucks are moving during shooting hours.1 point

I just have a problem with admitting that the volumes and volumes of gun laws that are on the books are not working, so the answer to that is to add volumes and volumes of equally ineffective laws. In fact isn't that just another version of doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?1 point
-
No. What I am saying is that some of the existing laws are pretty much worthless. There is very little difference to what is legal and what is illegal. Every gun that leaves a manufacturers plant enters the market LEGALLY, which means the first purchaser of it needs to undergo a background check. After that, it's pretty much a free for all who can buy them. That's how they get into the wrong hands. It is WE the legal purchasers who in one way or another put them into their hands. It's not like Ruger, S&W or any of the gun manufacturers are selling them to hoodlums from the back of their manufacturing plants. Something very WRONG with our current system. If we gun owners don't stand up and support some BETTER way of regulating who can and cannot buy guns, we definitely will lose our rights to own them. Nothing is of course is foolproof, but there just has to be a better way out there.1 point

Not exactly true. Some of the recent shootings that made headlines like the movie theatre shooter, the Gabby Giffords shooter, and the Virginia Tech shooter ALL bought guns legally. Buying long guns LEGALLY in this country is pretty much as easy as buying candy. One can legally buy a long gun in a private sale without a background check, so honestly what's the difference between legal and illegal? Not a hell of a a lot.1 point
-
Dont we already have laws in place that are supposed to prevent criminals from legally attaining guns? BTW, criminals dont typically follow the law, so in reality, the ONLY people any gun laws really effect are those that abide by it.1 point
-
I do not think the law abiding gun owners who have guns/handguns used for target and hunting and self protection have anything to worry about. The laws that the gov't may try to implement will be laws to make it more difficult for thugs and criminals to get there hands on them. I would tend to think that loose laws of the past decades are primarily the reason we have hand guns floating around and being used by criminals. There will never be a perfect system that prevents wacko's from obtaining guns to go on terror killings but if better background checks were necessary to help prevent this than I am all in favor of this.1 point

I can't predict if gun rights will ever be taken away, I have heard even a prominent republican Senator say that something has to be done (referring to guns). I don't want to misquote him, so I'll refrain from naming him, or paraphrasing what I "remember". So we'll see. Besides.. Talk is cheap, as they say.. Politicians say lot of things. I do know this: There are less "federal" gun laws since President Obama took office The NRA supports Republicans, which is understandable, but they create paranoia for their own goals and always have. The NRA does stand up for gun owners, but some of their statements are predictions don't hold water, and make them less credible. When told about the less federal regulations the NRA could not give an answer so they decided to predict that he'd pass more gun legislation in his next term. Why not just thank him. If I was an elected official I'd be less likely to support your cause if every time I helped your cause , you criticized me. ( Besides FOX News were sure that the President would NOT be reelected so since everyone seems to believe every thing that they report why did anyone even worry) I'm more concerned over State, City, County, and, or local municipalities than the Federal Government. Gun owners are so distracted by the fear of this "BIG Government Thing" that they overlook all of the local restrictions. (an example).. When the Mayor of NYC sent NYPD to Arizona to check on a gun show, I could not believe that no one spoke out about it. It was a political move to push for Federal Control. Why was NYPD, a New York City Agency in Arizona. I've heard for about 50 years how the Government will take away my guns..I still got them, in fact I got more, I am not worried, and I will not let the naysayers rent space in my head. I NEVER tell people how to think , and never will, so if you wish to worry, then that's your decision.1 point

I would say the one on the right scores low 90's and the one on the left may get close to 100". My deer net scores 85 5/8. 12 5/8 inside, right main beam of 15 7/8, 2 2/8 G1, 5 5/8 G2, 4 6/8 G3. Left side is almost identical. Pretty nice 1 1/2 year old. Not the. Biggest on my wall, but a very nice buck. I would be proud of the 2 you have in the banana box...definite trophies.1 point

hide your guns, hide your social security, hide your old age medicare. the Gov we hire and elect is in take mode, they have nothing left to give!!! either way you vote something will be taken.... one thing for sure is that when Clinton passed the assault weapons ban back in 94 and Myth Romney did it in his own state of Mass as Gov it was very unpopular and cost them both dearly afterwards. Obama cant knock on your door with the national gaurd and ask for your guns, It would have to pass the house and senate and im not sure alot of those jokers have the stomach to take that on with gun ownership(especially high cap mag guns) are at an all time high... Most assault type weapons which are the guns of choice by Americas gunowners today are being bought by males between the ages of 18-30 years old. they have no interest in hunting, they buy them because they use the very same guns on the video games they play, and the sales for them have been at an astronomical pace for over a decade.. just remember lads, the fight goes on, if Romney and Lyin Ryan were in the whitehouse you would be fighting to keep alot of other things..i still cant beleive how people can still stand so steadfast behind republicans or democrats after all they have done to screw this country?1 point

Well, I don't know about deer scoring. I've never scored a deer in my life or even have a desire to do so. But in terms of the comments on this thread about that shot, it really doesn't bother me a bit that people are coming down hard on this kind of shot selection. Perhaps it was some innocent deal where the deer moved into that kind of hit. His comments don't seem to indicate that but I suppose anything is possible. But the good news is that through this thread, the point is being made in very strong terms that head-on shots are low percentage shots that normally turn out very badly. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who don't know that. So, if that's the only good to come from this thread, then it was well worth posting. When the guy that got this deer gets back, he can describe where he was trying to shoot him. His comment of, "thanks even know it was a bad shot but dead is dead", seems to indicate that the shot selection was exactly the way it looks. But anyway, this very educational thread maybe has changed a few minds about shooting deer that are face-on or severely quartering at you. I hope so. As far as Myke is concerned, he will have the chance to set the record straight if the assumptions are incorrect.1 point

Went out yesterday afternoon for only the 3rd time this year. Didn't go out the week before because of the high winds from Sandy. I knew it was going to be a good day, because as I was going to my stand in the winter wheat field there were seven turkeys and a deer. I was in my stand about 10 min when I saw one of the turkeys. They always say that where there are turkey the deer will be around. Sure enough about 5min after the turkey goes by here comes a doe about 40 yds out. About 5 min later a nice 6 point comes in from behind me looking for that doe. He walks right under my stand but instead of turning to his right (which would have put him broadside) he walks straight away, so not a good shot. He goes after her (but she is not interested). About 2 min later there is a little 4 point right undert my stand. He is to small so just let him pass. The six pointer is chasing the doe around about 80 yards to my right. Another doe and her button buck fawn show up about 30 yards out. Not more than 5min later a really nice buck comes from behind me, I turn and draw and as he walks behind me I get so nervous that my arrow falls off the rest. I guess we are never to old for buck fever! He goes right toward the doe but she runs off. The button buck stays right under me just eating away. I keep thinking that moma is going to come back for him. Sure enough about 10 min later the doe is back and the buck right behind her. She comes right toward me and looks up. She can't figure out what I am so after 2 or 3 minutes goes broad side about 20 yards. The buck is right behind her, I draw and let it fly. I hit him high in the sholder (the arrow was still in him). I hear him about 30 yards from my stand thrashing around and grunting. I know it was not my best shot so I stay in my stand till well after dark. Then I sneak out and am thinking I should wait till morning. Well hind sight being 20/20 I should have gone after him last night. I found him this morning right where I thought he would be, I think he was dead within 20 min of my hitting him. The good news is I found him the bad news is the coyotes got to his hind quarters. I think i can slavage some of it but should have gone in last night. I guess we live in learn, I was so afraid of pushing him that I waited to long. Still a very nice deer. My nicest so far with a bow.1 point

4" down is a good possibility of above the spine thru the backstrap. Will bleed a lot for a bit and quit as it is a muscle hit. If it was lower and is liver, it will kill but the time varies from less then an hour to 4 or more.1 point

I think you have to be there for the hunt not the kill. I spend alot of tome in the stand and it is tough at times. Early in the year I don't do all day sits 3-4 hours get down and scout and then back up if you can. Hunt to see nothing just the peace and quite. When you least expect it the deer will show and then you have to outwit them and that is the fun of hunting.1 point

So I'm in the woods all morning freezing my backside off, and not a deer in sight. I get down and drive to my office to get some required work done, and theres 5 deer in the field next to my building, problem is that the guy I lease the space from won't let me hunt there for fear of po'ing the other tenants. Oh well, at least they're out and moving... back to my stand shortly.1 point

I love time away from work and technology and also the taste of venison, I hunt mostly because I love the time outdoors, secondly for meat, I will not go hungry if I don't make a harvest. Rack is a bonus not the goal. Would I like to take the 10pt that I've been seeing, sure... but then I'll have to pay to get him mounted and his meat will not be as tasty as a doe... I'd really rather have a nice fat doe in front of me today, but again... would not pass the buck should he appear. If neither shows... hey at least I'm in the peace and quiet and not dealing with peoples problems at work.1 point

My brother has a pair of the Vortex Viper binos and they are super nice and they offer the best warranty around. If they break for whatever reason (dropped down a cliff, ran over with your truck, etc.) they will replace them. However, they are not made in the USA. Last I checked the lower end ones were made in China, mid-grade in the Philippines and the higher end ones were made in Japan.1 point
