Hope for Cow corn. If it is sweet corn it will be picked before season opens and nothing will be left. As Grow said, many of the modern harvesting techniques for cow corn leave very little compared to years ago. The equipment just seems more efficient. Now for the good news. If it is sweet corn and it is picked they may try to get in another crop. Happened on property I hunted last year. THey planted rye and it made a great deer magnet once the other crops were gone and especially when the first snows hit. They were out there pawing every night.2 points

They are bunch of scum bags. And you are absolutely right Machinist. Whites are the minority now. It was easy in he Corps. All you had were Marines. They were just different shades of green.2 points

Thought I'd start a little photo journal of the bucks I see pre-season while roaming the woods or sitting a stand in the evenings. Photographic exellence isn't top priority here, so excuse the poor quality.... most of these will be loooooong shots from an observation stand, or poor light distant encounters in the timber. I've already got trail cam vids of these first two bucks, but there's always something special about seeing them live on the hoof for the first time. This first guy is a little 3pt. Next up is his bachelor buddy 6pt. And lastly, my first decent buck of the year from tonight at the corn field. I didn't get a real good look at him, but I think I may have pics of him from last year as well if that left antler is as palmated as it looks here. I'll know more next time I see him. I'll try to get a trail cam hung in this area soon.1 point

I honestly think it is impossible to walk through the Hartford Cabelas and not buy a single item. I always feel like a kid in a candy store. I can't even walk through Dick's and not buy something hunting and/or fishing related.1 point

in my county, the Police are assigned election officials to drive around on election day to the different polling places to make sure things are kept on the up and up.........most Officers aren't really up on the election laws.1 point

Got Grow notice, the tassels will tell it. Generally if there is cow corn next door within eye shot, it's cow corn there too. Mixing cow corn with sweet corn often results in cruddy sweet corn for humans to eat.1 point

Field corn needs to be dried in the field lower moisture content varies on whether chopped for silage or dried for feed grain...and sweet corn obviously needs to be picked at the height tenderness and sweetness.... We use to be able to tell from the color of the silk and height of the stalks ...but there are so many hybrids now I don't know if that would work any more....pretty much all sweet corn is harvested before Oct 11 point

No action around the cams last night. I did see 3 bucks on the far side of the field last night, but it was too dark and far for the Nikon to catch any rack detail. They looked like young ones. Had a couple does work across the field also, but for some reason, things are still pretty slow. While checking the cams tonight, I saw this guy out beside the corn field, so I'm hoping he stops by one of the trail cams for a better look. I set the new Moultrie at one of my favorite summer time water holes at the field corner tonight. Lots of sweet sign there, so fingers crossed for tomorrow! Man are the skeeters thick lately!1 point

I have to ask where does all the deer damage happen. My property is in 8P. One of the biggest AG districts around. The farmer I lease to doesn't come around crying to me the deer are killing his living. He does tell us he has permits but I wouldn't use them. As far as I'm concerned I see more damage done by a sow with 3 cubs then a by the deer. I guess when the farmer outright owns the land he would rather kill anything that may come between him and a profit? Totally legal but under their (farmer) discretion.1 point

One of my favorite things to do is shoot my bow. I haven't minded the heat. If it gets to bad, I can hop in the pool.1 point

Correct. I bought both my nephews a lifetime license for their first birthday. They are 16 and 13 years old now with the youngest taking his hunter safety class this summer.1 point

The problem is if the KKK put a hit out on someone that organization would get dismantled in a split second. The way I look at it now(I am not a racist by the way) is that a white man is the minority now.The only reason that the Martin/Zimmerman case got so much attention is because it was a white guy that shot a black guy.If it was a black man that shot a white guy you wouldn't have heard about it even on the local news1 point

Yea, I've also dropped the ball on the same issue. I really need to get out and shoot a pile of arrows because I had a new string/cables put on back in January. If you don't recall, I'll refresh your memory. I dropped the bow and loaded quiver out of the stand on the last day of the regular archery season..........she bounced up about 3' before she landed in a heap. I figured a new set of strings/cables was due anyways..........grin1 point

That cover makes me sick. It encourages others who seek martyrdom and notoriety. I never have or will buy their Rolling Rag, but I hope others not only boycott this issue, but all future issues. Hopefully this is the nail in their coffin.1 point

Wow this kid is a real winner huh guys?!! I'm just there to "destroy " deer so I put my "shooting" hat on? ... What choice of words... I get it , it's a nuisance tag , but hunting is still hunting no matter how u look at it... Just cause its out of season and the farmer wants them takin care of , well, TAKE CARE of them n give them the proper respect as if u shot it during bow season ... And not looking for attention , I call bs on that , pretty blatantly obvious by how u handle yourself in your replies ... In my opinion and I'm pretty sure there's quite a few others that agree, we take pride in deer hunting and give it it's due respect when we do harvest , but we also have a love for the animals when we're not hunting them and would never tolerate someone around me talkin foolishly like that , tossing really any amount of meat is a disgrace, make sure it's got a home before u pull that trigger... Save the ribs ,gimme a break ... "Destroy" deer , NO ! Harvest ... "Shooting hat " NO! Think u just did yourself in and won't get much love from future posts ...1 point

The POS shawhu is just posting this stuff to get a rise. Anybody that would post up this information and brag about it is a heartless little attention whore that has NOTHING better to post about and is just here to cause trouble. Things have been really slow lately from my evening observation stand, but I suspect that change is about to happen! The corn shot up about 4ft overnight, and the tall grass in the green fields beside it was finally cut earlier this week. I was beginning to wonder what the heck the hold-up was, but the wet weather seems to have set the farmer back a few weeks. Normally I can watch 20 different bucks a night with fireworks on the horizon by the 4'th of July! Slowly but surely, they are starting to show themselves the way they're supposed to this time of year... I just wish they would come a little closer. Things should start picking up some now....but I had to add a few TC pics from the area to hold me over.1 point
