  1. Hey guys I am going in for an ultra sound today to find out the sex of my baby! I cant wait! Good god I hope its a boy lol. Is that wrong? I just really want to take em hunting and not have to worry about guys coming around the house when they turn 16 if its a girl. Then again I guess I can still take a girl hunting I just don't know how I would feel about shooting a deer in front of a little girl. Anyone take there little girls hunting? So pumped ill keep you posted with the updates!

  3. Deer were out pretty early feeding. Some turkeys decided they wanted a birds eye view of me before they take their bath. Thunder shower during the turkey pics.

  4. Good luck with the results Aaron, but don't be surprised if the Dr. slathers your hairy gut up with Vaseline and tells you you're having a bouncing baby beer belly. I know you're excited, but it's probably best to let momma have the ultra sound done, lol. Got any names picked out yet?

  7. I've had good success without a dog simply by walking and kicking them up on my own. I also tend to hunt off of other hunter with dogs. If I see a couple of hunter with dogs at a particular field I would hunt an adjacent field with the belief that the dogs would push some of the birds into this adjacent field.

  8. I haven't seen mossy oak or real tree worn too much as a fashion statement. I do see tiger stripe and army though. I have a legendary whitetail bathing suit. It's awesome. Almost all my hats are camo and I wear them all the time. I have a few nice fleece jackets that have been retired from hunting that I wear occasionally. Or I might stop and run some errands on my way back from scouting/prep in camo jeans and shirt. I have a fair share of deer related shirts that aren't camo that I wear. I feel people judge too much. Catch me on a weekday in khakis in a nice polo driving my nice car and you might think I couldn't fix a clogged drain or have ever spent a minute in the woods. Catch me on the weekend unshaven in ripped work jeans and a dirty shirt in my beat up pickup and you probably assume I'm white trash and chances are I earn more than you. At the end of the day, don't ever judge others based off appearance. Edit. Forgot about my camo iPhone otterbox. It's a great way to connect with other hunters. They spot it and the convo goes from there.

  12. On a whim I decided to get a duck stamp this year, never done it before. A fellow stopped and got permission from my father to hunt on his place and they were good enough to let me join them. I haven't had that much fun in years! My wife told me to go and try it to get it out of my system. Fooled her though because now I need some decoys, a layout blind, new shotgun and a dog. I don't even like dogs...

  15. Had my buck from last year dipped in Predator Fall Gray. Came out nice. Back buck is my FIL's first in 40 years. Not a huge fan of the basic euro, but think the dips add a bit of character to it. I was wearing that camo when I shot it anyway. Ignore the attack dog in the background.

  17. Merino wool is the tops in my mind, but I haven't sprung for it yet. I have had good luck with X-Scent branded base layers at cost effective price points.Wick moisture to the mid layer, which is usually a wool or fleece layer. Hard to find, but they are an Onyx/Artic Shield brand.

  18. Under Armor 2.0 base layers are the only thing ill walk into the woods with in subzero temps, very pricey but worth every penny when trying to stay warm in a stand all day, i would highly recommend these to everyone

  19. Had to buy extended boxer briefs to wear under my underarmor because it pulled the hair out of the cack of my legs. I go UA, then wool if it's real cold then scent blocker bases slayers. Then camo jean pants. Then outer layer.

  20. How much harder would it hit out of a 24" barrel compared to a 22"?? The animal would never know the difference. The slightly flatter trajectory you'd get from the few extra feet per second from a longer barrel won't make much of a difference either for what this cartridge was intended. The beauty of the .338 Federal is that you can have a hard hitting cartridge in a compact, easy to carry rifle. I think a 22" barrel would give one no disadvantages whatsoever.

  21. I don't own one, but I love the .338 Federal. It's a very good round for all North American big game short of a Grizzly. I would want the barrel on my rifle to be at least 22" though, preferably 24" if I could get it. With a short action, the OAL of the rifle would still be about the same as a standard 30-06, while squeezing out every available fps that round can give me. That means flatter shooting and harder hitting, which is what the .338 Federal is all about.

  22. That is what many hunters believe, but its more like many of the birds initially released are disorientated and easier to find. Its not totally false though, because besides a heavy initial harvest two other things happen- heavy predation and some of the birds will move several miles a way. But no, its not a waste of time or anything like that, and with less pheasant hunters out there and a more difficult quarry its better IMO. Without a dog it is usually even more difficult, but some dog less hunters can have exceptional days when things quiet down and the birds, at least the roosters, cackle and can be tracked by sound.

  26. yea that's a good point they would have to come out with some kind of a refer stick breathalyzer or something like that I would imagine. Its really supposed to be meant for relaxation not for work. I would much rather see an opioid breathalyzer way before a pot one. I think the heroin epidemic in this country is far more terrifying then any reefer sticks

  31. The farmers that work the land i hunt always leave quite a bit on the ground. The deer will eat the dropped beans, but that usually doesnt happen much until the corn is down. They pretty much abandon the bean fields until late season, and even then, its sporadic.

  32. When it's really cold out, I still use a pair of wool pants that my grandfather bought in the 1940's. Ugly as sin and heavy as a wheelbarrow full-o-bricks when wet, but they work.

  34. I try to buy good stuff, but never just before or during hunting season. Wait till around Jan. or Feb. and most stuff will be 50%+ off. You might have to look hard for something in sizes other that XXXXXL or XXXXXsm., but deals are out there. "Ripe old age of 31?" I have boots that are almost as old than you !! LOL!

  37. Now they have things like the quiet Kat. When we used bikes we did walk them up hills. But getting into the spot that was in general a lower elevation was way faster. Heck my brother left a camp chair and some other gear at the far end. I parked on private land and hiked in to get it to be closer and it still took all afternoon. If you're not going up hill much from point a to b, bikes save a lot of energy.

  38. People worry about too much silly stuff. I am in public from time to time with camo jeans...nearly all of it is hunting related...running to the hardware store to pick up ratchet straps, or similar. I'm not wearing camo because it's camo, my prep jeans are just camo because they were $5 at Walmart and durable as all get out. People tell themselves stories too easily. The jamoke wearing the camo shirt or hat may be a stone cold killer and you might learn a thing or two. Or, he could very well be a wannabe hunter who has all the gear but hasn't hunted in ages or not at all. Then again, life's too short.

  40. Lol .... I have seen some lot lines that the landowner cannot even follow without a blazed survey being performed. When you get a half mile or mile off the road and over a hill, I defy anyone to know exactly where the line is without extensive surveying equipment or a properly marked boundary. Also, if your land is not marked, good luck proving that someone was over the line. It pretty much comes down to your guess against his. And as far as I am concerned, the better marked, the more substantial your case. So as far as visual pollution from too many signs, I say.....It looks fine to me and it serves a purpose, and those that don't like it can stay the hell away from my property if they are that offended by it. I purposely paid extra to have the surveyors blaze the property line, and then I posted the hell out of it with permanent metal signs and I do whatever I have to do to maintain that marked line. It's my property, I paid a lot of money for it. I continue to pay a lot of money for taxes on it, and I want to know exactly where it begins and where it ends. Back in the old days, farmers paid a lot of money and put in some gosh-awful hours to mark their property boundaries. And they didn't do that to keep trespassers off. They did it because they considered their property an important asset that needs definition. Posted signs can provide the same definition today to eliminate conflicts. The old saying that good fences make good neighbors applies to posted property also.

  44. I don't understand how this topic got so bad...it's pretty easy in my eyes you bought the land you want to keep people off it so post it and do it correctly otherwise even if you call the cops or Dec the charge will very likely be thrown out....want stiffer penalties first you have to do your responsibility and post your land and the majority of people will avoid it....sure some will still not care but there will always be that it's like the saying.....a key only stops a honest person....this is same thing is it not your responsibility to lock your house or car....it should be the criminals responsibility to not break the law....fact is if your land isn't posted and someone wanders on all you can do is ask them to leave over and over and over again till you legally and responsibly post your land...that's ny law just like the safe act and taxes and all the other crazy ass laws in ny

  45. I think how easy a property line is known can vary greatly with the type if property without having some type of line marking. Old farm land with hedgerows is one thing but for big woods hunting it could be very easy to wander over a line. IMO.
    1 point
  46. So if I understand correctly, you are willing to spend several thousand dollars to survey the lines and paint a tree but putting up a simple sign it too bothersome? I have to follow the law and know were your line is but you don't have to follow the law to post it?

  47. Is your 60 properly posted?
    1 point
  48. No this is relevant to me in many many situations as I hunt multiple tracts of state land and private land with improperly posted land around it and multiple times have ended up on unknown land. If properly posted I would have turned back around to avoid it...
